Currently medical crafting is highly....over complicated.
I say this specifically because the crafting formulas which must be used to ensure quality schematics are far more important in Medical crafting than they are nearly anywhere else.
Nobodies going to complain if their Guild Hall is made originally from inorganics that had the overall quality of belly button lint. No ones really going to care too much if their furniture is made from the highest quality ores and woods or not. I don't think that too many people are going to complain overmuch if their camp kits aren't top quality.
But, when it comes to adventuring essentials...medical supplies happen to top the list on the list of importance...right behind weaponry. But medical crafting is highly dependant on resource qualities, which are constantly in flux.
Now, to create a top of the line enhance pack, you are dependant not only on the primary resources, avian meat and reactive gas (one of which is very hard to harvest effectively because avians drop very little meat, and most doctors I know can't afford to invest points into Scout or Ranger to get larger harvests, and of course..no one deals in bulk meats.) but you also dependant on every resource that went into every subcomponent in use as well.
Now, given the current resource table system, with its random shifts and changes....what are the chances that at any one given time....even if you could harvest all the resources you needed yourself....that you'd get 800+ OQ/PE/UT/DR resources across the board?
Given the current system..theres not. So doctors get pushed into waiting weeks at a time to gain enough quality resources to turn out quality medicines.
This is ridiculously out of line with most of the other crafting professions in my opinion. Armorsmiths and Weaponsmiths suffer from the same problems..but overall, no other profession in the game has it as bad as doctors do when it comes to crafting.
The difference between a 201 heal Stim B and a 484 heal Stim B is all in the resources used to create them. Using advanced components of course gives better results...but advanced components, due to the stupid specific resource requirement...are hard to make and even when you can make them one of the components (the ACDRM) lags behind due to it being the ONLY factory component that requires a harvested meat resource.
The medical crafting system has more checks and balances than a Congressional Hearing. This is hardly what I'd call fun.
For the last 3 weeks I've scoured my galaxy looking for good resources. Buying what I could...harvesting what I couldn't buy and weedling, pleeding and cajoling all my friends for their help in putting together a good cache of resources with which to design and build my enhances and stims, for mostly using back on them to help them play the game more effectively...and after 3 weeks, I've got a stock of mediocre factory components (due to the quality of the subcomponent resources that I could find) 11k of avian meat that is severely out of balance OQ to PE (907 OQ 584 PE) and theres notbeen a reactive gas in the galaxy over 700 OQ in that entire time.
And whats more...the differences in the levels of enhances are extremely out of balance. Theres no effectiveness to crafting an Enhance A, B, or C because no one finds them even remotely useful compared to an Enhance D. Its not like other games where people will take whatever buff they can get if Mark of Karn isn't availible at the time. The entire medical crafting line is designed to make everything except Enhance D's useless...which I don't see the point of. A doctor should be able to be useful to his friends and faction mates from EnhanceA on but with Enhance A's barely modifying health enough to absorb one more hit...theres no point at all to them.
How are doctors supposed to help their friends/faction mates with this kind of crafting system? Was it designed by an accountant?
Theres a point in time where a game can become as drudgerous and boring as a job you don't like. And I like everything about SWG except the medical crafting system. I wish there weren't so many other priority things that need to be addressed, because this crafting system could sure use a tweak into a more player friendly version.
