Thread: A question to all new DEs

I've seen a bunch of new DE posts around here recently, and a lot more droid tags on players in-game. I know a lot of these people are holo-grinders (the 20 other prof badges and constantly asking for training gives that away) but many of these are asking about how make droids and such. I have just one question to all you new comers, why did you choose DE? Are you interested in making a good career for a while? Are you just here to make a killing off of pub 8? Or are you just a jedi-grinder that wants to get the most of a prof before dropping it?

DE has facinated me since I started, I always wanted to make droids since I saw the first trilogy (a very long time ago). When I learned DE, I would get a level and try out the new stuff in droids to get the feel before grinding the next (which also gave me time to get the grind resources). I actually sold some decent droids at 2-2-4-4, then ground the rest of DE after getting the feel for it. I still have plenty of questions, I just experiment till I get the answer or ask someone who knows. Also, I started SWG only 2 months ago (the board date it off a little, started playing before registering on boards) and have mastered DE only 2 weeks ago, but I know a lot about making droids because of the time I spent experimenting and asking other DE's. I plan on keeping DE untill I stop playing SWG alltogether (I may make another character on another server if I get bored with DE, but I'll never drop it)

Just curious about the newer members of our fine (and buggy) profession.

For me it goes like this. I'm picking up DE soon myself. I created an alt with the intent of either going Doc or a crafting profession. I really couldn't decide on which one to get into so I'll break it down like this.

Weaponsmith-Dime a dozen almost. Most of the big names on my server have enough repeat, loyal business and the uber resources to keep well stocked quality vendors. For someone just starting out it would be kinda hard to get a foot in the door.

Chef-Loads of new ones popping up, mainly to get into the brandy market. Not something that really interested me either.

Armorsmith-Without the +2 experimentation most people won't touch your armor on my server. People have credits and are willing to spend them on the best possible product. Which is the armor sold by those with the 2 extra experimentation points.

Tailor-Never really interested me.

Architect-Same.

Doc-Didn't want to waste my time in starports buffing for $ when I could do other things. (I get enough of this type of business dealings with my Smuggler and rarely slice for the public, I've seen how some people treat docs and decided to stay away from it).

Which brings me to DE. I've long been fascinated with droids, I own quite a few between my two toons and thought it might be neat to check it out. Over time the will of most of the DE's on my server broke and quite a few of the original ones no longer produce droids. With this new publish there could be a large renewal of interest in the DE profession. With Artisan leading to the ship building profession in the expansion I can only imagine it requiring many different parts and components(like a droid). So I figured what they hell, give it a shot

I did it for fun really and it seemed a good idea at the time. But I discovered lazyness isn't a DE's best friend, that and I've grown to love making crates, and to like making more crates, and to live with making even more crates after them, and under duress I'll be persuaded to make a few more crates. I love crates by the way, if you hadn't noticed.

The new stuff should be fun to mess around with.

I had a hard time when I started this game, it is not at all newbie friendly. I started out in Combat and had some fun with that - still do.

One day I was bored so I thought I'd try Artisan. It was fun... shocked me I can tell you.

Now - what to do once you're an Artisan? Well, all my life I've been either an Electronics Engineer or Computer Programmer or both at once. Obvious choice really, Droids!

I'm not at Novice DE yet since I've only played the game for a few weeks and don't have the money/resources to do a lot of crafting, but I'll get there soon. To me, Droid Engineer is what I'd be if 'SWG' was the real world. It looks like a lot of fun, even if it is buggy

I'm here for the long haul, no way will I ever hologrind.

Well I will be the first new DE to say, that i am a holo grinder, I am a Rp'ier too, but my main aim is get my jedi since it is my favourtite thing about star wars, everything about jedi intrigues me as corny as that sounds. Anyhow I got De and weeped, seriously its not good for jedi grinding as I have only had the game 1 month, and this is my second profession, and i am trying to beat the system and get mine before the change in the works of jedi, something tells me i won't do it but I still will have a shot at it.

