The deal is (if it works properly,) You won't have to use MA parts to add basic coloring to a droid, as it's done when the droid is built... You only need to use MA parts to re-color droids.

And they're diligently working to make it this way, now??

The problem is, the entire "colourisation" part of droids is half-finished. Its obvious that the developer started work on them, but was then pulled away to complete mounts and didn't get a chance to implement the entire fuctions these tools were supposed to have. Evidence of this is the entire "colourisation has faded" notion that doesn't always work.

I've had a coloured R2 unit since saturday.. albeit I didn't get to call it sunday and monday, but it was called multiple times throughout saturday and tuesday and I didn't once recieve the "colour has faded" message. The colour has also remained the exact same colour I painted on the droid on saturday morning.

This proves the entire "it only lasts for 24 hours" theory wrong as well.

The problem with this tool isn't the fact that it uses a Master Artisan compoment .. its the fact that a device that only has a small amount of uses actually uses ANY component.

Look at items such as batteries. They are made purely from resources. The customisation tool should be the same .. no components, just resources.

An alternative to fix this tool (which I think is FAR better) is as follows:
A "Customisation Tool" requires everything they currently need ... however, this is simply the tool used for customising a droid ... this tool requires a "paint cartridge" to be used. A paint cartridge consists of certain chemicals and metals. The tool doesn't have uses .. instead, the amount of times it can be used is based on the amount of paint cartridges that have been loaded into it.

This means you will only need to make one tool .. but will need manycartridges.

The tool model should be replaced with something that resembles some kind of spray .. maybe even a mock-up of the medical stims.

Also, this "tool" should be a module that a droid can use, much like the repair tool so you could prgram certain droids to paint certain colours without having to select the colour each time ... basicaly a macro. This also helps promote the entire "droid programming" ideas that have been flowing around.

And finaly... a better system needs to be devised to remove the need for "/consent" each time. Instead, the DE should be able to set the colours and then press a button ... The droid owner can see the new paint andgets a box asking to accept or refuse the change. If they refuse, the change doesnt take place (the droids colours revert back) and the DE DOESN'T lose usage on the tool ... basicaly what I am saying here is that it should work just like Image Designers work on players.

Right, but as I said, we have thousands of droids out there with dull and identical coloring, and I'm trying to rid the world of them.

The point is, customization is a big feature for us, and the recoloring is only supposed to last for so many uses (very low, like 20 calls in/out of datapad) and this is just another interdependency that we have that other classes do not.

Most crafting classes have a few select or advanced items that require parts from other professions - like Architechts who need droid storage modules to add a FEATURE to their crafting stations, not require them in the huge amounts to perform basic functions and simply make the majority of our products.

The issue is that they just gave us yet ANOTHER place that we need MORE of these parts, and I think it was already out of hand.

I think this is an EXCELLENT idea.

Colorization and the fading of was implimented to give us a market after we make the person a droid. In my opinion thast like saying since a person wants to give probots away, the devs should remove all resource requirements. No, it was implimneted as a way for us to make money, so if it costs a control unit charge the component prices and a little above for a profit.

If you want to color for "free" tell the person to provide you with a Control unit or enough to just cover the cost of the control units.

I personally am glad it costs a control unit because then maybe DEs WILL stop doing this for free and further crash the DE economy.

Giving players the ability to see the pain and accept or reject it is great, but you still need /consent. Otherwise you can grief someone by constantly painting their droid.

See the paint, that is (stupid lack of editting).

Though I think if people could see our pain that would be pretty cool as well.

So, we finally got Droid Customization. Yay! It works - sort of.

I'm a DE that, like many, has been struggling with Master Artisan. I finally had to drop it because I was simply out of other skills to drop. I ran a LOT of MA parts, and have them sitting and waiting for use.

Eventually, I'll have to start buying them from people, which is fine - I've made my peace with that.

The problem is that they just added customization and it requires even MORE Master Artisan parts. Like we didn't already use enough, right?

I'd love to be able to color droids for free - I feel so bad that we've sold such ugly droids for so long. Especially when I see ones that I made. But with these control units required, I'm going to have to start charging for it, and it's going to make my burdon in having to buy MA parts even worse.

