Well, these publishes will give a temporary boost. Here's how I see things happening on Eclipse as a result:

1. Utility droids will sell pretty good for awhile until everyone has what they need of the new features. But since droids never wear out, the market for them will eventually drop off. Combat is the main event in the game. The further your market is from it, the lower your profit potential is.

2. The bluk of the Eclipse player population is out on the outer planets. Dantooine is packed. In fact, so many players are there that the whole planet is lag city. Also crowded are Dathomir and Endor somewhat. Folks at that skill level have no use for a CL10 anything, droid or otherwise.

3. The "pure crafters" that have won the day today and gotten what they want, will move on in 3 or 4 months when they burn out and either switch professions or cancel account. And they will be leaving those of us that wanted the hybrid solution with the mess they got the DEV's to create.

So from the way this has gone, our new utility droids are two tiers away from the combat market. We sell to people who are one tier away from combat and supply the combatant's needs directly. Combatants have no need for what we produce directly. That eliminates us from the biggest market in the game.

I just can't see why so many DE's are getting excited about new features for which the market demand will be limited and short lived. Guess you will find out soon enough tho.

You are failing to realize something. I am sure as time goes on, they will be adding >(greater than)CL10 combat droids. They just havn't padded out the way to incorporate them into the game yet (who, when, where gets to use them). All in all, you must admit...this is a good start to something that is greatly lacking in this game.

Droid Commander/Handler should be rethought. Look at the long run... If they add another profession...that is going to take up another 51 or whatever Skill Points to master. Then, with the coming of the SPACE expansion, there will undoubtedly be additional professions. There just aren't enough skill points to offer a fair experience in the game, unless they give a boost to the amount of Skill Points we have. There would be more profession hopping than an indecisive college student for majors. I personally like being able to tell people that I DO NOT plan on dropping DE anytime soon. But...when people are limited to one thing, they tend to leave it sooner than later to experience something else.

Now...I don't like Droid Commander/Handler anyway. It is a rip from Creature Handler. I personally think it should be a bit more unique. The cert system was a good idea...and I like my idea about having the droids be able to Level like a player does. I think those are both better alternatives to the DC/H profession. Combined somehow or added alone, certs and leveling droids imo is a better way to go.

Horray!

Droid Handler was a dumb idea anyway.

I guess I'm about to get 1 star'd but I cant see much in here thats such a big deal.

they extended the battery length, thrown a few macro like modules into some droids, and given us more basic combat droids.

Ok its a step in theright direction, but whats next after this. I consider aspam module a disaster waiting tohappen (coronetlag anyone?).

exploding droids, well lets see how much damage they do when they explode first... 50dmg from a exploding BLLis useless,2000dmg from an exploding MSE will be overboard.

I'm more interested in publish 9, 10, and 11, as I consider most of the things listed in here eye candy or bug fixes.

I see these publishesas a good step, but no excuse to go gushy on the devs!

I just DONTlike the idea of adding a new profession, droid commander. Why dont you just take away the droid refinement tree, spread the skill over the other existing trees and in place of the droid refinement tree put in the droid commander tree. Once someone aquires all four blocks they'll be given the name of Droid commander.

The thing is i want to make, sell and use my droids. Now to add a new profession why dont you just give us more skill points?

the assassin droid type seen in kotor would be awesome to see implemented as a humanoid combat droid...

Although im curious: will we be able to equip them with our own weapons? that would be cool, or at least enable de's or weaponsmiths to make droid-specific weapons with different dmg types or such

somehow c3po and astro's dont feel like combat droids... ever..

Ok i really like this. This addresses most of the issues we de people have been asking about. The only big one left is the droid handeling issue which i agree is best pushed back. This allows the concret ideals to go foward. I'm assuming you will post another thread when it's time to revisit higher order combat droids.

Once again I'm really happy with the ideals presented here and can't wait to start making the 'new' droids .

Then you didn't look hard enough, I think. This is a pretty good-sized list that has excellent items that will make a HUGE difference for us. Is it perfect? Probably not...but then, no 2 set of publishes for us every likely could be. Let's try to stay realistic and work with them on these items...

they extended the battery length (and will be adding a meter) , thrown a few macro like modulesinto some droids (which go to the utility droids that we've been asking for...so they are listening there) , and given us more basic combat droids.

Actually...giving us combat modules. There's a touch of a difference there. Actually...a lot more than a touch, I'd think.

Ok its a step in theright direction, but whats next after this. I consider aspam module a disaster waiting tohappen (coronetlag anyone?).

Yes...this is something that kind of concerns me as well. However, I think that we could work with them to try and make sure that any ugly side-effects of this new module are minimized. Let's try to think of it in that way.

exploding droids, well lets see how much damage they do when they explode first... 50dmg from a exploding BLLis useless,2000dmg from an exploding MSE will be overboard.

Indeed. I'm sure that this will get balance-tested quite a bit.

Hmmm...like HAM repair kits/packs? I consider that HUGE. It totally changes the combat viability of droids, as does having the ability to have out a CL10 droid AND creature at the same time. I think we got quite a lot here, to be honest...maybe more than some people think.

I too am interested in publishes from 9 forward....buy maybe we should focus on crossing that bridge when we get to it. Seems like we'll have other stuff on our plates to deal with first.

I see these publishesas a good step, but no excuse to go gushy on the devs!

No one wants gush....just good discussion on how to make these changes turn out as cool as they can. That's all.

Thanks TH,

I'm very excited about "where were going" ! I have a question about where we just went though with publish 6? It was stated that Probot Hma's were tweaked to make them a low to med combat droid, and I dont see any difference at all! I made a brand new one last night from scratch with my 1000OQ poly and the best I could get was 828 HAM, which is exactly what it was before Pub 6. So can you please elaborate on what the changes were and aslo let us know that these proposed utility mods are not the only ones were getting, just the ones you KNOW are do-able,..... I think its a great start, but would also like to echo that i do still hope that we can find a way to get high level combat droids into the game soon, as I am not a "pure crafter"....I'd go nuts if I didnt go out and kill stuff often!!! thanks againb TH,Great job

I think he meant the changes made in Publish 5 with the damage increase.

Ok, I *KNOW* someone did me a favor, and posted TH's Droid post for me to read here, but guess what? PAGE 3 WONT LOAD!!!

Now the only thing I can guess is that something in TH's text is screwing with something, but I have no idea. Any Post that has a copy of TH's Droid post wont load the whole page. Dont ask me why, I have no clue. And dont bother responding to me, cause I cant read it, the onlyway imposting is cause I can still look at page 2. *shrug* No clue whats going on, sooo heres another plea.

Could someone maybe PM me his Post? if thats possible? Copy and Paste his message and send it to me? I know this has to be annoying, but believe me, I dont know what to do and Droids are a huge issue to me in this game. Any help you can give would be great. I asked for Tech support too.

Now that I think about it, TH probably meant a Level 6 combat module and not 6 combat modules.

I am willing to bet Dollars to Doughnuts that your correct. Did not think of it that way.

Also here are some questions where on the DE tree are you going to put the various modules

i disagree with those saying we are still too far removed. i already see droids used in pvp quite often, and with the new combat abilities, i believe they will become much more prevalent in the pvp arena with the different damage types and such.
