Over time, that's becoming less and less of a reason for me.

Same here.
If it's still fun for you, go for it. DE's tend to help each other out. I myself used to help people I knew were going to become competitors. They'd roll in and ask some questions and see if I thought they could sell MSE droids with level 1 storage.
I kept 200 or so crated level 6 item storage and level 6 med modules in a backpack in my store basement. I'd 'sell' them a crate of each for 2000cr on credit and advise them to sell the item storage MSEs they could make for 6k each on the bazaar.
I used to love doing that - they'd end up with a hefty bank balance and they'd actually be selling decent droids right off the bat.
Unfortunately, since CU came I just don't have fun anymore. Don't see any new DE's, and it's oftentimes too dangerous for any crafter to wander around Naboo.
