I'm a master doc that should probably know better, but I was just wondering what benefit there is to having a hospital.With the exeption of a slow BF/Mind wound heal, it seems like a +110 medical droid is better.

Am I missing something?

Thatsthe problem. there is no benefit..

Besides decent item storage.. and.. well.. you could have a medical center named after your likeness, etc..

Can you place it as a master doc, or do you have to be a politician and place it in a city?

I believe you only have to be a master doc to place it.

Yes it has to be in a player city,

and it can be placed by a Master Doc or Master CM

Hospitals are placed by Master MD's or Master Combat Medics and they take 3 lots only. I love my hospital and all the guild folks come into for healing if no one is around and it seems to heal pretty quickly as well. Of course that nice 200 item count is lovely.
