Thread: A few stupid questions.

My Stupid DE questions. No I'm not a holo grinder, yes I have read all the FAQ's. Yet still I have these questions.

Lots of things require a Droid Brain. When should I use an Advanced Droid brain? When is that worth it?

When does resource quality and experimentation really matter? It doesn't seem like for many sub componants it matters at all. At what level in the construction should I really start to use my good stuff?

Thx in advance.

Brains: They are not interchangable. When a schematic calls for an Advanced Droid Brain, you use one. When it calls for a normal droid brain, you use one of those.

Experimentation: Well, the final build should always be experimented. Apart from that, combat modules need experimentation, and some of the new modules we just got as well, though I'm not sure which ones yet.

Ok thx, yea I had just figured out the Brain issue, I was foolish and figured if it asked for a Droid brain, an advanced would obviously be better.

Thx for the experiementation tip, so jsut to be sure, I don't need to really worry about reosurce quality and such for the lower level componants?

Also, with the Armor modules, does the quality of your composite segment matter?

As you can tell today is my first day actually puttin Droids together, I have been spending most of my time building sub componants and getting resources, I didn't want to make a bunch of things then have them be useless after this publish.

Thx again.

Quality of the composite segments have no effect on the end result so any quality will do. You can get them in crates of 50.

On experimentation;

Medical Modules- no effect

Item Storage - no effect

Effect Modules - no effect

Craft Modules - no noticeable effect (not 100% sure if it affects craft stages)

Data Modules - no effect

Probe Droids - no effect

Seeker Droids - no effect

Barker Module - haven't made yet

Survey Droid - haven't made yet

Stimpack Modules - quality and experiment effect

Structure Maint Modules - quality and experiment effect

Harvest Modules - quality and experiment effect

Scout Trap Modules - quality and experiment effect

Final Droid Assembly - resources and experiment only affect HAM

Great, just what I needed. Ok how about the sub parts of the combat modules? I know the end clusters need it, but what about the modules or the brains that go in them? I am also a Master Artisan, so should I worry all that much about the quality of what I am using in the things like control units or electronics parts?

Actually just the opposite. The clusters don't need any experimenting. Only the combat modules need to be experimented on. Not sure if the brains affect the quality or not. Most of the subcomponents won't make a noticeable difference (if any)on the final item.

With Armor, I use 2xLvl 4 armor on R3s, R2 and Probots. This still gives you max armor of 20% Resists. The only Combat Droids you need Lvl 6 in is those that only have 1 Armor slot (eg The LE-Repair)

I find doing it this way keeps down costs as you don't need so many comp armor segments, and lets you keep the price of the 'High End' Combat droids to a resonable level.

Ok very cool, I think that answered most of my questions, but I am sure I will be back. My problem is now that most of my resources are "decent," I didn't spend a lot of time getting "crappy" ones.

For armor a lvl 3 + lvl 4 work as a lvl 6...saves you even more costs =) And I thought it was 40% resists? Or did they change it again? I can't keep up anymore.

A number of folks have run a number of tests which have led to some "conclusions" about the value of experimentation and resource quality in the construction of Droid Subcomponents.

To date.. there has been exactly one developer statement, about one module series(the crafting station modules) supporting the player-made conclusions that experimentation and resource quality are meaningless for a large number of items that we build.

In light of the lack of supporting statements from SOE SWG developers, I recommend that statements recommending against use of premium resources and recommendations against experimentation be taken "with a grain of salt".

There is little or no "proof", with the one notable exception above , that experimentation and resource quality have no effect of items that we craft.

Experiment on everything that you intend to sell
Use premium resources on everything that you intend to sell.

It is the only way to be sure.

Should Sony and Lucas Arts be worried? (15000 users * 5 accts = ~$13MIL in potential lost gross annual revenue) If I were the CEO for either LA or SOE, I would certainly be worried.

Well for me it's not that simple I guess. For example, I have 100k "good" copper. If I use that on everything, it will be gone quickly, who knows when something else "good" will spawn. So what I was trying to figure out was if I could use lower quality resources on some of the other things.

I have only been playing swg for about 2-3 months. Our guild needed a DE about 2 weeks ago, it was thenI started getting resources, so I don't have large amounts of resources. I need to spend what I have wisely.

Straker,

I appreciate your dilemma. Having to juggle resources against requirementsand payoff is always a tough call, as any real-world business owner will tell you.

If you have to ration your resources, then make the decisions that you think are appropriate. I only caution you to think rationally and take all freely given advice... yes, mine included... as exactly that... as nothing more than "advice."
