A medical droid is necessarry for buffs if you are not in a medical facility, a house, or a campsite.

Yes you get roughly .5 xp per point buffed for xp.

A droid can be really useful to Doctors by giving you a lot of flexibility. You need to get one with a medical module and a chemical crafting module. That way, no matter where you are you can heal wounds (med module) or craft higher level stimpacks and buffs (crafting module). Otherwise you're limited to being in a med center, camp and near a crafting station.

I got a Probot with these two modules, plus it's a combat droid which is also helpful.

A medical droid does three things

1. Allows you to heal anywhere OUTSIDE. Ie, it wont work inside NPC cantinas/buildings. It will work pretty much everywhere else, including Player cantinas/homes.

2. Med droids have a "rating." You need to look for one with a 110 rating. This means with the droid out, you will heal for 110% of your normal abilities, meaning you will get a 10% boost on your buffs.

3. Some droids have a built in F&C Crafting Station inside, allowing you to craft and experiment on meds without having to be near a stationary crafting station.
