Thread: Atan's propsal to add real combat droids into SWG BETA 0.2

At the moment we have the problem that the current combat droids are simply to weak for real combat, by design. To get better ones the DEV's stated that there needs some sort of Skillpoint cost to be allowed to use them. But on the other hand the Star Wars movie Canon only supports 3 combat droid types, namely the "Roger, Roger" battle Droid Type, the Super Battle Droid and the droideka.

Now, if we take a look at the current professions and skills in SWG we see one profession that already uses NPE's (non-player entities) instead of "real" Weapons. So the 2 Ways of including combat droids would be 1.) to create a whole new profession with its own skillset and content or more easily 2.) use existing skills.

Up to the real Idea:

Give real Combat Droids to the Creature Handler! (mostly)

In the Movies the "Roger, Roger" type of droid was a massproduced, rather easy to defeat enemy, so i think it should be on par with the current CL 10 pets and could be therefore given to all players.

2 more droids left, but which is better? The SBD is biped and has a arm-mounted laser cannon while the droideka has shields, 2 high speed laser cannons and the ability to travel at a larger speed.

I would say that the SBD should be therefore about CL 40-50, so that nobody can use 2 of these. And the Droideka, which should be in my opinion best be compared to a moveable starship blaster (damagewise) should be the master only CL 70 version.

For the crafting:

To gain the Schematics for these droids there should be some sort of obstacles, best would be in a series of MDE-only quests. (BTW: The aquired Schematic should be permanent)
For the normal Battle Droid nothing that hard, maybe a time gated crafting quest, maybe 5 quests with each for a day. Now the SBD should be moderatly hard, maybe the Warren *2 or the destroy corvette or something like it. But the Droideka one should be EXTREMELY Hard, like DWB hard.

And before someone asks, No way they should take anything besides combat modules! I never ever want to see a crafting droideka!

(Well maybe detonation modules, but nothing else! )

Feel free to use this for your own proposal or to add objections, Questions and 5 Stars

Just one quick question: Do other crafting professions have to do quests for their higher end schematics?

I can almost garuntee you that the schematics will be quested, we lack content there as it is so i can see that happening.

Pretty much every possible incarnation or suggestion conerning battle droids has been suggested to this point. The problem with making SBDs DWB tough would bethat the Combat systemwould be thuroughly screwed up. with a DWB style combat droid, you would pretty much be able to screw uo every last PVE and most PVP match possible. The combat system is already in our favor, i cant begin to tell you how much things would be messed up if someone got their hands on a dungeonSBD.

The SBD's should not be DWB hard! Any firepower of that amount in player's hand would severly screw up anything. Its just the quest that should be that hard, the resulting droids should be on par with the post CURB Pets.

And for the unpopular with the CH's, i havent been able to find a fitting thread by now, gonna search some more or post a new one, or maybe someone has a link to such a thread?

Yes, RIS as example. And i would rather do any quest than a) hunt a loot schematic (like the latest additions) or b) trade in XP (like the entertainer do to get new post master stuff [AFAIK])

Taken from my ideas thread:

2) SBD, do you know how many people have asked about having those in game? I have gotten a ton of requests for them to be craftable. I think it would be awesome for the upcoming CU if the non-combat crafters (seeing as they can't wear armor) could have some personal protection like battle droids, dekas, super battle droids, and maybe a couple others. I also think these droids should decay like armor and have about the same resource usage. I believe this particular change will put DE on the map as a more useful profession and as important as AS or WS. (should be super uber and can only be used by non-combat players)

The big problem with this idea is that you're giving non-combat professions combat skills. Current combat droids are enough to protect crafters against minor every day threats (I still use my old 820 HAM probot to clear out all the desert deamons around my factories), and if they want to go anywhere more dangerous they need to either bring some friends along as protection (thus encouraging more grouping/social interaction) or pick up combat skills.

