* Only Merchants can get the droid to actually "bark" ads. Others just get the little (i) over their droid.

* Droid spamming is kept to a reasonable interval, like 2 minutes (or affected by Merchant levels). Unlike players who can and do spam every 5 seconds.

* Droids near each other take turns barking. So, if there are 50 droids around, each one only barks every 50 intervals. This would encourage people to put their droids in places where there aren't too many.

* Droid spam message is kept very short, or based on Merchant skills. So a non-merchant's droid can only bark 40 characters, just enough for a shop name and waypoint.

* Droid barking requires battery power, so an unattended droid will only bark for X minutes before it reaches *Low Power*.

* Droid barking gets a very small radius, so only people who walk within 5 meters of the droid hear it's message. Maybe Merchant skills increase this radius.

Excellent ideas... mind if I cross post them into the Concept Series: Merchant Barker Droid thread?

Im not right now DE, i have been DE and i have been other crafting professions, i have allways thought it would be cool to have a droid advertising my shop, but ....

To be honest i have allways thought it would be cool just if i was the only one able to do it, how many droids you think will be set on patrol on coronet starport spamming his advertising???

50? 100? Be sure no one will ever be able to say a single word in spatial channel arround the starport, also try to imgaine the lag those 100 patrolling droids will create, and the totally unusefullness of those advertisings lost on the 20 spam lines per second.

Maybe im looking at it from a wrong point, but devs should allways think on our unlimited capabilities to exploit things, we will allways try to do things in the nastier way, not in the innocent and charmfull way devs seems to think about his imporovements.

My first idea is to let the droids bark only in a 'baloon'. Then people could turn baloonsd off to see, and be able to chat. And it may decrease the number of these things too.

To be able to read a long bark. maby if someone selects the droid it could /t them, its message.

I think the barker droids are a great idea as is. I think if they do spam spatial, on a timer between 5 to 15 minutes thats reasonable. It certainly is going to be less often than player spamming.

As for seeing 100's of droids in coronet. good. people always **edit** about Coronet, but you know what, thats where you go when you want to buy something. People spam, because spam works. Its that simple, and its nothing new to this game. Also the majority of lag in coronet is from the 50 foot pets, not people spamming, so i think its misplaced angst. A barker droid will help the entire playerbase. If you want to avoid the spamming, go to Kor Vella or Tyrene.

Also i dont like the idea of closing them off to vendors, because as described they can also be used by anyone who wants to run player events.

Easy solution that (should) work within the current game framework.
Have a little circle "i" floating above the head of the droid, maybe a different color than NPC's.
Customer approaches the droid, left clicks and gets a radial menu.
Radial menu has the option "What am I offering?"
Select that option and the droid begins it's little speech.
A perfect solution.

It will be a good solutions if the droid answer is in "tell" mode, no one else needs/wants to hear it. Good idea

Regarding what another guy said about walking arround in Guild or chat channels ... it blows up a lot of inmersion and makes you loose what ppl is saying at your back, maybe you are not interested, but i like to hear a "Hi Bestia" when im runing arround.

The way I read the message about this module was that the droid would have to be clicked on to start a private conversation with the character. In other words, no out loud barking or unwanted spamming. Set a droid up with a one liner, give it a name that says click meor something, then when a customer clicks the droid a tell is sent (same way that pets only talk to owners) to the customer with the one liner.

Kollos has the right idea here, folks. We need a centralized place to discuss each of the new line-item additions and changes in TH's post.

That way, we have ONE thread for the Devs to read and stay on top of. In Beta, these were "Focus Threads". They are outrageously useful, since all the best of our ideas and concerns are compiled in one place.

If I may...I'll like to request that we let this thread (and others) 'die' a bit....but just make sure to copy/paste your ideas and info into one 'semi-official' thread.

Kollos's new Concept Series: threads seems like a great place to do this.
