All I have to say is... WOW.

You've summed up this game and the forces behind it almost perfectly. This game has almost limitless potential, and I'm doubting that it will ever be realized. I've been around these forums a lot less, haven't been in game much, mostly because my desire isn't there... I'm utterly disapointed by the complete Dev attention we supposedly had with Publish 7, and Publish 8 looks horrid from what we've seen of it.

I'm sorry to see ya go, Virt. I'm sorry to see anybody go. But I understand completely. The funis being drainedout of this game like a sieve. I myself have one finger on the "Cancel" button, I think there is 3 months or so left on my subscription. It was the Star Wars name that kept me around for so long, but even the Force isn't strong enough to save this game...

Well said, V. I too will click that "cancel subscription" button within the week. Why? I think you summed it all up for me! I just can't stand paying forsomething that never gets real fixes or something that is just plain boring. Good luck in your future gaming.

Virt,

I'm sad to see you go...we lose, yet again, another veteran.

You've been a great asset and leader for the DEs. I hope that you at least keep an eye on the state of things and check back in if you see those really good things happening.

You will be missed.

Great post. 100% True. This is one post Itruly hope the DEVs read.

They have done some stuff moderately right, and way too many things wrong.

Besides Mounts/Vehicles, this game has not improved much over 9 months. Nothing Fun has been added, and it just seems like mindless drudgery ever day that I log on.

I will be joining you once my 1 year subscription runs out (last time I am doing that with a MMORPG).

I also noticed a lot of posts saying 'Come back and check us out once Space Expansion comes out'.

Just makes you think, if they have not done 1 thing right with the regulargame, what makes you think Space Expansion will be any different? Its the same people making it.

I was hoping to stick around until it comes out any ways, but there is too many other MMORPG coming out this year.

1of them is bound to be good/fun.

Farewell, Virtanis.

I had somehow hoped that all the old veterans would stick it out even though I couldn't. I would cancel my account completely if there wasn't other fun things to do in the game, and that is what makes it even sadder. I once thought that I would leave the game before giving up DE, and I decided against that. But now that I know that other professions can be fun and rewarding, the Droid Engineering profession seems even worse than it did from the inside.

You are right. And hopefully they will remedy the situation. They seem to be focused on this game as an acedemic venture and a business venture, and notas worried about whether or not it is a fun game.

I am sorry to see you go.

Great post Virt, GL wherever you go. I troll the boards here now, hoping against hope that the clouds will part, lightning will strike and DE will be something FUN that I want to do again, butstill the ironclad grey clouds of Doom hang over this profession and more veterans leave not only the profession, but the game.

Fair winds at your back Virt.

I know it's a SOE product, but I'm waiting for EQ2. I always had fun with EQ1, so maybe EQ2 will be what draws me away from this

Sorry to see you go.... you speak truth.

(Another aside - Lonkley ... I'm a code monkey, long time now, 25 yrs. This games gives code monkeys a bad name. I always fix my bugs. )

Well, the good news is I think I can still post. The bad news is I think the bastards have billed me for another month! (note* check creditcard statements this month).

All I can say is damm... All I can hope is that you have taken your SWG CD case out back, burned the plastic over a chicken bone, put the chickenbone in a mayonese jar, buried it in the back yard, then did an evil dance above it while jabbing pins into the fingers of various Public Relations and Program Manager voodoo dolls. Or at least that's what I did. Actually, in retrospect it may be a bad idea to do this. Melting plastic fumes are toxic, after all....

But I came back here as I was trolling my own goodbye post to boost my terribly insecure ego when I stumbled across yours. Here's my advice matey: If you want a Star Wars feel (and have access to a copy of Battlefield 1942) check out a modification called "Galactic Conquest (www.galactic-conquest.net). It is absolutely stunning how a beta version of a game hack can immerse me more in the Star Wars universe than a full mass multiplayer online world can. I tell you, there is nothing like flying a Tie Fighter and dropping in behind a wave of Xwings who are racing down the trench of the Deathstar. Or watching from the trenches as a pair of snowspeeders scream overhead and blast away at a bunch of walkers in the distanceover the snowcovered fields of Hoth (as I run to find cover from the extremely deadly Probot floating into view). And all this pales in comparison to standing on the bridge of a Correllian Corvette, commanding the others standing at the weapon terminals to bring their gunsround to take out a Tie Bomber, shouting down to the boarding teams to launch their pods, all the whilebringing the ship in at ramming speed against an imperial transport.

I look at all these things and I find pity that a First Person Shooter brings me closer to a true Star Wars experience than SWG ever will. Not only that, but it doesn't even compare.

Anyhow, this is my advice for anyone looking for a better StarWars fix. And now that I've pirated this post, I better get back on topic. Was great knowing you Virtanis. Good luck in your endevours and always watch out for a guy called Woody in any future MMORPG you play I'm sure I'll hit up the next one or two.

You'll be missed. Safe travels to you, and may your next virtual world bring what you seek.

As a side note. I think the criticisms some people makeof the Dev's is a bit harsh, I think its pretty clear that there is a serious lack of resources. Too many professions, too many bugs, too many additions and too few coders to get them done. Blame the game, blame the management, and the penny pinchers who wont invest part of the monthly charge back into the game. But dont blame the code monkeys who have way more to do on their task list than is possible within a life time.