I usualy sign on around 7-8 in the morning est. My server is one of the ones without a lot of people on it and that early in the morning it would be a long task to hire help to come guard me while I put some harvies down on Lok. I'm a master SW, SE and merchant and I'm not exactly rich enough to go hireing people. On top of that, the really down side is going to planets like Lok without armor on, a majority of the NPCs there can one shot for over 1k damage so there is a high chance I wouldn't even make it surveying, speaking of that I would also need to hire help to survey? I don't care if the SBDs were just made to target only PvE targets and once they shoot a target you can't loot it. The bottom line is full crafters like myself are getting the shaft, for us it is not the combat upgrade it is the combat downgrade in a world where we already hae a lot to fear this upgrade will not help us one bit aside from making more of a money drain to hire help. Not everyone comes on SWG to kill stuff, should we be forced to shell out credits we don't have to hire help or forced to go into combat that we really don't enjoy? I think this would be a great idea for crafters to have personal body guards. Having armor didn't make crafters a combat class, it was a PvE defensive measure so we could roam freely around the galaxie with out fear of being 1 shot killed on the tougher worlds while collecting the minerals we need to craft with. Granted they could do something more simple like make some kind of crafters armor but I think AS is going to have enough to deal with when the CU comes out and DE needs a real place amoung the crafters. Kind of like an AS or a WS we have a real useable product that people need and request. I know an AS who has made 7 mil in a day of sales, I have never heard of a DE who has come even close. It at least seems like we should be as important when it comes to combat and having uber products that people need and reuse but all and all it seems like we are a sidekick to the greater professions, a little better than tailor but not quite useful as AS. If all the DEs disappeared from game tomorrow I'm sure a few people would send a ticket in, but if all the AS disappeared tomorrow the whole server would be sending in a ticket. We need to be more useful in the game.

Honestly, I never understood why this wasn't put in the CH profession. Well other then some CH's not wanting it. Droids are more Star Warsy then fluffy bunnies anyway.

Yes when the talk about higher combat Droids were brought up before many CH's were against it. However, since then CH's have become extremely rare now, since they were nerfed. It's quite possible that they may actually like the idea more now.

BE pets would still be good for tanking, and their state and DOT effects, Droids could be more for damage.

Honestly, the CH profession needs some love, and this is by far the easiest way to get them into the game. Perhaps Jenden should have a talk with the CH correspondant to see if maybe thoughts have changed at all.

I agree, the whole mini-game of finding a CH pet and taming and raising it is very cool. Thinking about trying it myself.

This gap is already bridged somewhat though with BE pets. If people want "better" pets, they already buy them. Granted they do still raise them and train them.

The Droid idea could be handled through quests, and you would still need to "program" them.

Doesn't seem to be so, posted a thread yesterday, 3 replys so far,all are contra CH BD's but for the DH

I'm totally against the idea of CHs being cert'ed for droids. Beyond my lingering distaste for the profession during the Pet Wars era of SWG, it makes no sense from an immersion standpoint to have have a creature trainer be skilled in the complexities of an artificially-intelligent technical being.

It would be the equivalent of having a dog trainer as a contestant on the "Battle Bots" show.

To be honest, this position hasn't changed in over a year. We've already proposed that 1)CH get combat droids -turned down 2) SL get combat droids -turned down 3) BH get combat droids-turned down

Everyone "seems" to want them added, but not to their profession. To be honest, I can't see them adding yet another profession without a specific defined role.

This goes back to a basic premise I've seen time and time again on these forums. Everyone wants "droids to do more", but either 1) doesn't want to be dependant on them to perform a skill,2) wants to gain a skill they would have otherwise spent skill points for,or 3) has the attitude of "not in my profession!"

I say we let the situation go as is and focus on creating 1) repeat business and 2) increased usefullness (not nessecerely in that order). Unfortunatly for some, increased usefullness wouldmean the same thing as owning a legendary weapon....and we can't really be dolling out that a completly unbalancing product of that nature to everyone.

Yea I agree JC,

I can honestly see why BHs and Squad leaders don't want them, some of them may not want to handle pets, and if that was added, they may lose something else. However CH's handle pets, that's what they do, it wouldn't be an alternate playstyle for them. They probably feel though that if Droids were added to them, they would lose some power or some other "love."

Honestly though, I think that CH would lose the least because Droids would simply be scaled in with organic pets. Pets or Droids are weapons, all that would be done is they would be scaled into the current system.

The name would need to change though lol, Creature Handler, just doesn't fit. Maybe "Minion Master" or something
