This is unacceptable.
"Unacceptable" to you or not, it is how it is....sorry.

So I buy the droid, have to repaint it every 3 days, and put new batteries in each day...just isn't worth it to keep droids around.
First off, no one says you have to paint a droid. You can leave them 'stock' and never have to paint them.....ever. Yes, you do need to put in batteries. The best thing to do is get a crate or two of them. Problem solved.
And...despite what you believe...it's very worthwhile to keep droids around.
You BH's can't do your jobs without them, boss. Sorry.
I was intending to get one for each of my guild members, but not anymore.
Probably easier to let them buy their own, I'm guessing.
Thanks for everyone's assistance.

Respectfully,
Quite simply, the answers are the truth, and your poor attitude to answers that are not in your favour won't get you any favours around here. Customisation does fade, always has, always will. Paint not sticking, that's a pre-patch droid, as the others have stated. 4K for a paint job, you got ripped off. Battery consumption, yes, we know about that. We're not happy either with the rate, and are trying to get it fixed, but not in any short amount of time. It took us a whole week to get the devs to even fix a problem that left the entire profession completely useless (much life Chefs are right now), so don't expect minor issues like battery consumption to be fixed overnight, or even in the next month. Besides, look at Dev Tracker, yet again the Devs are ignoring fixing professions in order to continue working on P0kemon wars....
That being said, I'm going to say this as clearly and simply as I can: There is NO game mechanic in SWG that will allow you to have what you want, even though what you want seems incredibly simple and reasonable. Even though what you want SEEMS to be supported, at least for Advanced droid models, by the fact that we get to customize the color of the chassis which then is used to build a final droid that will be randomly colored every time you pull it out.
I'm sorry, that's just the way it is.
You droid randomly changing colour can mean one of many things. In fact all the answers above may well be correct, we really don't know. A random colour change each time you call the droid suggests a droid that was built after the big patch, that's one of the key indicators. If you said it was grey/red all the time, then it means a pre-big-patch droid. If the colour is not sticking, there can be many reasons why. Here's some various reasons. None of them are conclusive. None definitive. These are things that have passed through the boards in the past couple of weeks. You'll need to draw your own conclusions from them, just as we are.
It is possbile that some or all of the components were made before the big patch. I would discount that as being unlikely because I make my probots and R2/R3s with some components from crates made before the patch and they keep their colours.
There are reports that droids made with frames that were produced before their patch but had the final assembly done after the big patch don't hold their colour. They produce random colours like new droids, but don't hold the colour either between store and call.
There was a time between when the big patch landed and we got a proper fix for droid colours that droid frames could be produced (there was a long time where they couldn't at all) and droids made then hold their colour after the 3rd or 4th paint/store/call cycle.
All droids produced after the final patch about a week ago now hold their colour after first being made. Any colour assigned during the construction process is ignored. To colour it the DE needs to use a Droid Customisation Tool, that is available at Novice Level. Only a DE can use this tool. What is available to a Novice is the same as taht available to a Master, so there's no need to seek out a MDE. Novices will probably keep repainting it for a hell of a lot cheaper than the Master will.
Colour is designed to fade, on purpose. We don't know exactly how long that is. Pre big-patch there used to be a Customisation Lifespan readout in the datapad entry. That has now disappeared, but before it had a number counting down from 20. We have no reason to believe that it has changed the number of call/stores.
Rubbing off in 20 call/stores is probably too low, but what that should encourage you to do is keep the droid called as much as possible. Like the movies, droids get kept out in the movies. You don't see them being put into pockets and calling them again. This encourages some degree of realism. Don't want your droid to be scratched and bumped about, don't keep throwing it in the storage compartment.

a droid's painting should not fade, period. Maybe once every 1000 calls out, but definitely not like it is now. Those coloring kits require 2 components, only have like 2-3 charges each, and some droids have two colors to set, so a whole customization unit can go in one droid.
While I disagree that droid coloring should never fade, I do agree that the 20 or so calls is much too low...but I wouldn't go 1000 calls either.
Also, try experimenting on those kits and the components, you should get 5+ charges easily. Heck, the one time I got only 5 was when I failed on an experimentation, usually I get at least 6.
