The buff timers dropping at disconnect is probably just a coding issue. The timers are triggered on the client when a buff is applied. Even though the buffs themselves are a server-side object, the timer dispayed to us is client-side (hence the timers are often off by a few seconds.)

*How about clicking on the buff icons and then clicking a drop-down menu to disable buffs that are weak, that you don't want, orthat some newbieDoctor just randomly gave you without asking?

This isn't needed, because a doc with better buffs can just buff over the weak ones. While it may be rude and annoying when someone buffs you with weak buffs without even asking first, it doesn't cause any downtime.

It would be nice for the customers tho for when they get buffs from Docs that simply refuse to use avian in their action buff, and worse yet have an action buff that is 500 higher than the others and last 30-60 min longer...

It amounts to less down time to players, possibly faster credits for Docs - everyone's happy... right?

NOTE: Itshould alsotake somewhere from 1 to 5 minutes to cancel the buffs (which is still better than 20-30 minutes or even 3 hours) so that players don't abuse this in PvP.

Another method of control for PvP could be that the buffs cancel instantly if you use this option, but you cannot bebuffed againfor _____ number of minutes.

I'm open to any ideas to improve the buffing system(s), please post constructively thx

Oh sorry, I guess that applies more to music buffs. As far as 6-stat buffs though, I believe it would still help downtime by enabling players to dump a 30-min. left buff for a brand new 3 hr buff. Sometimes it's hard to find a doc to buff higher than what you originally got.

Also, when I said PC, that's whate I meant. The timer saves on yourPersonal Computer (i.e. - client). Saving the timer on the server could possibly increase server stress... perhaps there should be a file or part of a file in the SWG directory that notes when you recieved a buff, and how long it will last from that point. When the time runs out it would no longer display the timer, and if you logged out while buffs were on, then logged in, the line of code saving the buff paramaters would reset. It would also reset upon recieving new buffs.

The problem with this idea, is that it would be hackable. What's to stop someone from editing that file so that his Janta buffs last for 1000 hours? I'm sure that's why the current timers are stored only to volatile memory.

Well they could just as easily run a hack on the RAM.

Here's the thing though:

I'm sure they have the actual time for the buffs on the server. The difference is there is a seperate timer that is set up locally on the client computer. Since they don't stay in sync, and since the timer doesn't update upon logging in again - it loses your personal timer. Thus, your buffs still last for as long as the buffs were supposed to last, but the timer is lost so you wouldn't be able to see how much longer you have on them.

There was supposed to be a way to remove buffs but it never eventuated and the devs pretend to ignore all posts about it... :/

Buff removal was scrapped for overwriting.

If you can always get a bigger buff (assuming there are no current bugs), then there is no need to get rid of them completely.

Adding removal after they adeed overwriting just seemed like a waste of time on the programmer side probably.
