50 calls is a couple of weeks at least. If you're constantly calling your droid over and over, you might want to think about leaving it out instead of storing it every time you turn around.
I think the increase for 20 to 50 is great and just about perfect, especially if everyone can now use them like we were told.

youre missing the whole point. we want to play a fun game. developers want to make a fun game so folks play it and pay them money. all agreed the goal here is fun? customising vehicle and droid color is fun.
having to do it on a regular basis isNOT FUN. people get tired of it, they decide not to paint their stuff at all anymore. then they think, how come these devs are this stupid not to make a change which makes the game more fun for everyone but the rare sadist who likes hitting himself with a pain stick, aka painting their stuff on a regular basis. guy thinks, i dont get it, it would make the game more fun, it would make me happier to play this game. how come the devs cant see a simple thing like this? if they cant see a simple thing like this what else will they mess up? guy thinks to himself, when it warcraft coming out?
fastforward to future, some guy paints his droid for 257th time, looks around and says, hey where everone go? and why did folks stop buying my color customisation kits 6 months ago?

Just don't paint the damn things and leave them the butt ugly random colors they come out each time.
This reminds me of an amusing situation that I had once while helping a customer with his new droid.
I always paint my customers' droids for free and I explain how the paint fades, etc, and how the every time you call an R-series droid that it will have a random color unless you have it painted, etc. This guy wants his R3 painted black on red, so I tell him to call it and I'll paint it for him.
So he calls it, and of course it randomly comes out black on red.
Him: "That's perfect, thanks!"
Me: "No, I haven't done anything yet, I still have to paint it."
Him: "No, it's fine that way, there's no need"
Me: "No, we just got lucky... if I don't paint it the color will change the next time you call it."
Him: "But I like that color!"
Me: "That's cool, I'll just paint it those same colors for you."
... pause ...
Me: "I still need /consent in order to paint it for you."
Him: "Why? It's perfect the way it is."
Me: /sigh

I can't respond to every thread...
They don't give out a benefit without there being some cost. That's the way of things. If you want the benefit of being able to paint droids, I guess the cost we all have to bear is that it fades.
It's a little money/resource sink really.

I use my kits all the time. I just crated up a big bunch and carry it around. I pop 'em out as needed and paint away.
I am betting 50 calls will be it for now. We might see that change down the line but I think we should see what the paying droid public says on this one (to see how the patch affects this issue).

I tested this on TC and the paint kits were usable by non-DEs. So, it did appear to be working.

Speaking of which, has anyone checked to see whether or not they're now usable by everyone like they're supposed to be?
Non-DEs will get a total of 32 colors (4 main colors, 8 hues a piece).

Howsabout a choice? Colouring kits can be made into crates so, one colouring kit lasts 50 calls, a crate of 50 could last 50 x 50 = 2500 calls. All that would have to be changed is the ability to colour using a whole crate in one go. That way everybody should be happy. There would be every option available from 50 calls to 2500 calls just by splitting a crate. The DEs wouldn't lose any money, the game would have its little money sink and the player could use it for any duration they wished.
