Thread: Best Buffs, Min Skills Searching for the balance

Just made Novice Doctor, I'm also a Pistoleer, and an avid Miner.

I do very little crafting, and instead buy all of the thigns I need. I'm very active in the ecomomy, mining, and selling what I mine, then buying what I need. I really enjoy this part of the game far more than crafting itself.

I want to be able to use the best buffs the doctor class offers, and use them at the best possible level. I know I need 0 2 0 0 jus to use any buffs. What I do not know is what is the med use req for enhance packs D/E's and does any other skill modify thier use?

Is a 0 4 4 0 Doc going to buff better than a 0 2 3 0 Doc? More than wiilling to spend the points for 0 4 4 0, but if all I get is revive player, and no increase in buff ability I'll have to think twice about it

Does the Wound Speed Treatment tree do anything other than Cure Posion/Disease, and speed wound reset timers?

Is there any real world advantage to getting Master Doctor other than crafting, and being a slightly more capable 'cleric' class?

I figure you may be able to live without the speed. It's a pain to wait for all six buffs that way, but its manageable. Of course, if you are for advanced planet gaming, you may really want to spring for the Cure Diseases/Poisons.

Assuming you are having a Doc craft them for you, the D-level packs require in the 70s. He could experiment them down to 70 so you could use them at Med Knowledge II. However, they're pretty buggy now with ease of use, so assume you need MK III until that can be verified.

So, a 0-4-3-0 would net you a pretty good Buffing Doctor.

You would (or should, anyway...its anyone's guess if the skill mods are doing their job) be able to get better buffs with a 0-4-4-0 doc than a 0-2-3-0 doc for two reasons, one of which im not sure of offhand because i cant remember numbers well. The wound treatment line grants a direct bonus to your wound healing and buff power (+75 at master wound treatment, which supposedly gives you a 75% increase), and the medicine use skill gives you the ability to use more powerful buffpacks. I'm pretty sure that a D enhance action/health pack is in the low 70's, which would requrie med use 4, but not master...but dont quote me on it. I am certain that you cannot use a D level buffpack at novice doctor level med use skill, however. If my memory serves me right, you cant even use a B level pack till you get up a box or two in the med use branch.

My minimum buff using a buff with a rating of about 500 is about 500, and my absolute max is generally at about 3x the listed value. I have buffed a few times for a little over 1600, but these are rare. The average is prolly about 1000, which is what i would expect given my skill mods and the pack rating (100 wound heal with a pack with base ability of 500 = 1000 pt buff).

There are no E buff packs.

At master doctor, i seem to be on a 15 second wound timer. Never made absolutely certain of it, but thats what it seems to be. Also, it seems that although buffs and wounds are on the same timer, i can buff faster than i can heal wounds. Again, never measured it, but thats how it feels.

Also, Be advised that D level buff packs prolly arent going to be cheap. They require avian meat, reactive gas, and two different factory components. I dont do many bulk sales, but according to my price schedule (based entirely off the resources used, with a small addition for being a high level doc med)a D buff pack would sell for about 1800 credits. Throw a couple advanced parts in there and that price will easily hit 3k. If you plan on buffing a lot, you should definately make friends with a doctor and try to arrange a special repeat customer discount or something.

Lastly, being able to cure disease and poision isnt an ability to be overlooked. With the prevalance of Combat Medics (due largely to how powerful they have been found to be with their huge mind DOTS), this could become a huge problem in PvP, and being able to fix it would at least even the playing field. Although, as it stands a lone CM could decimate even a group with a doctor, as they can AOE poision/disease where the doctor must heal each patient individually. They might not be able to win against a big group, but they would cause some serious trouble.

Is there a difference from 0 2 3 0, and 0 4 3 0 in terms of buff potency?

How big of a difference is it from 0 4 3 0, to 4 4 3 0 in buff time? Is it the usualy 20-25s per wound cure for buffs? what does this get down to 10s? 15s?
