Thread: Armor and Droids?

As always, I'm not a DE, and I'm just theorizing. However:

Off topic a bit, so I moved it to a new thread, but something here caught my eye.

There's a theory that "Medium" armor is actually AR2. (And presumably High is AR3 and Low is AR1) Wouldn't thisstatistic blockmean that the currently uber AR2 weapons should only do their normal damage against a probot, reduced by 90%if it's kinetic or electricity?

In other words, body armor for playerscurrently blocks damage in this fashion, as I understand it:
(Color Coded for understanding)
50% + EffectivenessVsType%= Resistance
((ArmorAR - WeaponAR) * 25%) =Damage Increase or Reduction for Armor Piercing

Damage +/- (Increase or Reduction) - Resistances = Post-Armor Damage

Hypothetical examples:
AR1Body Armor (20% Kinetic (Ubese?))
- Hit by -
AR2 GenericMeleeAttack
50 + 20= 70% resistance
((1 - 2) * 25) = 25% increased Damage
1000pt hit + 25% increase - 70% resistance = 550 damage

-and-

AR1Body Armor (20% Kinetic (Ubese?))
- Hit by -
AR1 GenericMeleeAttack
50 + 20 = 70% resistance
((1 - 1) * 25) = 0% increased damage
1000pt hit - 70% resistance =300 damage

-and-

AR1Body Armor (20% Kinetic (Ubese?))
- Hit by -
AR0 GenericMeleeAttack
50 + 20 = 70% resistance
((1 - 0) * 25) = 25% damage reduction
1000pt hit - 25% damage - 70% resistance =225 damage

This is more or less consistent with the combat spam analysis that the armorsmiths are doing, as I understand it. (Keep in mind, I'm not an armorsmith, and detailed analysis is beyond me to perform alone. Browse their forum.) Now, look at what this would mean for droids:

AR2 Probot Armor (40% Kinetic Effectiveness)
- Hit by -
AR2 GenericMeleeAttack
50 + 40 = 90% resistance
((2 - 2) * 25) = 0% increased damage
1000pt hit + 0% increased damage - 90% resistance = 100 damage

-and-

AR2 Probot Armor (40% Kinetic Effectiveness)
- Hit by -
AR1 GenericMeleeAttack
50 + 40 = 90% reistance
((2 - 1) * 25) = 25% pre-resistance damage reduction
1000pt hit - 25% damage reduction - 90% resistance =75 damage

-and-

AR2Probot Armor
(40% Kinetic)
- Hit by -
AR0 GenericMeleeAttack
50 + 40 = 70% resistance
((2 - 0) * 25) = 50% reduced damage
1000pt hit - 50% damage reduction - 90% resistance =50 damage

In other words, if this worked according to the current understanding of armor resistances, probots should be -much- harder to damage than a typical armor-wearing player under the current armor rules, making their low HAMless of an issue thanit iscurrently.(Of course, this STILL doesn't help with permadeath being enabled, but I'm hopeful that was a serious designfubar and not the intended final result...)

Is this a potential bug? Maybe. It's hard to say, sinceI'm not entirely sure how armor functions, andno one issure armor is functioning correctly, AND no one knows if droid/pet armor works as player armors do...

...but it caught my attention, and maybe you guys could work out some sort of test to verify how droid armor is working in relation to player armor? (keeping in mind the recent PvP damage nerf)

Just a thought. Got a few of your own on the subject?

Sorry, Kebinn.

I wasn't shooting to damage its readability, so much as I was trying to illustrate where/how/why the numbers changed according to the formulas as I understood them. (Truth told, I'm not even sure I got the formulas right...)

I'm of the understanding that droid armor is NOT currently functioning in the fashion it appearsit should. Combined with the HAM nerf, the permadeath, the inability to repair, and a large selection of bugs ranging from small and squirmy to large, scaly and covered in hair... well.. it's hard to test it.

...but I was curious.

Has anyone done an analysis of droid armor vs. player armor?

No... armor maxes out at Medium 40% with just 1 lvl 6 armor module. They don't stack beyond that.

Has anyonetried testingarmor with layers installed?

I am having an armorsmith create several Composite Armor Segments with different numbers and types of Armor Layers (Acid, Stun, Electrical, Cold, Blast, Heat) in a variety of configurations, including 2 or 3 layers of the same type to see if they stack in the Segment correctly.

I will post whether or not these increase the individual protections above 40%.

I was interested in trying that... but the armorsmith I hook up with is on a different planet most of the time, so it's hard to get it done. I would be very curious to see your results.

yes the armour dose max out at 40% currently but that was not the way it was intended to be the lvl 6 armour was to be hvy and the adv probot has slots for two of them! If they wont stack why the two slots?
