Thread: I have a factory! Umm...So now what?
So...I have a factory and I want to produce one crate of Stim C's for a friend (As a thank you for giving me the factory as a gift). How would I go about doing that? If anything its a good dry run to test out how to make things using a factory.

If you check your factory you will have the following options
Start Manufactoring
Schematic slot
Input hopper
output hopper
You say you already know how to create a schematic right? Make one for the subcomponent you want to produce
Insert scematic in 'Schematics slot'
Insert ingredients in 'input hopper'
Start Manufactoring
When it stops and the factory isnt bugged then you will have the items made in the 'output hopper'
Its actually very very simple, only thing keeping us back is the bugs still surrounding factories
Hrm. I'll have to check my factory again. I put power and maintenance in. But when I looked at it, I only saw Input Hopper and Output Hopper. I didn't see a schematic slot pop up on the radial. So at that point I was assuming I shoved the schematic in the input hopper.
How about producing a full crate. Say I make a full crate of BEC, CRDM and LSs. I still have to remove one item from each crate to make the schematic for the Stim C. So now I have a full crate minus one. How would I then product a full crate of Stim C's being that I'm short one item? Does that mean I need to make a whole second crate of sub components? Isn't that a pain in the rump?
Also how does it know to crate things....Say it was going to make a crate of 50 if I had full crates of sub components. If I have 49 subcomponents after burning 1 to make the schematic, does it make a crate of 49? Or will it just give me 49 individual Stim Cs? How does it know how many it takes before it stuffs them in a crate as opposed to individuals?
Sorry for the questions, I appreciate all the help

Ok, quick tutorial on factories and schematics.
First point: There are different factories for different types of schematics/items. In order to make medicines, you NEED to have a Food and Chemical factory. No other factory type will work.
Second, if you are going to make a schematic that uses components (I.e. C-level and above meds/stims), you *have* to make a crate (or two, or three, depending on how many components the schematic requires, and how many final items you want to create) of each of the components you want to use in the final items. After you make the crates of components, pop the appropriate number of each component out of the crates to make one of the final item types. Then, you have to 'craft' the item in the presence of a crafting station, or a droid with crafting module (this part also applies for the components that you need to make above).
When you go to craft the item, after the 'assemble' step, you will get a popup dialog that allows you to experiment, create a prototype, or create a schematic. First experiment on the item to try to increase the stats (there's no reason to ever 'skip' the experiment step if you are going to be factory producing stuff in bulk). After experimenting on the item, you will be returned to the previous popup, but it will now only display buttons to create a prototype or create a schematic. Select 'create schematic'.
You will be given the option to set the name and number of uses on a schematic. You can actually increase the number of uses beyond 100, but it's not obvious how. The way do it is: Initially the number will be set to 100 by default. Don't try to delete any of the numbers (if you do, the counter automatically gets set to 1 or 0, I don't remember which). Instead, move the cursor to the point immediately after the 1 and before the zero's. Then type the quantity you want. So, for instance, say you want to make 300 Bio-Effect Controllers for your Stim Pack E's, which each require 3 (I think, don't remember off-hand). The number would start as 100. You wouldadd a 3 after the 1, soitnow reads 1300. Then you can delete the leading 1, so that it reads 300. Now just click the "Create Schematic" button or whatever the 'ok' button is labelled (I don't remember lol).
Anyhow, at this point, the schematic should show up in your datapad. You can now go to the factory, and if your factory is the right type, under 'options' you should have "Access Schematic Slot". You use that option to upload the schematic to your factory. Then you dump the required resources and components into the "Input Hopper" and a new option will show up: "Activate Factory". Or it might be "Activate Manufacturing Station" or something like that.
However, it's not quite as simple as that, because sometimes you have to do things like taking out some (or all) of the components from the crates and putting them into the factory one-at-a-time instead of just dropping in the crates of components, and other such irritating problems. Factories seem to require a lot of babysitting to create anything lol. There's plenty of threads on this forum, and the SWG Discussion forum about how to get the factories to work.
Do a search on "Factory Workaround" to find tips on how to get the factory to work, sometimes.
Thank you for the really deep explanation of how that works. That really helps (as does the post above, thank you as well!)
One question though. How do you know what to name the final product. For example I'll see Stim's posted with the heal and medicine use in the description. If you have to build the schematic to product the item, then how do you know what to name the schematic if you don't know how effective the drug is until you USE the schematic to make the item in the first place?
Say I make a Stim C schematic. Fine, I can now product Stim Cs. But until I use the schmetic once, how will I know how effective the drug is? And how do I name all the stims with the heal level unless I make one to know, then rename the schematic or the stims later?
Wow, I make little sense on 4 hours sleep...I can try and explain further if that makes no sense
When you experiment on the item, in the upper left hand corner of the window is a little box that displays the current values for the item, and it auto-updates each time you run an experiment. So, you can know from that what the stats are on your Stim C's. Because when you make items from a schematic, all the items are *exactly* identical. They all have the same stats. So if your stim C, after being experimented, might say: Uses remaining: 27, Heal Health: 305, Heal Action: 305, Required Medicine Use: 33. If you want to put any or all of that info in the item name, you can do that.
Also, I don't remember for sure, but I *think* if you 'examine' a schematic in your datapad, I think the stats on the item get displayed there, but not sure.
You know...For playing the game from day one its amazing the stuff I've missed. I've never seen the stats in the window (How did I miss that), I just learned that my food/chem tools have a quality to them (Didn't know that..Mine were all -7 to -14. They're 11.5 now that I had new ones built), and I just learned last week I can have an distance indicator to waypoints.
How do I miss the obvious stuff? I'm using full advanced in all my medicnes and I'm crafting quality like a madman but I can't figure out how to see my medicine stats. Heh. I'm a tool =)
PS: Thanks for all the help!
