Thread: The final, Respectful /bow....(?)
For those reading this thread (and wanting to post), I request that you do so in a manner that will not get it locked or deleted. If you have comments or thoughts, please ensure that they end up being constructive, respectful and to the betterment of the game...and not just a 'rant'. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
I'll besaving a copy ofthis post so that I can repost it wherever/whenever I please (or adding to it, as needed).
It's my hope that you'll leave it open so that others can respectfully and constructively discuss whatever topics thisthread might invite. While you might view it as a "Goodbye" thread (which it partly is), you'd be wise to view it as an opportunity to obtain quality feedback and perspective from those that choose to add their comments.
A good part of this was real-life not allowing me appropriate time, part was CU....errr 'stuff' (and other changes), part was just general boredom and frustration. I'm sure I don't have to tell you all the story, we've all read this 'book' before...
In many ways, SWG was the Star Wars game I'd always hoped to see. One part "Jedi Knight", one part XvT, one part "Baldur's Gate" and several parts that wouldn't just break the mold...but create'molds' that no one had ever attempted before. In some ways, it was...in others it fell far short. In other ways still, I feel like it never could be the Star Wars game/experience that I'd actually been hoping it might be all along.
I could provide one last 'Break-down(tm)' on what's led to this but I do not feel it will hold much weight, in the face of decisions from, and changes at,SOE/LA and the decision-makers at SWG HQ.Perhaps someday, those that manage this universe will remember, and act upon thepremise, that "warsnot make one great"....and that...IMO...
Creation is more difficult, challenging and rewarding than destruction for destruction's sake.
For now, I'll leave you with...
- Some things I enjoyed doing or was proud to accomplish:
- Taking part in the SWG release beta3 (Endor....how I'll miss ya!)
- Exploring the live galaxy with friends and building my first (and only) 'template'....MDE/MA/TKM
- Opening, promoting and building a successful droid business and providing thehighest-quality droids to hundreds (and maybe thousands)ofthe inhabitants of Ahazi (and later TestCenter).
- Working with 'The Fish'(tm) to create, build and manage the first and (to my knowledge) onlyinter-serverprofession consortium and'uber-guild'...in the "DEA" (Droid Engineer's Association).
- Doing my part to lead Droid Engineers into the forefrontby trying to bring together the DE community and help it to attain the heights it should have had all along (we're still not close to there yet)...
- Having the extremehonor of representing you all asa Droid Engineer Correspondent.
- Enjoying the experience and, yes, the notorietyof crafting the first Mandalorian armor item on any public server.
- Assisting in the galactic testing and release of Astromechsto bringdroid technology to space, during the JTL beta. For those that helped contribute to the "All Things Droid" guide, I thank you.
- I'm sure there's more....but I can't think of it right now.
- Some things I wish I'd accomplished:
- Obtaining all possible badges (I got a good number...but not as many as I'd have wanted)...
- Spending more time in higher end, 'Star-Warsy' content with friends that still played the game...
- Rising to the rank of padawan and fully discovering the Force (again, not just as destruction for destruction's sake)...
- Crafting a Mando helm for my droid shop...
- Participating in a GCW where droids were used in a clever, indispensible and not-just-killing-machine manner (unlocking locked doors, anyone?)...
- Realizing the correct and fun implementation of combat droids and other models...
- Some things I'd love to see happen (but don't think ever will):
- Droids mean something...like they are supposed to...
- Droids act like droids (i.e. 'mo betta AI')...
- Player actions matter more in the larger story arc and timeline of SWG...
- The return of a lot of people I enjoyed travelling the galaxy with...
- A more immersive Star-Warsy experience, which is based on much more than just destruction for destruction's sake...
- A droid engineering profession that allows one true freedom of design at all levels (wiring diagrams, blueprint design, modularity of droid chassis/parts, etc.). Not just new schematics or modules...but a droid 'Schematic/Module Builder".
- Some things I thinkthat could have been done better:
- Interaction with/of major, minor and EU Star Wars NPCs
- A better written and inter-woven series of plots, quests and storylines...some of which related to the larger (non-existant) plot of the Star Wars story.
- Better integration of space/ground experience, plotlines and so on.
- An actual benefit to encourage folks to roleplay more/better.
- A better play experience for all playstyles (not just combatants).
- Boardable capital ships, space stations and fully explorable new planets.
- Moving the timeline forward based partly on automated changes and partly on player interaction with the game world.
- A Star Wars game experience that relied more on how one used their mind...instead of just how one used their 'hate' (again....destruction for destruction's sake). In other words...a more elegant and intelligently immersive game/world experience.

Great post TK. Sorry to see you go. Your posts always draw me into and get me thinking about the subject at hand. You will be a great loss to the DE Community.

D*mn.
Just, .. d*mn.
Let me say that you were the model of the correspondent that I use to judge all other correspondents. Witty, concise, and unflappable.
You and all the other DE correspondents have been stunningly good - bar none. However, you were the DE correspondent I first encountered, so all others seem cut from your mold in my mind.
Godspeed, God Bless, and here's a toast to a hope of a future game we can all enjoy.

I'm really sorry to see you go TK, you're in a class all by yourself.
Fair winds and calm sea's!

Thank you for your valuable work on the DE forums. You truly are a great member for the DE community. I definitely share your feelings on why you have left the gameand understand why you are leaving and I can hardly fault your decision. I for one will miss seeing your posts.
