Maybe it would be fun that if you didn't have/use an Astromech (Flight PC), you'd have some chance (X%) of arriving in the wrong sector when you dropped out of hyperspace.

Yeah, that would be cool.

What's up witch ya' bad self?

I've been playing a lot more these days. JTLing it: helping my guildies with missions and shipwright grinding. Sodan's a full blown entertainer these days. Dropped the DE skills a while back and it was the right choice. But I use droids, ironically, a lot more these days.

DE is still my most beloved profession, and I want to contribute to its improvement constructively, but I am having fun with Sodan and my alt and that's what really matters. This is a game, after all!

Since I was the one who brought up the issue in Beta, I'll chime in. Basically the rationale against this had more to do with gating players due to money (richest players get the best droids and thus an advantage) than anything else. We were told by the dev dealing with droidstuff that he'd bring it up as a possibility, but I don't think we ever heard back on it. I agree 100% that it makes sense and would actually solve a lot of problems (giving droid brains andflight computersa rating and letting us experiment on it would be sweet). It just got lost in the shuffle. The time we see now is the minimum possible due to server constraints, but personally I don't see how adding a minute to this time, then decrementing it by 10 seconds for each level of droid/FC would be so terrible.

As for the "ship balance" issue, that point is largely moot, since the ships could easily be given an extra 500 across the boards for a Droid Interface. Its the fact that Looted interfaces, crafted interfaces, and the droid programs themselves seem slightly out of whack that is a bigger hurdle. I've fallen in serious Like with Straker's (I think it was his) idea to make the DI essential to hyperspacing (maybe essential is too much, but adding a chunk of time to hyperspace calcs would be "fair" I think), and have it be a targetable, damageable system in all ships. It does indeed look like people are ignoring flight comps and droids in favor of saving mass and having a nastier ship. Should they be able to simply ignore the entire skill tree like that? I say make it cost/benefit. As it stands now, there is zero penalty for such a tactic. If you choose to save mass by not having countermeasures, you are vulnerable to missiles. If you choose not to have a Droid/FC, what happens? Nothing.

The image in my head that drives all this is that right now in JtL a hack pilot can do the calculations in his head, just as quickly as my highly experimented Advanced R3 Astromech with Intellex IV droid brains. If the real world were like that, I would only have to stick my finger in the wall socket and the JtL CD in my mouth to play this game....

I don't see why they didn't make the now-relatively-useless droid repair module do this. It doesn't work on vehicles or anything else but other droids. Since you can only have one out at a time, you can't even use it on your own droids.

Having it slowly repair your ship in-flight (up to a certain percentage) would be very useful.

Why would the JTL speeds have to be modified for each droid level? Couldn't there be a computational increase at 2, 4, and 6 or even 3 and 6 instead of at each droid/FC level?

This would allow a reasonable increase in speeds without decreasing the base speed by very much.

Theoretically, any computation a droid/FC can do a being with a slide rule can do.....eventually. Making the JTL without a droid/FC should be possible, just the slowest possible speed.
