Thread: Solution to possible buff nerf...

How about this: If buffs are going to be hit with the big ol' nerf bat, why not just cut the duration in half? Make buffs last 1 - 1/2 hours. That still gives players enough time to get where they are going and do a dungeon. It doesn't totally screw over the player by not giving them enough time to do anything, and it doesn't screw the docs by making buffs less useful than food or spices.


And as an aside, for the armour nerf, they should only make it for PvP situations. Reduce the effectiveness of the armour by 33 - 50% (Like PvP damage is caluclated now).


Thats just my idea.

I don't see this working.. it would double the number of times people need to go looking for docs in order to receive buffs.. you think the lines are long now?


I can see this being much more despised than a simple enhance value reduction... By reducing value.. you can try to balance damage issues, etc.. by reducing time.. you are only changing the play experience.. not the underlying issue of balance.

Right now, in the mythical Combat Revamp, doc buffs are going to take a hit. I'm just saying that it would be better to take a hit in duration not power. Because if we take a hit in power, we will lose a hell of a lot of business. (Will people wait 1/2 hour in line for a buff that only increases HAM values by 750 -1000?? Even if it is the only game in town?)

The combat balance will not just change how much buffs enhance for.. There will be other factors involved as well.. I have a feeling we are going to have to change our entire mindset about how buffs work and how the number come into play..


Basically..what I am trying to say.. is that I bet a 750-1000 point buff will be equivalent in gameplay abilities to a 2500 point buff is now... People will wait around for a buff that is 750-1000.. You know why? Cause everyone else is doing the same thing.. and you wouldn't dare go out and throw down.. with 750 less HA than everyone else..

Right

There is just too much speculation, not enough facts, at this time to be able to say buffs should be cut in half, made similar to entertainer buffs etc...

Though I hope if these do get nerfed, that they just remove say A's... B = As now, C = Bs, D = C's or something like that. If they nerf the buff packs, but don't remove any levels of them I think we will just have wasted schematics (as they will be too close in power/duration for a crafter to even bother making the highest end packs)

I concur with KamaKuro, a duration nerf wouldn't solve the balance issues and would really only increase the general public's appetite for buffs. A +2300 buff is still a +2300 buff, regardless of if it lasts 3.5 hours or 1 hour, and that huge boost to HAM is what a buff nerf would seek to reduce.
