Thread: Poll: New DE Focus Threads(tm) Should I even bother?

i care...but as a patient MDE i dont see them having much effect other then being time killers. Its painfully obvious that the devs do things in the same pattern as we would if we were just doing there job....aka path of least resistence. So were back to polling for a bunch of stuff of which only 10% will be absorbed and that portion will be the parts the devs believe to be easier to integrate. my final say is keep the hope, but dont waste your breath. We shouldnt have to repeat ourselves so much. -shrug-

Dont bother man. I love your threads tho, and if you are bored (which I frequently am as a DE), then alt+tab out and write it up. But dont do it in the hopes they will pay attention. On the first day of their day back from vacation (for some of them, the second vacation in 4 months) we dont even rate a "Hey ya'll, I'll be posting <insert meaningless document title> in the next day or two so you can start to talk about the Droid Invasion."

I've stopped making droids commercially and only make them for Guildies and friends. I have over 300 crates of components stored on a vendor, and 2 backpacks full of resources. I'm a Master Chef now, and am gonna play that for a while. At least they have gotten some kind of communication, and their changes look interesting. Much more interesting than an R4 weilding a sword, or an MSE weilding a flamethrower. And you just KNOW they will continue the trend of letting our cheapest and simplest droid hold the most complex and expensive combat module.

Jedi will never be a starting profession...Looted items and quest items will never be better then crafted items, this is not a loot based game...CH will return shortly...CH and BE will not be back in game...Rangers are getting their revamp next!...The stealth system will not be changing in the spy expertise...Need any more examples of things the devs said that did not hold true?

I have really appreciated your poll threads, and I think they have been very useful.

That being said, I don't think any polls are worth your time. Look at what the devs have done: The most recent information about the DE and Droid revamp shows that the developers are doing EXACTLY the same thing that they proposed 3 months ago that everyone hated...DE's reformed into CH part 2, combat modules on all droids. The ONLY difference the proposed dev changes will make is to: (1) let people put combat modules on all droids, thereby making all droids just like the current probot (giving people an even greater incentive to buy only one droid); and (2) add new DE-only combat droid chassis.

Summarized: The only changes to droids the devs are making is turning DE into a combat class.

Devs don't give a crap what we think...they do whatever they want, and encourage people to post in unread polls to give the illusion of listening (as illustrated by the fact that TH will be posting 3-5 focus threads this week that mirror threads already hosted by Sin, you, and others and beat to death in these forums over the past 3 months). Sin's Top 5 already answers all the questions they will be re-asking, making it 100% clear that either devs aren't listening at all, or TH isn't doing his job. Whatever the case, further discussion is frivilous...the devs have already stated that they are pushing the changes by next month, and all of us know that they will not be revamping anything because it is already 90% completed.

Yea...your whole post partly echoes my fears.

Since we have no official discussion/direction, we have no way to discuss anything constructively.

I mean...a perfect example:

We are on the eve of the biggestchanges to the DE profession ever. Now, of ALL times, we have no correspondent.

.....'nuff said.

If we WERE the top priority, and the Devs really wanted us to feel/know that communication was a focus and a priority, we'd be hearing from them.

Instead....we get the continuation of the ill-conceived "Droid Plan" they put forth so long ago.

I really, really am beginning to believe that my voice makes no difference....that discussion is fruitless.

The Focus Threads have beena good way to get constructive discussions flowing in our community. I've been considering dusting offthe thread'Having a problem with your droid?' 'No. No problem...why?' but I have to agree that not getting a bit of DEV recognition is kind of let down.

One of the problems with keeping such threads running is that not enough people stand up and voice what they would like to see, in a thread that doesn't have a post made by a DEV or Correspondent.Sintrosi did a great job as Correspondent, but even he admitted to not being around as much on the DE forums and was becoming disenfranchised with much that was going on.All it takes is a single post by a red or light blue name for that thread to gain a bit more recognition, which is all that some really need to keep a constructive thread rolling.

If you work on reviving the Focus Threads, I'll work on reviving my Thread.

I'm going to be honest with you...

I think the major decisions are already made. They have to be for the timelines they've even half committed to.

If you like the discussion, and think it's interesting, make the threads. However, if you're making them because you actually think it will drive the changes significantly, save yourself the wasted effort.

RealTK says: "We are on the eve of the biggest changes to the DE profession ever. Now, of ALL times, we have no correspondent."

Exactly. We both understand the magnitude of this situation. That's why I think it's incredibly important that we try to fall in together and speak as loudly as we can as a single voice.

Exactly. It's too bad that someone won't just show up and tell us what's up.

Virtanis,

Trying to speak (shout) loudly with a single voice is pretty hard when:

1) there is no single voice to which the devs listen (i.e. no Correspondent yet)

2) it doesn't appear that they listen to whatever voice is put in front of them, when it doesn't match what they'd decided to do already.

Example of the fallacy of...."the Devs know what's best for us, so why try...???":

The Dev team thought that their implementation of the creature/CH/pet system was what was "best" for us...that they knew better.

I guess we all know how that turned out, huh?

If only they ACTUALLY listen (instead of trying to code from some kind of ego-induced ivory tower).

TK421, I love your threads. They are well thought out and and presented clearly. They are truly deserving of a post from a red name.

That being said, I think to continue to put those thoughts together will only be a waste of your time. The people that will get something out of those documents are not the ones making the decisions on how this profession should be put together.

Another reason that I think you would be wasting your time is that for 6 months we have been promised many things that we have never seen come to fruition. I was complacent in Nov when they said we would be getting attention in Dec, Jan, and Feb. Now that is is Jan, I am wondering what theywere talking about when I dont even hear there are changes on the test center yet. Maybe they meant we would get attention in Feb, Mar and Apr. My point here is that even if they read your threads and say "Great Ideas TK, your ideas are our top priority now", well you know what it means to be a top priority in this game. You,I and all the other DE'shave been one for six months.