I'm hoping Sintrosi will just bring to their attention just how many MA parts we need as functioning DE's, and keep them aware of it. Something as basic as coloring shouldn't need it, IMHO - but I'd just really like to know that they are aware of the massive quantities of MA parts we go through, and keep in mind how much more interdependent we are as aprofession compared to other crafting classes. We don't just need them for a few select items like others, we require them as part of virtually every droid we make, and the customization requirements are just taking us one step further...in what I believe is the wrong direction.

Thanks all,

Well, I'm sorry that you don't agree, but I think you are missing the big point.

I was just talking about the present time in regards to "free" - yes, I can see this being a money maker after a certain amount of time. And I'm sorry, but Probots and coloring a droid for 20 uses are very, very different things. And it's not the amount of resources, it's that it needs something yet again from another profession.

However, I don't understand how people can be so OK with us needing MORE master artisan parts in general. Many of us are struggling with this, and regardless of your opinions on my motivations, it doesn't change the fact that we have the greatest burdon of any crafting profession when it comes to requiring parts from other professions. In my opinion, it's been unreasonable for quite some time and this just puts it over the top.

So again, you may not agree with my current reasons for wanting to color for free, I don't see how it can be denied that compared to other professions we are required to be many times more "interdependent" than other crafting classes. To be blunt, it's just not fair.

I can't imagine people paying very much for 20 uses of colorization, and don't think this has much of an impact on our money-making abilities. I'm sorry, but anything less than 5-10K profit is no better than doing something for free. If you are so worried about the DE economy, you can start with the fact that the Devs took away our #1 product saying it was overpowered and that anyone can use it - and then they gave the same product, with a different picture, to a combat class to sell with zero investment. The few credits one could make on customization pales in comparison to the true economic problems in our profession.

I don't see an issue with this.

I am currently Master DE/Master Artisan/Novice Architect, however, I wasn't always a Master Artisan. Before I hit MA I would buy MA parts off the Bazaar for 3k for a crate of 25. That seems more than reasonable. If you search the entire galaxy on the Bazaar you're bound to find several MAs. Give one of them a /tell and they'll be happy to supply you with parts. This is what I recommend to the Novice DEs that I train. It worked for me, it works for them, it'll work for you. Remember, Artisan is a profession too and they want return customers as much as we do.

As for the Devs taking our #1 seller away, I hated the Probot nerf as much as any other DE. However, I accept that it was needed. But I'm happy to say that Probots are still my #1 seller. Even more so now that I can give my customers that neon green Probot they've always wanted

I've found that I'm getting many more return customers now that batteries are needed and customers have the option of getting their droid repainted. In fact, I've made a few droid sales off return customers who have come into the shop looking for batteries and paint jobs. While they're there they look at the new stock and want to upgrade their R2 for an R3 or want to get a second Probot to bring out while the first is healing.

First, the point is that we require many more parts from other professions than any other crafting profession. Period. Several times over. It's more than forced interdependence, it's total dependence.

And yes, the Probot nerf was fine ON IT'S OWN. But when weeks later they gave pets with the same ability/stats/damage to a COMBAT profession to sell. Their reasoning was bunk - they said they took away our Probots because "anyone" could own one, then literally weeks later they turned around and gave pets with the SAME stats to everyone. A cowardly gurreck is a Probot that looks like a kitty. I have both - a pre-nerf Probot and a cowardly gurreck - they have the same stats. And they gave them to a COMBAT profession to sell. They took our buisness and gave it to a combat class.

It seems that you are a straight artisan - I am not. I had master artisan, but had to finally drop it so I could be minimally functional in combat and be able to participate in other things the game has to offer. It has made me keenly aware of how many MA parts we need - and it's just too much.

I go through hundreds of master artisan parts a day, and it's simply not as easy as you describe in practice. There are very few straight master artisans - most also have their own advanced crafting profession. It has been nearly impossible to find people that can supply the parts I need in a timely manner and consistently.

So you may not see the issue, but it's something that I, and many other DE's, have to deal with on a daily basis.
