I just tested this out. I've been trying to color my R3 since last night with no success. After reading a post where someone claimed to successfully color a new R unit I made a quick R5 unit and tamed it, changed it's colors and stored it. When I called it out the trim color had changed properly but the body color was messed up. Changed the body again and stored it. Called it out and the trim was still right but the body color was wrong again, though it was a different color. Tried the body one more time and this time when I called it the color was right.

So I've needed to upgrade my poor R3 for a while now. Went home and made a new Advanced R3, colored him, tamed the deed, and boy were his colors wild. It was like someone dumped a big can of the 60's all over him. Stored him and called him again. New wacky colors. Stored him again and called him again. Even more colors. At this point I colored him (I didn't think to try a fourth time to see if his shifting colors would eventually 'stick'), stored him and called him....

SUCCESS! I now have a black R3 with silver trim.

Stored him and called him several more times, no problems.

Decided I didn't like Black and Silver (because there's white trim as well) so I recolored him to a sort of cold with silver trim. No problems.

So, the long and the short of it seems to be that you can get the color to stick to those 'uncolorable' units if they are post-patch. The only problem is that until you color them they seem like they will have random (and usually ugly) colors.

There's probably more experimentation to do. Do you need to store and call a droid three times before you paint it? If you don't paint it will it keep changing colors forever? I don't know, yet, but maybe someone else can find out.

I just tested this out with a newly constructed Adv R4 unit and the color does in fact stay.

So it appears that only post-patch droids will keep their color, except for the "frame coloring" only droids like the probot, repair droid, etc.

Has anyone had colorization stick to a pre-patch R2 unit?

Or a droid tamed from a deed made pre-patch? (but tamed after)

DZ70s work.

Any Surgicals should work (only verified on Adv. models)

Any Probots should work (only verified on Adv. models)

MSEs? Who cares.

BLLs should work

R-series (status known on all models)

Just poted this on my other topic:

I made another adv R3, colored the chassis like I wanted and the body color came out fine but not the trim). I stored it, took it back out and this one was also giving me random colors evertime I called it.

However: I then colored it with the new tool and stored it. And the color stuck! Ive stored it numerous times and the color is still the same as I did with the tool.

Has anyone tested this out with an R5 or something? Something that dosnt use a chassis and didnt work yesterday, but may have after todays hotfix? Or is it just the adv/chassis models?

This is an update to the "random color when you call it" of the adv R3's (and others?)

New Mouse droids color -- at least the trim does. The frame appears to color, but doesn't really seem to change much.

I haven't had one stick Mightion.

I tried on about 12 different R2 units, all of which were pre-patch, and all were in Deed form when I started.

I made a Mouse, an R4, and an R3 this morning, and the color stuck on all of them, though it took 2 or 3 attempts on each one.
