Thread: Time to take the cuffs of the probot
I really don't think there should be a certification level for droids... however they won't be nearly as powerful as a CH pet... where as CH pets should be certified and non-CH should not be able to get CH pets. That is just completely lame imo.

CH creatures do deserves certs... well, at least the way they did them, I like, with the call levels and stuff... because creature handling is actually a skill, and realistically, to be able to tame and control bigger and stronger and more aggressive creatures, you need to be more skilled in it.
As far as droid certs,I don't agree with it, because a droid can just be programmed and commanded. Realistically (and in the Star Wars universe when you see droids EVERYWHERE owned by virtually everyone) it just doesn't seem like a skill you'd need to do droid handling, heh.
Afterall, how would they implement it... would I, as a droid engineer, not be able to use the droids I myself created because I don't have the right combat skills (just an example)?
I don't agree with droid certs, but ch certs I do. Like I said, I really like the way they have the qualifications for creatures now (except I don't think non CH should be able to get them at all)
I too wonder how droid certs would work. You would think that it would be gained through the DE skill tree... but if that were the case, it would completly kill any market for any of the droids ... if then they have to be gained via combat, does it therefore mean only combat droids would need a cert? If that were the case, would a DE need to learn combat skills before they can use the droids they make ... in that sense, putting certs on droids sounds completly stupid and its quite clear why its going to take the devs time to figure this one out.
Personaly, I'd rather just put up with not being able to craft ubber droids and keep my market ... the fact is, no matter how many different classes of combat droids the devs are add or modify to this game they are never going to be greater than the ultimate CH/faction pets
If you place Droid Calling +x throughout the skill trees, then people will skill up to these skills only, just so they can get some uber combat droid (if they're too high up skill trees then we're limiting the number of customers again), so here's a simple idea.
Base the droid calling level on the number of skill points you've used.
Simple, a newbie wont have spent many skill points (90 max without doing any work) and those who have put time and effort into the game are rewarded with better droids. If we take the number of points spent and divide by five that gives us a range from 0-50, droids already have a CL as it stands, so this would be a simple solution to the problem, and anyone starting out will have a max CL of 3 to start with, so they can still get an MSE droid.
"90% of people that play SWG want an R2 unit and a protocol droid. Not because they do anything... just because they want to be Luke Skywalker with his trusted droid friends"
His trusted friends took a lot of punishments and abuse, but they managed to come back shiny and new at the end. at this time I'll settle for droids that don't die, or at least repairable.
I say up the damage on the Probots and increase the HAMs slightly until new Combat Specific droids come online. Let's face it, what ever we say we are not going to get any new droids for some time because it takes a lot of effort to craft the models and write the code and even then they won't add them till they figure a cert system for droids.

40% of people want a droid simply because they look cool
Thats a whole lot of people that potentialy want to buy a droid. Hell, I'm a DE andI still find myself browsing the bazaar regularly to see what droids are for sale... and guess what? There are praticaly never any.
------------------------------------------------------
No offense, but you must not have been a DE for long if you think that all of these types of droids are going to be selling on the bazaar. I made the mistake of doing this and learned that i was losing money by selling on the bazaar. the current limit on price is 3k, yet it takes about 6k in resources to make the droids you are talking about not being sold on the bazaar. now maybe i am wrong for trying to turn a little profot andkeep from satuarting the market, but i cant see myself selling an R2 unit with med mods and such on the bazaar for a mere 3k. Does that make sense to you? Just like most other professions, you are not going to see a good amount of items for sale on the bazaar because frankly, you are not getting any type of return if you do sell them on the bazaar. as for us DE, this poiunt comes really quick, as the minimum amount of resources we use to make a droid are on the MSE model, and frankly, how many people seriously wants these droids for any purpose other than their novelty and cute-factor.
The fact of the matter is that most of us advanced DE have no money making items to sell, because they are eitehr broken or nerfed. Surgical droids, broken. repair droids, broken. power droids, too expensive to make and not worth it when a battery or just storing and re-calling the droid does the same thing. Probots, nerfed. and since a advanced MSE droid can hold all of the same modules that any other droid can hold, what is the real point, other than novelty to have anything else? I have sold droids more times on the instance of ther novelty then their usefulness, and while everyone else may be happy with this, i am frankly upset with it. I want my product to mean something. When you buy a weapon from a weaponsmith, you get a compliment on hpow powerful it is, when you buy a house you get people that say "wow, nice house!". Where is our wow factor, our purpose of feeling good about our profession. when i made my first 3PO i had that happen once, then i realized that the droid didnt do anything.
I want my wow-factor!

Tweak the bot guys. Its pathetic in its current incarnation. It was stated before it has the stats of a newbie with his CDEF pistol, this is exactly what it is.
Chuut-Riit, the bazaar is only the first step. By selling a droid on the bazaar, for whatever price, people take note. It'sthe best way of letting people know you are a DE and are making droids for them to buy.
You clearly can't afford to continuously sell R2 units for 3k... but its affordable to sell R5's for that price IMO. The point is that it gets you customers ... if you have customers, you have a market. If you havea market, you have a profit. If you are making profit then your chosen profession obviously WORKS.
The "wow" factor is still in the game for droids. Just because you personaly don't find a protocol droid cool, doesn't mean there are many others that don't either. Have you seen the amount of people that have some exceptionaly strange pets? I've seen people running around with beetles and bunnies ... no real use since they'd die in seconds during combat, so why has that person paid for it or gone to the trouble of training it (aside from XP)?
