Thread: Aggro management
My understanding is that the person that deals or heals the most damage is the one the critters seem to find the most tasty.
In practice, however, it seems like if I heal the tank all the mobs dogpile on me.
I have serious problems with the position of mobs updating on my client when in combat.
I have about 60 ping to my server but still have things happening like:
- Mobs hit me when my client reports them as 32m away, then they warp to my toes.
- Cannot apply point blank CM DoT's to a mob as I am "out of range" when at 0m as theMob is actually somewhere else in the game.

I am a tkm/Ranger, and my role in group combat is to "Tank"...i.e. draw the aggro to me. It sounds like your group needs to focus a little more. Every group member should not be fighting a different creature. If they all concentrate on one at a time, total # of aggro will be less (not necessarily zero). Also, make sure the group has a "tank" or two. If the tanks use the "Taunt" ability, they can keep the aggro focused on them, instead of you. You can then in turn keep them healed, and the cycle continues.
This of course is an idealized version of what really happens out in the wild. Groups get scattered and unfocused...it just happens. I'm hoping that future hot-fixes/patches may fix the problem of not knowing what is attacking us. The attacking creature should have it's ham bar appear, or something.
Anyway, this is just the opinion of a "Tank" who truly appreciates the Doc profession (before AND after CU), and wants to help you make your prof a viable, fun prof to play.
I went out with a group last night where we had a TK acting as the tank. He really knew his stuff and was doing a really good job with the aggro. I learned some smuggler skills and was able to use a root to keep some of the mobs away from me after I healed the tank. Then he was able to draw the aggro back to him. The tank did mention that he felt the taunt ability didn't generate enough aggro.
It was really hard to tell what we were supposed to concentrate on. The /assist command didn't seem to be doing anything useful.
Not being able to tell what everyone is attacking or whothe creatures are attacking is a big problem. It would also be nice if the creatures with melee attacks couldn't hit me from over 64m away. I hope that gets sorted out at some point in the near future.
