Thread: SOE should promote Old World Craftsmanship!
Nerfing the factories just to satisfy your own particular play style isn't the way to increase participation in the DE profession, since your play style is in no way universal. I for one would have no reason to continue playing a DE, since efficiency would be out the window and quality, no matter what bonuses, would be based on a random die roll for each and every subcomponent.
That's not a good idea. The ramifications are all bad. Demand would NOT increase, but instead decrease. DE's would drop out of the profession. Supply would go down to nil. At a certain point, low supply destroys demand.
bugatti , rolls royce, and bentley's are all hand made arent they
but i could get a honda from a factory...my 2cents on the car analogy not the topic lol...
i dont think hand crafted droids should be better stat wise but how bout some customization u cant do in a factory...extra colors or some such i dunno..just thinking aloud again

(by the way, Rolls Royce bodywork and finishing is done by hand - engines, transmissions, other critical mechanical workings are factory made)
This correction brings up an alternate proposal in my mind.
Instead of nerfing factories (stat changes) if you really want to have people come to DE's, and have our presence appreciated and requested (anyone have contant I need an armorsmith for repair? Any on? in your guildchat?) then perhaps we could do more with the following:
1. Customization of Readied (old) Droids
Allow for the addition of up to 2 general OR 1 combat modules to an already Readied ADV droid. This would require a /consent and a repair droid. Resources could be based on OQ and CON, allowing for the customization to have some resource impact.
Recommend that the combat module option also require a manipulator arm set of the same mech quality or higher than the combat module.
Recommend that the general module option require an ADV Frame component with the same mech quality or higher than the general module.
2. Additional module slots of Deeded Droids
Allow for the addition of up to3 general and 1 combat module to be added to any ADV deed, excepting MSE droids (suggestion for MSE ADV - 1 additional general module and 1 combat {ranged attack only}, max)
Non ADV deeds (excluding the MSE) could have 2 general modules added max.
As before, this would require a /consent and a repair droid. Resources could be based onlyon OQ, allowing for the customization to have some resource impact and giving a benefit for pre-ordering (besides the greater number of slots).
Recommend that the combat module option also require a manipulator arm set of the same mech quality or higher than the combat module.
Recommend that the general module option require an ADV Frame component with the same mech quality or higher than the general module.
3. (And I'm going to get hell for this one) CustomCombat Modules
These combat modules would be onlyable to be fitted in single slots at Deeded or Readied Customization steps.
These would REQUIRE as a component2 identicalnon-sliced pistols and a 100 plus rated Combat module. The additional combat rating would be 1/5 the MINIMUM damage the weapon would do PLUS the rating of the Combat Module component. The damage TYPE for the droid would be changed (anyone want to see a genosian stun pistol based droid? )
The upshot is that
1. People would bring their droids in for servicing;
2. Final 'craftsmanship' would allow customization on factory readied units (allowing both 'industrialists' and cottage workshop DE's to benefit)
3. Allow DE's to act as a 'money and item sink'
4. Give DE's the satisfaction of being a prized craftsman
5. Allow specialization for Combat droid loving DE's
and
6. Go a heck of a long way to make combat droids attractive to customers.
Thoughts?
