Thread: Hey all! Any tips for a complete DE newb?
Hey guys!
I've decided to venture into the land of droid engineering for something different.. I haven't done anything past Engineering III or IV before (and beta was a much different world!)!!
Anyway, I've made it to good ol' Novice Droid Engineer and am a little scared. I'm not sure what to make, since those little mousers only give me about one hundred xp or so! Yikes!! I was also disappointed that factories don't give -any- xp anymore! I thought they gave reduced xp. Ouch. Yeah, I'm behind the times in trade skills. I usually skim those posts. ![]()
Now I know DEs apparently don't make any or much money (how much do you guys make anyway? Any chance of even cutting your losses as a newb?) but I'm doing this for something on the side anyway (hey, I've got Novice Commando, so why not make droids..? hehe).
Anyway, I am babbling - if anyone has any tips to get me started or on how to get moving in DE or which trees to go up first (still deciding on if I even will go to master - how big of an advantage is that?), please let me know!!
Thanks!
I ran a quite successful powerup business for quite some time before I began selling droids. This gave me the opportunity to learn, and let me afford to grind to a point where I could make droid people would want to purchase. Over time, I switched emphasis, until today I rely entirely on droid sales to make a living.
And I DO make a living, a decent one. I regularly log in to more vendor sale emails than I know what to do with. I've got more than enough money for my daily needs, and I've got enough put aside that I expect to be buying a spaceship as soon as they come out, even if I were to retire right now.
as a complete newbie DE, I suppose the following advice will come in handy.
1) You can make a signwith a droid customization kit and some cardboard that reads "Will craft droids for food"
2) Cantinas are a great place to sleep at night
3) Eating food is more important than powering your droids. They can always get their battery 'fix' later. They'll just have to suffer withdrawl symptoms until you can provide for them again.
Alright, that should do it. hope those suggestions help matey
You will also need to be a Master Artisan as a heck of a lot of subcomponets come from Master Artisan. Pretty much every DE is also a master artisan
the XP is very slow for DE compared to other crafting proffesions. Go up to Blue Prints 2 and make adv droid frames, those give ya like 500 or something. So far I have been using those to level. I am not 3-2-0-4 and I can make pretty much everything. I am failry happy at this level.
Start looking for extrusive ore now, you will need it once you get BP2. If you can find a spot plunk down a harvestor and try to get about 10k or it or more for yourself.
You will need lots of steel and fibreplast for the adv frames.
Sadly, it seems my only hope is to put Rho out of business. We are on the same server.
just kidding.
I am just beginning the discover what Rho just said: the only thing I can produce in large enough quantities to sell regularly is resources. I am DE 0/0/0/1. I don't have a resource biz running yet but I can produce 10k+ in a night and am slowly accumulating.... While I wait to get a solid resource base, I do faction missions with friends or solo.
My personal suggestion is go for MA like most everyone does, but also pick one weapon type that you really like and go out and fight to get your skill in that one weapon into the novice level of one of the elite combat professions. Whether you go further than that is up to you. But once your are at least that good with a weapon, you'll be able to solo faction missions for over 1000cr a pop, and can use that as a way of making extra cash when you are low on cash. I can typically make 10,000cr in one hour of solo missions. Be wary of the "creature lair" missions unless you are in a group. They certainly can be solo'd but are very unpredictable and take a lot longer to finish solo.
For grinding purposes, switch to Advanced droid frames as soon as you can get it. They are rather heavy in resource requirements, but they pay off quicker. I would suggest just practice mode for them, you'll be making crates of them when your business picks up.
Hey Matt, can I get a stratics T-shirt? ![]()
Yes, you really have no choice but to make lots and lots of mouse droids at novice. I too don't like grinding just for the purpose of grinding. I play my game the way I want to play it: exploring the galaxy with friends and looking for ways to help my faction and guild along the way. I make droids when I feel like it and when people want them from me.
But I usually only sit and truely grind when I am stuck waiting 10 minutes for a shuttle, or stuck healing in a med center or cantina.
You have to do it sometimes. Think of it as your character tinkering with his equipment because, well, he's a DE, he likes tinkering with his droid making equipment. But whether you've got an in-game purpose for it or not, it's still gonna be grinding in the end. No one has a use for the many many 100s of mouse droids you're going to have to craft before you get the first 48k of droid crafting xp. At that point its up to you, but it seems, if you want to grind, going up the blueprint track first will help you get the schematics that give more xp quickly.
The other tracks will give you more modules to put into your droids.
But at blueprints 1, you'll finally get a seeker droid (which BH's apparently need) and you'll get a droid that can be used for combat.
Thanks guys!! Sounds like a tough road ahead. Well I'm not in any hurry, so that's okay.
You can have a Stratics t-shirt if you give me a billion credits!!!! hehe. I don't have any to give. ![]()
Thanks guys.
Just a few things I want to make clear: money isn't an object (I sell resources!), andI don't powergame and hate grinding (I'm okay with it taking longer).
Do I really have to get master artisan or can I possibly buy the components I need? I really can't afford to master artisan at all.....
What do I do to get to blueprints level 2? Just make mouse droids forever? That's going to take foreverrr! ![]()
You can feasably buy the MA components, but I think I read something like 41 of our schematics need MA parts. So if its not a question of how much, its a question of how many.
On your second question yes grind mouse droids. Its slow, its painfull but we all did it.
I see. Well I guess I'll see my next box in a few weeks or so. Lol.
Where do I go from there? Just keep grinding the mousers or move up to the next droid and grind that?
