Ok first off, I am a respected member of the SWG community, and I like to help those who aren't aware of game exploits that may be getting hurt by them. So I log in, I happen to be on dantooine, and I see a doc (sorsa) spamming for buffs asking for only bank transfers. Being the nice guy that I am, I have been warning all of the docs I meet about the little scam where you forward a message from someone who has tipped you and change the names etc. I do this by sending them a fake transfer then, if they fall for it, I explain how it works and how they can avoid it then I usually pay twice their normal fee for their trouble. Well I commence with the fake transfer and wait, and wait, I asked Sorsa if he knew what had happened and tipped him 12k (his price) and waited. He tipped back my money and started raving about how I tried to scam and said "you won't get any buffs from me, I have told the admin's about you, and all the docs I know"

Now, hindsight is 20/20, and I realize now that I could have gone about it better, but that was a bit of an overreaction, more than a bit, he freaked out in my book, I understand he thought I was really trying to scam him, but most doc's are good natured about it, and most of them thank me after I explain the scam. I realize that docs are getting constantly bombarded by tells, and maby my methods were not the best. but I think one would be a little more understanding about it. Well, Sorsa, you will not be buffing anyone in my guild, and I have put an alert about you’re rudeness to all of my friends, you really should try being a little kinder to people.

Well, from now on, Sorsa is on my Ignore list, I won't be paying him for anything, perhaps I should change my methods, just ask them, instead of prove the scam works, well, leave it to one selfish rude person to ruin it for everyone, sheesh

Yeah, a game and I'm not paying $14 a month to be a social worker or a teacher. Not my job to teach all the Leet Doods out there how to play nice, nor is it my job to socialize them. I play the game to relax, not get even more annoyed. If you're willing to put up with ignorance, be my guest. Educate the masses. As far as I'm concerned people who irritate me are only an /addignore away. I just wish I could do that in real life. -- Eiredrake

Your heart's in the right place, sorry this happened to you.

I do believe the scamming is impossible now though. I'm not a doc myself, I don't deal with bank tips as frequently as docs do, but I am a tailor, so I do sell things. Sometimes my customers bank tip. I've noticed recently (maybe since last patch?) that all my bank tips have the word "bank" where the sender's name usually is. I don't recall seeing patch notes about this (but then I only skim those anyway )

Seems like an overreaction on your part as well. I understand what you were trying to do and I’m sure it was for a good reason but look at it through the doctor’s eyes for a second.

You sent him a fake bank tip and then, after he found out, you went on how to explain that what you did was an exploit and he should be careful.
To him, it probably seemed like you were trying to get your way out of scamming him.

*Sigh* Not a clue how to edit *Sigh*

Anyway, my above post confused me once i read it over, so let me try that second paragraph again.

You can only edit when you're aub3r 1337 community veteran (i.e. people who spend too much time on the boards).

I think it's 100 posts and 6 months registered or something like that....not 100%.

Edit: Oh ya, your methods are admirable but if he's getting 20 tells a minute then it's doubtful he/she really had the time to process what was happening. Maybe try and talk to that person later to try and work it out. If they're still a jerk then your methods were at least successful in ferreting out someone you don't want to deal with in the first place.

Yes, I believe you had good intentions, however the delivery could use some work..

Perhaps you should ask if they know about it next time and then demonstrate for them if they wish.

/shrug Sucks cause you are trying to do a good thing..

as far as i was aware its pretty impossible to do this bank scam anymore anyway! If someone bank tips you it comes up on the email saying from "bank". So an easy way to spot if someone is trying to scam you would be to look at the email and it would say their name. Unless the players name was "bank" it would be pretty hard to do. I also believe the devs have banned the name "bank" incase anyone tries this lol. to be honest though i dont think i would appreciate anyone "helping" me in this manner! Although i can see your good intentions, when im buffing i usually have several tells to deal with as well as checking mail and lines, the last thing id want is someone trying to school me on how to spot a bank fraud.

my two cents

While I can appreciate you had good intentions, you were foolish in your actions then and now.

If you had thought about how your actions would appear to Sorsa, it would have been readily apparent that it could only look like you were trying to scam him and then bluff your way out of it with a 'good samaritan' tale. Sorsa acted exactly how I would have acted.

In addition, despite acknowledging yourself that you can see that you could have handled things better, you now try and besmirch Sorsa's name on these boards and you defend your actions by saying that your intentions were good. I don't want to be rude, but you need to get off your moral high horse and take a reality check.

In all fairness, he did say hindsight is always 20/20 and that he could've and probably should've gone about it better. Up until this doc, he said that all had been good natured and thanked him...why wouldn't he do it if no one ever complained about it? I think he needed this experience to open his eyes to allow him to see that some people either don't understand his intentions, or just aren't in the mood.

Of course you are right, I posted this Immediately after it happened, and I had a bit of "tunnel vision", I didn't like the tone he used with me, and I was a little upset anyway, so when he accused me of trying to scam him, I became annoyed, after all, in my mind I was thinking "well, I am trying to help this guy and he freaks out like this?!?!" I did not clear my mind and look at it from his side, I just responded in anger, without even thinking how it looked to him.

I have decided that, since the new patch, it says "bank" instead of the name, so there is no need to warn anyone anymore, but if I ever need to I will just tell them about it outright, instead of demonstrating first.

Ahem .. and I would like to apologise for the tone of my post. I was just re-reading it and decided it was harsher in tone than i intended. I still believe that you over-reacted (which you have agreed with), but I did want to emphasise that I appreciate you had good intentions.

In all honesty, if I were in his place, I would have done the same thing. All he knew at the time was that you sent him a fake bank tip, and you didn't say anything and you were waiting for him to fall for it. After you explained what you were trying to do (after he caught the scam), I would have thought that you were just trying to get me to forgive you. Plus with the way I handle my No Heal list, you and your guild would have gone on it anyway. I would probably have announced that due to a scammer (not mention a name), I would not be buffing anyone else.

Sorry, but what Sorsa did is exactly how I would have handled it. I don't think it's rude to be upset when someone tries to scam you, and at the time you were trying to scam him. This seems like a misunderstanding that went too far, andyou need to acknowledge the mistake appologize. Just because most doctors are good natured about it doesn't mean that all of them are. Anyone can have a bad day, and if someone tried to scam me, I would be having a bad day.

so does this scam actually look like a real bank tip? Wouldn't it say from "XXXX" instead of from "bank"?

Also, I read in another post about people doing /emote tips you 10000 credits and I meant to try it out and see if it looks believable. Has anyone seen that?
