Thread: DE's, (all 5 of you) Do you recommend non-CH pets to people looking for good combat droids ?
To begin with I don't 'push' probots or any other droids on anyone. When someone asks me about droids, I answer honestly and thoroughly. As far as probots in general go, or probot vs non-ch pet, there is really no reason not to use both. The pet can do more damage and have a larger HAM. However the advanced Probot can help with heals (with medical module), hold inventory items (with item storage module), help with crafting (with crafting station installed) all while helping to protect me, and can take a pounding with medium 40% armor. Any droid is only going to be as good as the modules installed in it. Probots are an excellent choice.

I still don't understand how they came up with the whole CH class to begin with. It's not in the movies, it's not in the books and I haven't seen in any of the comics. I refuse to use creatures in combat and don't have any as pets. I'm a Master Marksman (the only combat skills I have) and used a Probot to help get me there. Until recently, I didn't even group much at all. While a Probot does 50-56 damage, he does have an attack speed of 1.5 which is pretty darn fast. 40% medium armor is nice too. Like someone else pointed out too, if you aren't a scout and don't have a tent, how exactly are you going to heal in the wild without your droid being out? (that's if of course he has a med module). I would gladly go out to do missions with my R2 unit over using a Cowardly Gurrek.
If I were a dev and I was in charge of making droids better battle companions, I would simply allow for different weapon modules to be used on combat droids. Afterall, you have a choice as to what level of armor the Probot is going to have, why not have the choice of the weapon he's going to use?
:steps off the soap box: Sorry, didn't mean to get so long winded.
I dont care what kind of trainer you are, if you tell your kitten to go kill/tank a krayt dragon, its going to look at you like your insane, then countinue cleaning itself.
My main selling point on a probot is its tanking ability. It's a damned good tank.
I'm going to log a fight between my probot with 40% Medium armor and something. Realize please we're not going to be looking at damage potential here, just tanking ability.
The ability to tank far outweighs in my opinion somthing that has paper armor and high damage. I can damage the mob myself, I don't need a damage dealer.
However after saying that, I want to kick myself because i'd like to have both in a probot
But having to choose, I'd choose tank over damage dealer.
Logging in now to log a fight.

Lets see. How many pets can a non-ch have out? One. What is the best pet for taking damage for a non-CH? Rock Beetle. Wouldn't it be nice to have something that can take MORE damage than a Rock Beetle and have it out along with your pet?
These are tools. You just have to know how to use them. If all you care about is damage done by something other than you then a probot is not for you. If you use a probot properly you can take on creatures that you would otherwise not be able to and also get most of the XP for yourself. I have 2 characters and use probots ALL the time. One character is a CH and I use 3 of them. How? Keeping agros off of me. Intercepting agros that started attacking me. Keeping high level creatures off of me while I shoot. Attacking lairs to spawn babies.
So should you have a pet? YES! Should you have a probot with your pet? YES! Probots are GREAT people. Just learn how to use them.
Here's the adv/dis for the probot:
Disadvantages
1) Low damage. Won't taunt mods much
2) Low HAM. Armor helps with this but not against AP mobs
3) Can't heal damage
Advantages
1) With max armor its HAM is effectively around 5400
2) It's ranged attack is excellent for single pulling mobs out of packs
3) If #2 fails it attracts the extras(since it attacked first) and depending on the creature strength can take the pounding from multiple mobs long enough for you to kill them.
4) low damage allows you get more xp
5) Low HAM healing - since it depends on armor to boost it's effective HAM the probot doesn't take a huge amount of time to heal up. Use two probots and switch when one gets lows.
If I missed any add them.
I have noticed recently doing faction missions that my probot often draws the entire aggro, leaving me to knock em down in relative safety. I think as a companion to a pet they are just fine but people do need to know their limitations.
What we need are the battle droids ala episode 1 (these should be DE only) and a better damage dealing probot. The best probot should be balanced againstthe best non-CH pet in terms of damage dealing and protections and be available to all.
At the end of the day this is SWG and people want droids, the devs need to givethem to us. What we don't need are nerfs to other classes to compensate.
