Thread: Debunking the Combat Droid Myth
I need to get verification/information on this. Please post what you can to help me get this elevated (which I'm already in the process of doing).

Now I'm having trouble getting my (CL 13) Probot out. Too high of a level for a non-CH but no option to alter the stats.
I would suspect (but do not know) that the CL10 (creature) + CL13 (Probot) use isn't working because the Probot is being shown as a CL13. But that's just a guess until I get it confirmed from the Devs' side.
Thanks in advance,

Go to TK's thread it has what you're looking for about this, my point was only that the lvl 10 droids are good for lower professions. Everything you said beyond this point has nothing to do with that I'm talking about, Mars.
>A lvl 10 anything is only going to help noob's and maybe the crafter only ppl.
Yes, exactly. And they are very good help for new people. You disagree with me, then go on to confirm most of what I just said.
>You poor guys have had to listen to the devs say they are giving you love in the next patch since launch, LAUNCH. I feel for you, you were promised so much and you got a nerf and not a single new model.
I had absolutely no misconception about what the devs were bringing out in this patch, aside from a few other bugs that have nothing to do with combat droids. Most DEs that stayed on top of information coming from the test server knew and read the publish notes carefully knew what was coming well ahead of time.
>Being positive in the past has got you what? THIS? This is what you have waited for?
As far as the current COMBAT DROIDS go, which is what my thread is about, yes. The combat droids were exactly as I anticipated them to be.
Pikemen are sending you guys pity, pikemen! If you're happy thats great it is just a game but I'll light a candle for all the exctinct DE's we will see over the next week.
What does Pikeman have to do with this thread? I just used Pikeman as an example of testing my R3.
And as for becoming 'extinct', dream on. Have you ever even bothered with DE, Mars? Sure our jobs are tough, but they aren't fruitless. A good DE, like ANY other craftsman, knows how to advertise, manage harvesters and crank out products that people can buy. I have yet to go broke as a DE.
But I will also say this again.... if I sold 20 combat droids in less than 2 hours yesterday, and 15 in about an hour today, that is reassurance enough to me that not everyone shares your opinion about the combat droids, and what they are capable of.
I was an MDE for over 5 months before I came to my senses. How many noobs can pay for a combat droid? ZERO How many can pay for a BE pet? MOST. They nerfed you guys plain and simple. I wanted a new toy and I got it, a bantha.

Uh Chummer your little R3 could be a CL5000 and UBER GODLIKE - and you know what - it would still be laughable in combat!! Why, you may ask? Well simple - R units have never been combat droids until SOE mangled star wars beyond recogntition!!!! No where in any of the books or movies has something like this occured!!! (R2's zapper is a defensive measure - not offensive!!!! I mean really folks - this is worse than Jar Jar!!!
BTW, at 30 - 50k per R3 unit - it is cheaper to go get a Buff from a master doc (6-10k) and you can easily grind to polearms 4 in the three hour limit by yourself with no pets or stimpacks
Why waste 50k??? Not to mention newbie chars will never see 50k at one time before they reach the top of a combat skill tree - so these are less than useless for Newbs
Khadim - Soon to be Ex Master Droid Engineer - Sunrunner
Sutek Amon'Ra - Jedi Slayer Extrodinaire - Sunrunner

That's just a matter of personal taste, whether or not you find the R3 'asthetically pleasing'. I think it's kind of cool to see something in such a small package blasting projectiles at 30m at lightning at 50m. We all have our tastes, and you're entitled to them.
And just for the record, I sell my R3 units for 35K, the probots for 30K, which is what they will go down to after the combat droid craze dies down.
And Mars, I happen to love DE. Maybe DE just wasn't for you. That's why the game has 30 professions in it.
Very true Ty , your right about that. Thankfully we can switch profs at any time.
DE was for me tho. Even before it was released I wanted to be a DE. I came into the game on day 2 and for the next 5 months or so I kept hearing they were fixing us in the next patch. It never happened so I reluctantly dumped it all in 1 day after pub 6 . It was the best decision i've made ingame to date. This patch was a hotfix at best. I'm glad someone still likes the profession tho. It is just a game after all. Happy gaming Ty ![]()

Shain,
Let me try to understand this, you want combat droids to hava a of AR2, where all pets and creatures under LvL 40 have a AR of 0.
You want a Combat Droidhave a AR of 2, where most weapons have a AR of 1.
You want Combat Droids have a AR2 where the best Armor you can buy only has a AR of 2.
Hmmmm...sounds pretty unbalanced to me.
I agree completely - I'm actually enjoying the additions, and my new R3, Ankle-Biter is kicking some butt. For the record though, I still like my new Probot better because it:
1. Does more damage
2.Attacks more quickly.
The advanced probot has about 600-800 less HAM that these new R3s, but if you want to mostly deal out damage the probot is the way to go - and the point EVERYONE keeps forgetting is that we can heal them now, making them far more useful than before. I definitely have some issues with this publish (for example all my old probots in crates are even worse even though they aren't that different) but it HAS made droids more useful as a combat assistant. I just wish we could have gotten some Trade Fed and Droideka CL10 droids in the mix as well, would have been nice just to have the option since the animations and everything are obviously in game.

Good try Ty...commendations to you..a very good try, this and all your posts in this thread
But....as usual with apologists, you are missing the point. Cool as that R3 might be (depending on personal taste etc) it is still not an AR2 droid, and no amount of pompoms and Ra Ra is going to alter that. We were nerfed, and for no good reason that has EVER been properly explained.
So, while I love your positive, upbeat attitude..and I love how TK rushes in to support you, I wont be joining the SWG fanclub anytime before AR2 is restored to our Droids. That is now a minimum requirement to restore the damage they have done.
I dont want to fight with you over this, but people coming into an amputee's hospital room and saying 'never mind, you still have the one leg----look on the bright side' are not altering the fact that a leg has been taken away...for no good reason.
I could see the newer Advanced DZ-70s being decent for a beginner, combined with some repair kits it could be a fair companion for a new character.

He is one problem you might not have thought about. Pets can be buffed while droids cannot. You can effectivly double or even triple the amount of HAM a CL 10 pet has but cannot on a droid.
As stated before, these droids are probably good for beginning characters. Problem is that it still would be a bit pricey for a beginner to purchase. He sees the stats on a pet and droid. Figures they are generally the same. However, when he looks at the price, he chooses the pet. Why? Cause the price difference.
Also, pet stims are relativly easy to buy and produce. This, however, is not the same for droid stims. The more advanced versions of the droid stims require resources that have only spawned a couple times on our server. Thus, keeping a pet alive in combat by using pet stims is much more cost effective than healing a droid.
They are designed for new people
No "new person" is going to be able to afford the top end battle droid.
or people grinding out level 1 professions
Why, if I were grinding out a profession, would I want a pet to soak up xp while I tanked the mob? That defeats the purpose of grinding. Sorry, it's the other way around. I want a pet tank that can sit there while I whomp on in from a distance.
I took the first new probot I made out to clear a couple tuskens away from my harvesters. It was shredded. Then I was shredded.
