I think it's kind of like registering a vendor, except you show up as a blip on the planet map (control+v)
But I've only done it once, and haven't tested it, so I'm not sure exactly how it works.

It amazes me how many docs we have on this server, and yet there are none that register on the planetary maps...i make it a point to register myself whenever i wonder into a clinic. but it amazes me that none of my fellow brethren do the same...hrmm
anyway..just wondering what everyone thought about this...

I'm not sure that too many people check the planetary map, but I always /register when in a med center. I have had a few people thank me for doing so, and it really doesn't take much finger muscle to do it. It even automatically unregisters you when you leave the building, for forgetful folks like me

yeah, the problem is that most people don't know how to check for it.
If it's a registered location, you will see a Half Moon or a Sun (Can't remember which) and if it's not, it will be whatever icon isn't used for the registered.
The feature is nice, but the playerbase doesn't know how to use it.

Quoted from the "knowledge base" on SWG web site
"The sun symbol means that at least one player has registered there, and is available or ‘on duty’. The moon symbol means that no one has currently registered at that location."
and now my question is ...I know that a player can register in a player med center but can a player register in a NPC med center (ie. Theed or Cnet)?

Absolutely... I do it all the time. Sadly, with doc's buffing outside the spaceport in cnet, traffic in the npc med center ain't what it used to be, but folks still come in for heals.

So the question I have left is why register if you're a Master Doc? Buffs are better with a med droid due to the extra 10% bonus, and I try to insist that players get their heals (if in an NPC City) from the medics and novice docs in the med ctr so as to not steal their med XP.

I dunno, just seems to me that a busy med center full of MD's, ND's, MM's, and NM's would be more fun. You could, of course, have your droid follow you in for buffs.
Maybe it's better to have the two seperated. But sitting in the med centers can be pretty boring, which goes great with my crafting grind

I do register when I happen to be in there, but its so rare. I honestlky cant remember the last time I was in a hospital. I am usually crafting at my own station, out harvesting what I need, in space, or defending a base somewhere. When I did use to go to hospitals and register I would sit ofrver with nothing happening.

I've been playing since Feb 04 and I don't even know what it does. /shrug (Only been a Doc for a few weeks though, I guess I could be considered an Intern hehe)

It's so people can tell by an icon over the city wether there is a medic/doc in the med center or not. I still do it, and once in a while, am thanked for doing so.
