Thread: Droid Module Socket Clusters?
Technically you are correct.
But that STILL leaves us with a bad design that makes an expensive and diffult-to-built R3 the precise functional equivalent of a basic MSE.
That is a problem.
Now I'll take it a step further: I don't think Thunderheart knows what he's talking about when he ventures into Droid Engineering territory. I don't mean to slam him, I like the guy well enough, and think he's sincerely trying to make the best of the situation in which he finds himself. However, I also think that he's completely overwhelmed with the volume of stuff he needs to do, and that he has a natural affinity toward combat, not crafting, and therefore isn't properly educated about certain matters. How long does it take to become knowledgable about Droid Engineering? Now how long does it take if you're also studying the other fifteen professions you've never taken an interest in?
that and you cant try to slip 2 questions into 1, because he only answers _1_ question ever. If you cant write a question with a yes/no answer with no variations, the answer never makes sense.
actually, i think how webuild droids is a pretty simplistic concept, but im a programmer so that may skew things.
GCM fitting into service slots is my greatest hate, mainly because when i was a novice DE I thought that GCM were meant to fit into these slots (I couldnt build R3 R2 so didnt know there was a difference in slots)
I know ignorance of an issue is no defenceand I am sure I have exploited this bug at some point and honestly dislike that style of play and wouldn't have done so if knew. I feel hypocritical pointing out to others that thier mouse with Storage/medical/data must be exploit
I think that in the context of the game its a very confusing bug/exploit line. I got the cluster BEFORE I ever checked the forums, and when I built a probot the cluster showed up as a viable module to install, so I installed it. I never looked too closely at the names of the sockets or anything, I just clicked on materials that show up in the build window asI always do when crafting. I never thought anything of it, because every other module I made worked in these "catch-all" sockets.
After I saw the forums, I had to think about it some more. I looked hard at the names of things (the standard socket is called a General Droid Module Socket, and the cluster is called a General Droid Module Socket Cluster. I finally decided that indeed it was meant to be a Clusterof GDMSs, not a Cluster to go into a GDMS. It was the forums that got me thinking about it, not the gameplay. Even so, though people here are pretty sure the cluster-stacking is a bug, but aren't as certain about clusters in regular sockets.
I only ever made about three droids "incorrectly" this way, all before I ever knew there might be something wrong with it. I thought I should point out that for some people who don't read the forums, it's not obvious that it's a bug or exploit at all. It follows the general pattern of redundant and confusing parts that mix-and-match into droids in a variety of ways. Even now, if SOE confirmed that the code is currently working as intended I could totally believe that. It's just unclear!
SOE should fix this. In the worst/easiest case, just remove the cluster moduleand give the droids that currently use one an equivalent number of normal sockets. In the meantime, I shall restrict my use of clusters to those droids that strictly require them.

You know, sometimes we just have to use a little common sense. It's such an obvious exploit, it hurts my head when people actually debate whether it is or not.
Lol, my thoughts exactly. To argue the point is stupid. For those that argue it is not a bug are the same ones making MSE's with every module to try and undersell everyone else. I have only seen one vendor on my server with exploited droids and they are doozies. Probots with everything for 20K. Why in the hell buy anything else besides one of those? Combat and every utility rolled up into one.

When you see someone like that, write down their coordinates, and planet. Submit a ticket about a player using a known exploit and provide those coords and planet in the mail.

Or better yet, use the correct terminology and report that a player is exploiting a known bug. ![]()
BTW, Thunderheart's answer does, in fact, confirm that putting a cluster module into a normal socket is a bug. He stated clearly that clusters are not supposed to stack, right? How do you stack clusters? By putting a cluster module into a normal socket. Ergo, that is a bug.
It's good enough for me anyway.