Well DE is most definetly not a short class, I am just coming up to my second box on it and I have been playing DE for about 1 week....admitidly I have had to wait for my personal harvestors to extract the resources as I am always low on money paying vendors and helping out friends. But unless you have millions going into this and a lot of time in one go, you will be doing it for a while. My suggestion is to do what i am and take up other professions to do alongside it so that you improve the chances of getting jedi faster.

And you won't sell any droids untill you get the better droids and better modules for them, and thats a lot of grinding out droids (takes nearly 400 mouse droids to reach the first level of boxes) I will just grind, and then when the update comes make myself a few combat droids for myself and my guild and then put a few on the vendors I have, and move on quickly. I have no love for this profession while others it captivates them I am more combat...and this is about as far from it as you can get.

I started mainly as a DE/sword character. Funny enough have MDE but not even sword 4 in brawler yet. We can see which one I've had the most fun in so far.

I myself just enjoy crafting more than any other aspect of the game other than the social interaction. I also think droids are pretty cool, so when I joined a guild that had no DE I offered to fill that gap. Right now I am only 2-0-1-3 but I am enjoying myself immensely figuring out exactly how to put together the best possible droids. Not to mention the 10 bazillion different parts we need to make. Hologrinders can come in and master in a day or 2 of solid grinding if they have resources ready when they start, I've take several weeks to get to the point I am at now. the grinders only need to make a bunch of advanced droid frames they get master, get a new holo and drop the profession. Anyone intending to stay in the business, like myself, should definately take their time getting to master. There are ALOT of components in this field and you really need to know what each one does and how experimenting on them will affect the final product. hope this helps!

For me electronic is my life and I always been fascinated by robots (Sorry Droids!). The only obvious choice was DE. I am a RPG player, so when I started playing the game (about 4 months now), I wanted to PLAY as a real DE. My plan was to approach the profession like a real profession (no grinding, I did it for Artisan), you start to make the MSE droids and sell them and move on to the next level…

This was a bad idea because as you all know the droids you can make at novice are useless. So I grinded to get 0-0-0-1. By then it gets a little better because you can make seekers and sell them. Now I am at 0-1-0-1 and I can sell seekers, droids reconstruction kits and R5 with combat module or medical module (Because an other DE in my guild gave me the modules to help)

The problem I see for the novice DE is that there is not enough Droids consumable for them to sell. Batteries are giving general crafting xp for artisan and you can only make useless MSE droids when you start.

I was happy when I heard the news about the Detonation Modules that would turn useless MSE into consumables. But these modules will only be available to Master. I understand that Master need a big bonus because the were able to get to this level but it would be nice for the novice to get like a Level l detonation module so you don’t have to wait to master to use MSE droid you got when you were a Novice.

How can you expect any DE do get XP when you can only sell Droids that are permanent? When a client gets a Droid with the modules for its profession, they don’t need to buy anything from a DE again (except combat droids) because droids are like diamonds, they don’t decay!

This is my 2 cents on this profession that I love anyway!

No no no, it is Jaded and Depressed.

It is really sad tho that you have to be master in this game to be able to sell anything. Novice in any profession that you are going to sell basically means no sells. Trust me other then my guildies buying from me directly mostly for chassis to drop in a house and the crate of seekers once in awhile. I get no sells when I hit master hopefully before this weekend I should have more sells since I can produce master level droids.

The game is balanced for being a master and nothing else even in the combat professions its the same. I wish it was not that way but it is.

Ill live and keep playing and maybe make a few creds after pub 8 who knows I might go the way as some of the others have and drop this profession, since my other crafting profession would been ship builder and it looks like we will get that when Space Expansion goes live. So till then ill be a DE till I get fed up or a better crafting profession come out.

For me, it is as simple as enjoying making things.

Of all of the things I could make here in SWG (and I have tried two other elite crafting professions looking for the best fit) nothing is more pure, unadulterated StarWars than droids.

I actually found that as a 2/0/0/3 DE I was able to sell quite a lot of droids. Just make up some Level 3 modules and away you go.
