Anyone know the originof the name for this droid?

WED? Is this a kinda "tip of the hat" to Walter Elias Disney and his "WED" company (i.e. the WEDway people mover)?

Anyone know?

Just curious.

BTW, am I the only person who uses the WED Treadwell as my main droid?

Everyone runs around with their R-Series droids and their Probots. I show up in the cantina with my tusk plains cat and my WED droid. It's my droid crafting station droid. Best droid I ever made.

The WED Treadwell has been around for decades now, due to the fact that they last, and they are cheep, also they are manufactured by one of the biggest names in the buisness Cybot Galactica. The name of the droid comes from its way of locomotion which comes from its two wide treads that are driven by a series of ten wheels. The droids drive system and its low center of gravity makes it almost impossible to topple over. The most famous part of the droid is its array of manipulator arms. These apendages are normally folded up close to the body like the limbs of a spider. When the droids are shipped from the factory they are shipped with only five limbs and sometimes only four but there is still room for six or more. Each of the droids apendages is designed for a specific job, that includes: arc welding, fine manipulation, electric rewiring, and spray painting. Gybot Galactic encourages buyers to mix and match arms to make their droids more efficent. Each of the WED Treadwell droids comes equipped with a visual sensor and an acoustic signaler that is capable of communicating only in binary. The droids pair of video microbinoculars are mounted atop a central telescoping stock. The repairing of the WED Treadwell is an easy step-by-step process, and is one of the reasons that the droids are so widely accepted, but there are some users that complain Cybot Galactica should have concentrated on making the droids less likely to need repairs, and they argue that the droid is frustratinly flighty and needlessly glitch-prone. A big part of the problem is the fragility of the manipulator arms. These arms are purposely built lightweight for precise work, but the limbs do often become jammed by grit of snagged on protuberances as the droid rolls down narrow passages. In the latter case there is a better-than-average chance that the limb will snap off before the droid even realizes it should stop, and the droids simplistic intelligence modules also cause many headaches, and this is proven by the fact that the droid can sometimes make rookie mistakes like grasping electrified leads without using their insulated arms. Even to dispite its drawbacks the droid is a perennial bestseller, and can be found on almost every world from the halls of the New Republic to backwater worlds such as the Tatooine moisture farms to the crowded military installation hangers on Coruscant.

I think a lot more people would use this droid if they added some animation to all those arms!

I personally like the WED (Mine has the original repair module in it - not that it gets much use!) I also have a barker module in mine (which I feel bad about since it should actually be able to 'talk')

My only complaint is that the WED in SWG doesnt have the horizontal dual macrobinocular 'head' that I've seen the WED equipped with (not sure if I saw this in the essential guide or the one in Episode IV) which I think looks much better that the single 'eye' our current WED has.

I'd like to see some animation on the arms but I'd settle for the ability to use it to actually repair stuff (like speeders/harvesters/spaceships) and 'no' the auto repair module doesnt count (personally, while I like the ability it grants, I dont think this module 'fits' in with droids or SW technology very well at all)

i'm just a DE 1-1-0-1, but i have a regular Treadwell droid named (Spidey). he has no modules of any kind in him. i just like to call him in larger cities and have him follow me around since no one ever seems to have seen these droids, so i get tells all the time asking what it is.
