Thread: droid storage beating the imp crackdown?
I have a random idea,
if smugglers aren't supposed to be "chemists and jerri-riggers" then let's take out that ability from smugglers! (I kid i kid, don't bite my head off)
Item storage is an exploit! have you ever set a crate down in your house? how about a locked container!? You SEE how big those thigns are?!?!?! How can anyone carry around 60 of those things at once!? They shouldn't even fit in a back pack!
R2D2 held Luke's lightsaber! Yeah.... well... uh... R2D2 also shot it out to him when he was on that little hover craft! i don't see my droid doing that! No, I have to set camp and call that little... *grumble* Or walk instead of use that speeder I bought!
Knockdowns are an exploit too you know. How can you get knocked down when you're already on your back? go ask the Imperial who caught me on a TEF a few weeks back and beat me to death. I think he was a master TKA to a novice Fencer, yeah, serves to reason, heh.
I'd say something intelligent at this point, but no one would care and I won't make everyone stop fighting, at least this way i might instigate something further, or maybe even make someone laugh.

Well...I don't know what to say. Some of us came here not because we expect you to fix anything, as obviously you can't, but because we wanted you to understand our concerns, and how this affects the smuggler community. But some of you can't see past the crackdown and see what this means for our future. I understand that DE is one of the most broken professions in the game, but I did not expect as many of you to be so mired in self pity that you cant sympathize with our problem. If the the droid storage problem is not resolved, the countless promises from the devs, to add content and meaning to the smuggler profession, will never be realized. You Don't NEED to make scanproof droids to fix your profession. Taking them away would be a temporary setback at most. They are not vital to your profession. You will get a fix. But leaving them in will guarantee that smugglers, will never be able to smuggle.

I want smugglers to specialize in smuggling, and be the best. I really do. But this is a fictional game based on the Star Wars galaxy. That actually means that Droids themselves have professions. A good compromise is not letting them replace professions, but to let them do the tedious things that professions cannot, will not, or don't want to do themselves.
So yes, I think that this is just as pivotal an issue to Droid's future development as it is Smuggler's. Ignoring droids or disallowing them to be capable is a disservice to every player. Droids arevery much Star Wars. Game mechanics should not ignore droids, but take them into account as the intelligent (albiet artificial) entities that they are. Making them profession buffs is simply the easiest way to fit them into a system that was basically designed without them. That doesn't mean it is the best or most immersive way to add droids. And overlap is possible and plausible. TKA's meditate does what medics can do without them buying into medic. Scout camps heal over time too. Anybody can use harvesters or factories, and that overlaps artisan skills. We all live with these types of things, because it makes the player's life better.

After getting through about 3.5 pages of this, I have a question for the Smugglers (sorry if it's been asked already):
If you want to be the only people smuggling in the game and make it difficult for anybody else to carry contraband, then who is going to buy the things that need to be smuggled?
I can sympathize with you. Really I can. I started the road to smuggler at launch and gave it up after I realized there was nothing to smuggle. But this is somewhat of a self defeating argument. If nobody else can carry contraband without getting hassled by the man, then they're going to quit getting weapons sliced and won't buy spice. They'll learn to live without them if they're just too much of a hassle.
Unfortunately, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't here. If everyone can smuggle then why be a smuggler? But if nobody else can use contraband without getting hassled, who's going to buy and use the things that you're smuggling for them?
Ok, I'm a smuggler, I'll bite. Having a few pieces of sliced armor or a sliced weapon or some spice for personal use is not the issue. It is the ability to carry around multiple suits of sliced armor or 10+ crates of spice totally exempt from being scanned. I think it was put well before, that it would not hurt DE's if the droids were scannanble, but smuggler's would not lose the first tiny iota ofcontentthat we should have, (I **edit** because they had content at one time, or at least the makings of content but dumped it before release)it is a simple compromise in my mind, not that any of this really matters though, smuggler is much worse of than many of you canimagine, and people keep playing because there is somuch room for improvement, the forums are always full of wonderful ideas fromevery possible point of view/gameplay but are overlooked.
one thing though:
"If nobody else can carry contraband without getting hassled by the man, then they're going to quit getting weapons sliced and won't buy spice" in my mind, that means that it really isn't contraband if anyone can carry it, the man is suppossed to hassle you, and if the consequences are a loss in spice sales or slicing so be it. Smugglers are not your local walmart, we are for special orders and special circumstances.

Come on, seriously now. Not for everyday use? Hehehehe.[...skipping...] Everybody has sliced items, and everybody can use spice, so what is there to smuggle? I hope that Sony can come up with some cool items transportable only by smugglers for you guys or something like that, you know, so you can live up to the name. Unfortunately, you won't get the sliced items and spices genie back into the bottle, because it is too widespread of a convenience now.
