Sigh you would think the devs are gonna have to post here eventually

They'll be making enough money that they could just dump the droid profession and not have to worry about it. Well, they won't be getting any of my money, that's for sure.

As a current Novice DE, /signed as well.

I understand the different XP requirements and why they're needed. The further up the skill tree you go, the slower you'll progress. This is a simple design necessity - if you were able to reach your career goals in just a few days, the game would become pointless very quickly, and people would quit playing within a month or two. The 28.8K GCXP was a heck of a grind, but I made it.

This has to be balanced out with SOE's targeting "casual gamers" in the marketing of SWG. The casual player should be able to ascend the skill tree to the higher professions, but with the GCXP and specific XP requirements (this applies to everrything, not just our noble profession), the casual player is essentially "locked out" of ever being able to ascend to a higher profession. Even those who cannot dedicate 18 hours a day to powercrafting will find that they have reached the advanced professions late enough that their chosen skill is no longer economically viable (market saturation) by the time they attain it.

The DE skill tree needs to be tuned down some to reflect some of its disadvantages over some of the other trees. For example, if I work my way up the Eng tree, I will almost surely build personal extractors / harvesters / what not. This will give me structure XP that's transferrable to the Architect tree before I even get to it (the additional 5K GCXP required to get to Architect does NOT completely balance this).

I'd also propose a partial solution: if the grind must remain, then make it somewhat worthwhile (and by that I mean more than just allowing you to level up). The system ITSELF should somehow be able to buy back the products you grind out. For instance, if I have to grind out 350 mouse droids and the market is saturated (or they're useless), the game system itself should have a facility whereby I can sell my ground out mouse droids back to the system for a couple hundred credits apiece.

Kurt_Mendel, that will not work because then everyone would get rich so fast... also that would change the whole aspect of a player run economy. They need to make droids more expensive to make with more xp reward along with a purpose and polish all the bugs out.

I agree with Kord totally, I just achieved the Novice Level after way too much bone armor. I crafted my first mouse droid and was excited....then eh....realizing how many of these I have to make....I really feel like I just wasted that 28.8k crafting. I could have reached Master Artisan right away, armorer or weaponsmith....all currently selling their items for good credit, and what do I really end up with....a novelty item.....

Please fix the xp or options to allow a more feasable droid eng class.

Because I cannot get UXP the only way for me to advance is mass produce MSE's... I've already burned through well over 6k in minerals to get half way. Then when I can train do I get something useful? Maybe a droid with a medical module... but otherwise, no. I have no interest in combat droids and wish they would have been left out of the game.

Alot of us were hoping Protocol droids would help with translating speech. No such luck. The way languages are working now is totally uneffective. I got almost all of them on day 2 or 3. If they limited speech comprehension to 2 or maybe 3, it would help us DEs get more buisness because people would need them to translate what the other species are saying.

BTW, I just sent a /tell on the forumsto Holo... hope he responds (myexpectations are very low...)

Ok, I could totally understand the crazy XP you need to advance as a Droid Engineer if the class actually worked.... I know it's cool as hell just to be able to create and own a droid but if that is the extent of it (which it seems to be at the moment) then it's totally not worth it. I'm willing to work my butt off to master this profession but at least give us something to show for all the sleepless nights and heavy eyes we all have.

I'll sign this too.

I just gotta make myself a custom-colored R2 unit someday... right now I'm grinding my way to Eng IV with water surveyors...

Anyone have a spare 18179 metal and 5135 chemical so I can make 343 MSE droids (assuming no failures... yeah right)?

That's what it takes to get to the first level of any DE skill using MSE droids alone. 140xp each and no uxp.

Once you do that, I suggest going with R5s. At least there, you get 545 per (not including xp gained by making the components). You only get 204 for the final step (which works out to the standard 2xp/resource), but I've found that you get a little bonus (341)after you hit the assemble button. Probably to do with the subcomponents.

I'm sick of grinding droids. Kudos to those of you who stuck with it and are able to make probots and above.
