Part 2: The Whine

ARGH! I'm a new Droid Engineer, trying like heck to become competitive, but it's really hard when I can't find resources. Specifically, not being able to find Duralloy Steel and Lidium Extrusive is killing my ability to make top of the line droids. Neither of those resources has been seen on Starsider for over a month! Heck, 19% of the named resources haven't been seen in a moon! This is unacceptable in a game that charges me per month to play. I would like to urge the devs to take a look at the spawning tables, and perhaps take a little bit of randomness out. It's really rough when we need a named material for lvl 4-6 armor modules, but that resource only peeks its head out every couple of months.

I was wondering if other servers have resource breakdowns like this? I was also wondering if TK might be able to talk the devs into tweaking the armor module 4 schematic into taking any type of steel, so that even if a DE can't locate any ore, he can work twice as hard by putting in two armor modules, and still get a sellable droid.

Kettemoor didn't see Duralloy for 3 months or so.. then 3 different kinds spawned one after another.

I don't think I've seen Lidium in 4 months or so, but we've had 4 different Dioxis spawn in 2 months. Not sure about the other resource types.

HAHAHA...I just had a thought (scary isn't it? lol)

The developers and everyone is talking about Combat Balance...well, when will the crafters get crafting balance?

Someone who was here say 6 months ago and has the ore needed for a particular item to craft which spawned for 2 days 4 months ago has a much better upper hand on making something than someone who joined the game 2 months ago, is at the same crafter level and does not have the resource.

Now that I think about it, this pisses me off.

A character that has been in the game longer has an advantage. People can master crafting professions in this game insanely fast, the only thing that keeps things competative is the advantage of having been around to gather resources. There's always something you can sell, not having any of the named resources won't kill your entire business, they just limit it. You can still make 110 medical rated item storage with food/chem crafting R3's with no named resources, just can't have the storage, medical, and 4 crafting stations.

Think of it in more of a gerneral crafting sense, not limited to DE. A newcomer to the game has no chance of building the same business of someone who has bought all the ore off of everyone on the server and is not willing to sell it.

Granted things may be different on your server, but on tarquinas I know anytime a good resources for weaponsmiths/armorsmiths spawn, about half the server instantly has some 13 rate extractors on it. About the only crafting profession there is a resource shortage for is DE, and not only do you not have to have most of this stuff to make money, but when it does spawn one harvester should be enough to last you for 6 months or so. I think I've had 12k of lidium extrusive ore for about 3 months now, and I've used 6k of it total in that time (and I do sell quite a few droids).

You overstate. I was a newcomer a few months ago and I have built a strong business, so it is not true that a newcomer has "no chance" of doing this.

But you do hit on a useful point in a somewhat tertiary way. The dev's are very concerned about giving DE options that will unbalance the combat potential of the non-DE professions, but in constantly waffling and delaying have made DE horribly unbalanced relative to the other elite professions. They are slowly moving forward but have a long way to go IMO.

I researchedall the resources just to try to get a better picture of how our resources as a whole were appearing. I grant you, most of them are not very important, and one good spawn should cover a DE for a long time...provided the DE exists when it spawns, isn't on vacation, can get into the game for those few days, etc. The one that's really bothering me is the Duralloy. It hasn't spawned in nearly two months on Starsider, and I can't come by any amount of it by hook or by crook, and without it I cannot make a droid (even one that has two armor slots) with max resistances. It's killing any potential combat droid business I would have.

In my opinion, when theyput in a publish touted as being FOR a specific profession, it's obvious that many people will give that profession a try. To put insaid publish and NOT spawn (for weeks beforeor after the publish) the resources needed to make the most of the new features is simply asinine.

as far as the armor goes, two well experimented level 3 armor plates will give you max resists (or one well experimented one and one crappy one).

As for resources not spawning, I like that. It means there is something to look forward to, something new I will be able to make down the road. The resources to make T-21's didn't spawn on our server till february I think it was, and while many people did complain it also did breathe some life and energy back into many of the weaponsmiths I knew because there was something new for them to make.

OK, then I've been mislead by the other DE's who've told me that experimentation makes no difference on armor modules. I'll check it out, thanks.

Before publish 7 it was up for debate, but with publish 7 they follow the same format as all other modules, with an armor level on each module, and a total of armor level 11 maxing out the armor.
