Thread: I just bought a tank droid =/

I bought a droid labeled "tank droid". I opened it up and tried it, and the droid starts shooting and stuff. I try to talk to it, and convince it not to engage in ranged combat, because it was supposed to be a tank droid. No luck there.

Question: Are there any combat droids that engage in melee?

The reason I bought was for it to attack the lair and pull the enemy towards it so I could fan shoot them all at once. Instead it starts running all over the place.

I think you might have bought it off my vendor. I assume it's an Adv R3 with 1 combat module and 5 auto-repair modules. Sorry, if it was misleading. It's called a Tank Droid because it has several auto-repair modules installed allowing it repair itself quickly, and therefore it can last longer in combat. I can make an Adv LE Repair Droid into a combat droid and these do engage in melee combat. However, these don't hold as many modules as the Adv R3 droids, so they cannot hold as many auto-repair modules. If you don't group with the droid then the droid can go into combat first and take the aggro, when you're grouped the whole group is aggroed.

Look, I'm not blaming anyone but myself... nor am I moralising (spelling: moralizing?). There are lots of good things with the droid I bought, it just doesn't serve my needs atm. But I'm sure it will be useful further on.

I'd like that other one, though... sounds like a nice lil droid. Do I get a 10% discount 'cause I'm such a faithful customer?

Just kidding.

If you can make another droid for me, I'd be more than happy to pay for it.

You're supposed to be able to issue a command to R-unit combat droids that tells them to use ranged or melee mode.

Unfortunately, they broke this with one of the mini-publishes a while back, and we're still waiting for it to be fixed.

First of all, are you on Sunrunner? If yes, then I will gladly make the Adv LE Droid for you. I just assumed you bought the "Tank Droid" from me (thats what I name mine), since I remember selling one recently, along with stims and batteries. I use to use an Adv LE Droid with 1 combat module, 2 auto-repair modules and a sarcastic personality chip. It was funny as it would "talk smack" in combat.

I call mine "Tank" Droids as well. lol, so maybe it was on Scylla.

You should be able to just tell it to attack the lair, then because it keeps hitting the lair, all the critters will attack it. Then you just stand back and shoot them. I use mine all the time for that.

I sell Probot "Tank Droids" on Lowca. It is a Advanced Probot with 5 auto-repair modules and level 6 armor.

This is the best tank droid in my opinion. Sure, the ADV R3 can hold more modules, but the thing is slow and need one of the modules to be a combat. And yes, the LE Repair has more HAM but it is slower than the R3.

-The Probot has inherent combat abilities, so no need for a combat module.

The droid does very little damage. This helps keep the XP loss when using the droid to a minimum. I usually stand 70-80m away from a lair and send the droid in to attack one mob. Once the droid has hit the mob once, I send the follow me command. This will pull the mob, and any "friends", right to me. If the droid pulls too many, I send the attack command again and run off. I can't tell you how many times this has saved my life. The droid is also good for slowly milking a lair. Set it to attack and just kill the mobs as they spawn out. If the lair spawns a boss (like an archne queen and a bunch of minions) and it is too much for me to handle, I just run away. The droid should have aggro.

-The Probot has 5 module slots, giving it a 112 auto-repair rating with my current resources.

It doesn't take too long for the droid to completly heal itself. And if it needs some help I just hit is with a droid repair stim. I just wish it didn't eat so many batteries.

-The Probot is a flying droid...giving it speed on the ground.

I would much rather have a faster droid and sacrifice the extra HAM a LE Repair has.

The only downfall that I can see to using a probot as a tank droid is the reason MousePad bought his for...to attack the lair and stay close to the lair.

Not *THE* mousepad from D2 are you?

Anywho, here's a little trick to ensure that your R3 will do melee instead of ranged. Before you attack the target (or the target attacks you) send the droid in the the "follow target" command. Wait until the droid is with about 2-5 meters of the MOB, then have it agro. It will default into melee tank mode, rather than run-around-and-get-your-master-killed mode. This works the same way for probots. If you get them close enough they are sure to use the melee-tank tactics.

Or you can use an LE-repair droid.

what i do, when i want my r3 to tank in melee mode (i'm a rifleman btw) is i stop 60 meters out, pick a target in the mob have the droid follow taget (droid is not grouped with me) when its right on top of em give him your attack command. r3 does melee attacks and is the only thing agroed. When a droid is fighting ranged it will move around to find the best range to attack.

I also label my droids "tank droids", including simple DZ-70 without any modules.
They can be used by ranged weapon classes for tanking purposes. Just target the victim, let the droid attack, and the start to shoot away.

I also label my ADV R3's with 1 combat module, and 5 auto-repair as a "TANK DROID". I'm on Kauri server. I bet most DE's label that droid as such.

Im on Lowca and i too have a model called Tank which i used an LE droid with ham at almost 6k.Its the highest ham droid but along with it I sell droid repair kits that heal at 1400 to 1700 a pop just like a stim.LE droids will go hand to hand which make it good for hunting lairs and when it needs repair just repair it yourself.I've played with them all and a Tank droid definitly needs melee and not long ranged or its no longer a tank droid.Just D & D the Tank is theguy with the sword or axe taking the beating in the front, not the archer in therear shooting arrows. One thing I have noticed though is most ppl who arent DE's dont know what repair kits do.When the main DE publish came out a year ago, only DE's could use them but then they fixed it so I dont know if that has anything to do with it but word needs to get out about these repair kits.I mean we use stimpacks on humans, and pet stims on animals, and repair kits on droids. If ppl learn about these it will make tanking so much easier. But for regular combat droids i use the R3 ADV with 6 combat modules which give me a combat rating of 618 which isnt bad and can help give out damage but they dont have as high HAM as the LE.Probots are in the middle of the two and I stopped making those.
