Thread: Droid Condition Decay Necessary for DE Economic Health

First off, I really don't feel like posting here and dealing with the flak some of you throw at everything. But some consideration needs to be given towards how we can have a reoccuring droid market.

If any of you been around long enough to remember the short period were pets that got DB'ed and sustained wounds (black bar damage), they lost some points off their max condition. This had no effect until the condition dropped to 75% of its original maximum condition, then the pet's HAM dropped to 75% of its original value. No change from there until the condition dropped to 50% then then HAM came down to 50% as well. Another step down occurred at 25% and then at zero, your pet was toast. During this period my pre-nerf probot adv went down to 88 condition.

If I remember correctly which isn't always likely, the CH's got this thrown out. Don't remember DE's having much to say about it. We were along for the ride since it seems this was common pet code running on the server and affected our droids as well as the CH pets. It makes sense that this doesn't fit CH pets. They are organic and self-healing. But it doesn't make sense for droids which are inorganic and must be externally repaired. It also makes sense for CH pets to regenerate damage (white bar damage) in the datapad. It doesn't make sense for droids and they should retain their stored HAM conditions just like vehicles do. This common pet code needs to be decoupled and allow CH pets and droids to be handled seperately and differently.

If and I mean IF we get combat droids (please discuss/flame that if we combat droids condition elsewhere), its essential that we get this condition decay back in for droids only (not CH pets). I can't imagine the general population accepting such condition decay on crafting or utility droids now. They've had their everlasting convience droids too long at this point. But they are conditioned to accept decay from battle related items such as armor and weapons. So IMO, they would accept it on battle droids. Without this, the market in combat droids will fall from an initial 2-week peak level to the low attrition rate of players on the server. IMO that's quite bad for business long term and I for one am tired of seeing that sort of burst and fall flat sales events.

Well.. I have to admit that I agree (somewhat) with this idea.

Everyone that has owned a vehicle (in real life) understands that over time, and with prolonged use, performance decays. The same is true of everything manufactured and used on the face of this Earth. Nothing, I repeat NOTHING, exists that does not deteriorate. Hence the reason that most Military assets are replaced over time... who here would want to trust their lives to a tank that was operated in the first World War?

In order for any 'virtual' economy to flourish, we need to realize that this should hold true here. ALL equipment, vehicles, droids AND petssold NEED to be replaced over time... if only because of natural aging. That is how an economy remains healthy. My personal view is that (withall things taken equally), repeat business should be largely due to "natural" deterioration... deterioration that would be "accelerated" due to events such as "prolonged combat".

It is great that we can get repeat business for things like health Stim-packs and the upcoming Drid Repair Kits... however, it is just "unnatural" for a droid to be returned to 100% effectiveness after having been damaged and repaired/rebuilt 50 times of more.

oh well.. just my .02cr worth

Total loss of annual revenue (SOE): ~$715US to ~$900US
- Bad press: Priceless
Should Sony and Lucas Arts be worried? (15000 users * 5 accts = ~$13MIL in potential lost gross annual revenue) If I were the CEO for either LA or SOE, I would certainly be worried.

I think that the decay method was either renamed or re-inserted under the name of "Vitality". Currently it seems like vitality is operating for droids as it is for creature pets. I agree with you that it should play a part in droid decay, but it would probably have a more significant effectif it were to deplete the stats at every 5 - 10%, with DEs having the option to make a consumable that would allow a Droid engineer to repair half the decay

Very well summarized, Arden. I'm with you 100%.

Personally, I'd still try to find some way to apply it to crafting droids as well. We need some way for all droids to decay with use, not just combat droids. One of our many problems right now is that once someone buys an R3 unit with all 4 crafting stations in it, they never need to buy another crafting droid again. Ever. That one droid will last them for as long as they keep playing.

Unless things change before it goes live, they're proving with patch 7 that they're willing to make radical and fundamental changes to existing droids. If they're willing to yank the armor off of all droids that have ever been made, surely they'd also be willing to make all droids decay in some manner?

I'd like to see condition decay on crafting/utility droids too. Fact it would eliminate my main objection to more utility modules. But I think all of us would get burned at the stake by the general server population for it. I can just see myself tied to a pole on top of a pyre of all the R3 ADV's I've sold people on Eclipse while all the people march around it shouting "Burn, Droid Engineer, Burn!" I don't think I'm up for becoming a smore and all that fiberplast would burn really hot. But if you guys think everyone would accept it, then okie.

Personally, I'm all for some sort of decay to help turnover droids...

However, this same type of decay or turnover needs to be applied to everything in the game, not just droids. This includes buildings, harvesters, clothing, furniture, and every other craftable or non-craftable player object in the game.

It's not just necessary for DE Economic health, it's necessary for SWG economic health.

careful what we ask for here, if things proceed in this direction as they have in the past, people will lynch us when their droid goes *poof* the 20th time they call it out

and we'll be told "you asked for it specifically"

what? I thought YOU knew how to get the caramilk into the caramilk bar.....

I agree with everything about droids needing to have a decay mechanism, even the utility droids. One thought I have on this issue though is that the droid shouldn't fall apart when its condition goes to zero. The reason I say this is because of the item and datastorage compartments. There would be no end to confusion, frustration, and complaints if the droid went poof while its storage compartment was full of stuff.

So I think that the droid's abilities, ham, and damage should decay over time but the droid should persist as an callable item in the datapad indefinitely (until the player deletes it)even if it has decayed to utter uselessness. Otherwisethe player may not always have time to retrieve stuff from the storage compartment in time. Whatever the mechanism is, it need to account for that I think.

Good point, Malitevv.

But it could "decay" to the point that customization wouldn't stick, it could barely move, and Droid Batteries no longer worked.

Hey, just a thought...

It sounds like droid armor now wears out in the next patch... If droid armor wears out, that means that your droid becomes much less effective and will need to be replaced, right?

Perhaps in the case of utility droids, overall condition could decrease w/ each use of a droid battery (until a certain point where they are destroyed)

Just a thought

Actually I think it's that Droid armour is technically supposed to wear out currently, and so we're getting new, lighter armour that doesn't wear out next publish
