Thread: An Idea for Docs
I'm a Master Doc and while I think it would be great for me to make money this way, I also fear that it's just another way for folks to play SWG while away from the keyboard. I for one enjoy seeing a Dancer or Musician who actually is present and not afk, so this might cause the same problem with greedy but lazy docs.
However, there are quite a few arguments to be made for this suggestion of yours, like for one...this gives docs a chance to get out there and really play the game without chillin in fron of Coronet starport buffing all day. They can make cash and get things done at the same time. I for one feel that this will just turn into all droids and no Docs anywhere. But hey...who knows for sure. Just my opinion.
Well, the docs would still have to stock the droids depending on how long its stores lasted for buff packs - plus they could put in better buff packs after experimenting. But it would get docs out in groups more often, and they could actually be fighting like you said instead of sitting in front of coronet.
I don't see this as a way for docs to play while not playing - b/c if you take it like that, all merchants, armorsmiths, weaponsmiths, chefs and other professions who sell things on vendors are doing the same thing then. Which of course, they are not.
If I go to an ATM to get money, and the bank is closed - does that mean that the bank is really working when its not? (weird analogy, but holds true to the subject). ![]()
This is an interesting idea and not without merrit. However, just a quick point. Hopefully this game is not all about fighting. Hopefully being a doctor and doing doctor things fits into the game and playing a doctor will be a fun activity that doesn't revolve around running missions or combat. I would love to see the game have a social community in it. A city life that doesn't exist just for combat.
All I can say is I hope not to reduce the game down to one very flat aspect, we do need professions that are different that do different things and activities.
All that said. maybe there is still room for such a think in player cities med centers but no where else. That might still leave a market for doctors in the main cities or on adventure planets that don't have cities. Player city med centers do need something to help them out. I am not sure this is the answer yet but there are a few more thoughts to add to this idea anway.
Take it away from here and lets see where it goes.
I'm a Master Doctor/Teras Kasi Master on Chilastra
I buff the public as well as go out hunting with my mates. All it takes, i feel, is discipline ![]()
If you wanna hunt? don't be so pre-occupied with money. Just tell yourself "Today I will buff 28 people (one buff pack)" I will earn 280k (its 10k on my server) and I will be happy.
Look, there will always be a demand for buffs, whether you buff today, tomorrow, at 9 p.m. or at 2 a.m.
The fun in the game is your choice. No one asked you to stay in Coronet or whatever to buff. I have told many people "I'm done with buffing, and I've only carried one set of buffs" Thats my own way of keepin myself disciplined. The only extra set I bring is to buff my guildmates, and I don't touch them for the general public because they're better buffs.
So I get to hunt, I get to run around, and I also make money.
And I am happy

I believe if the devs do this, and they NEVER will, it will only allow people to play AFK more. This will add ruin to the game. It's bad enough with all of the AFK'ers as it is. Just my two cents.
/wave Heya Pheonix!
Not a bad idea, but I don't think I would care for it much. Buffing is a little more of a social thing for me, I have my fixed clients who seek me out, and almost never mind buffing really quick.
Besides.. we already have our buff bots in Coronet.. ![]()
The people saying it will promote more AFK people or that it won't be good for the Doctors in general obviously aren't active doctors themselves. I've spoken on this with several doctors on Scylla, in my guild and not in my guild, and they were all unanimously for it. Their main pet peeve is that they can't go out and do anything, and they themselves have become virtual buff-bots. That, IMHO, isn't the main purpose of Docs.
With the 2-1B's that Doctors can control, both the Doctor and his patients win.
The Doctor fills it up with buff packs, and can replace them with higher experimented ones or something. I'm not sure about the mechanics or code on how it'd work, but basically a person would interface with it like a Vendor, but instead of "Picking Up" the item they bought, they "Recieve Buff" and it has like a 1-2 minute wait period while they are buffed by the 2-1B. The money they pay goes to the Doctor who owns the bot.
I know I myself would love to have one of these if I were a Doctor. I've mastered Medic before and was going to go up the Doctor line. But when I found out from my Doc friends on Scylla that half the time they spend is buffing people and they get worn out from it, I declined.
Not that I don't mind interacting with people, b/c as a Smuggler, I do that all the time with slicing and selling faction points. But it gets to a point (and trust me on this) that you are sitting there everytime you login doing NOTHING but one skill your profession has for everybody. Sure it makes money, sure you can talk to people, but are you really having fun just sitting there doing the same thing over and over again when you could be out Exploring the Galaxy and having fun in groups with people?
So in the end, a 2-1B buff-bot, if properly executed, could be a helpful tool for the Doctor Profession. It would NOT promote more AFK players. It would NOT promote anything bad of the sort. They even have them in the Dark Forces games (at least the 2nd one and its expansion - you'd walk up to a Med Bot and get a full heal). So I don't see how or why Master Doctors or whatever couldn't own and operate one. It'd be just like a Vendor for them. They could even sell other medical packages on them that they create. ![]()
I mean, come on Phoenix, only smugglers could place and manage Slice Droids too.
This is a bad idea. What the Devs need to do is make it worthwhile for Docs to be in the Med Centers, and at the keyboard. We already have Buff-Bot Macros.
i think they should make droids to run missions and harvest resources so i can still make $$ while i pvp cus i don't have enough pvp time, maybe the devs should create credit harvesters.....how's that sound?
this is not a flame. i think this idea shows thought and creativity AND would make me incredibly rich BUT....
1. you all chose to be docs, nobody forced you, so its not as if you are somehow getting the shaft because you choose to buff...and don't forget, you are RICH (or you're doing something wrong)
2. generally speaking, the doc's place IS in the hospital and not on the battlefield.....that prof is called cambat medic. i know everyone has taken their extra SP and become tkm but that is a bonus. you make insane $$ and you know you kick ass, no need to get greedy, its all about balance
3. there are much better ways to make money than sittin at lag-onet and buffing. there are ways to play swg and remain comfortably wealthy at the same time. i personally haven't charged for a buff in 2-3 months
4. do you all really want everyone runnin around fully buffed, all the time? do you? huh? pvp is already a wreck and does not need this nail in the coffin
answer these question please....
since you made master doc, how many times have you gone to a hospital and healed wounds? have you even used a wound pack?
how long did someone have to tumble for you to get to master doc? (makes me sick)
