Thread: Revive Issues (Candidates for Doc dev list?)
Hello,
This certainly isn't a "Top 10" kind of issue for Docs, but nevertheless it is an issue, at least IMHO. When people die, often they clone before I can even tell them that I can revive. Most players seem to still not know that Docs can revive, and those who do often don't wait long enough to see if a Doc is around.
I'm thinking it would be nice if the game wouldn't even bother to give players the option to clone for like 1 minute, or even 30 seconds, after they die. It's not that big of an inconvenience to players to sit there a minute after dieing, before they can clone (well ok, in PvP it might, because that is a minute the other players have to get to the clone facility to grief you while you load *sigh*), but it would give Docs a chance to /tell the player that they can clone them.
Also - consent issues. If I don't have consent from a player who needs to be revived (which is the case 99% of the time), couldn't we at least get a popup that appears on the dead player's interface when we attempt to revive them that says "XX offers to revive you - will you consent? [Yes] [No]" where Yes and No are buttons they can clickon which give consent to XX, and XX is the name of the Doc.
I really like the idea to not allow them to clone thru the GUI for 30 seconds. A lot of people are going to be VERY against this because of PvP, which I can totally understand. For those people, allow a /clone nearest or /clone predetermined command that they can use at any time (even during that 30 seconds you can't click on the clone ok button) and let them clone.
I also VERY MUCH like the idea of the revive popup.
Personally I think that cloning does not have anough negatives as it is (beyond Insurance, which is off right now, and the new idea of item decay). I think a 30-60 seconddelay timer, especially in PvP, is downright needed.
OverallI do rather like these suggestions as well.
As for te distress signal idea, no thanks. Admittedly I can ignore such a signal, but it's bad enough now taht someone will do a search and if I forget to change my title they'll beg me to come out to them and give them a Res, even though they may be 6000m away and I'm in the middle of something. These guys are persistently anoying. Add in some annoying indicator and it doesn't help. Not to mention you might raise the expectation of the player sending out such a signal that somebody might actually come Res them, when it's just not likely to happen. So I'm not too keen on that particular idea. (Sorry.)
Well, Zarlor, when I was thinking of the distress beacon, I wasn't really thinking someone 6km away lol. I'm thinking more along the lines of 200m or so. That way, if you receive the distress beacon, you know they are close by. Oh well though, like I said, that was just an idea. hehe.
As far as cloning issue. I think that if you clone when you haven't, umm, cloned (that is, you didn't pay 1k cloning fee), you should *always* stand up with like 5 HAM lol. Those who have a registered clone should take like 50 wounds each time they clone. Then cloning would actually mean something. Paying for a clone would still be advantageous, but wouldn't completely cut out medics/docs, because after you died a few times, you would accumulate enough wounds that you really need a heal.
Wow this forum software is slooooowww.... no I didn't mean it, don't lock the thread! ![]()
I completely agree with the confirmation box. Best part is they can use the group invite code, right down to the options box to always refuse the res. Somebody add it to the big list.
And as far as a death penalty goes, there hardly is one. People use it as a quick way to get back to town, or to go covert for trades. Incap is much worse than death in PvP.
Cloned death should bring you back at full HAMs, but after a delay worse than incap, and maybe with a dizzy state. Uncloned death should bring you back with at least 2/3 wounds, and some kind of sickness.
