Thread: Best weapon for doc?
i am currently a novice rifleman like my sig says. ive also dabbled in pistol skills.
i want personal protection ( im rebel, fights do happen not that i would start any
). and rifleman wont cut it since that drains mind and so do meds. im looking at pistol or carbine instead. i like the way pistols are small and give a since of being a doc (well it does to me). but carbines have longer range so that would keep me out of the fight more in groups.
what would be best?
just face away from the enemy (lets say a Guf Drolg) and type /medicalforage;:moons a Guf Drolg
If you're only going up one of the Marksman trees and not pursuing an elite combat profession, then go PISTOL.
The reason is this: the majority of XPing groups target the health pool. Range won't matter since your piddly damage isn't going to make a huge difference since you should be concentrating on healing and you'll get someone killed if you're trying to juggle between specials & heals. But a HealthShot1 and a few BodyShot2's can help sometimes, too...especially if you're out soloing.
Carbines aren't too bad, but there's no real reason to use one unless you go Carbineer. But whatever you do, stay way from rifles. Not only do they drain your mind when you use specials, but you also take 2.5 times normal melee damage--meaning 99% of mobs & 10% of players.
Pistol Specialist Pros:
-Take normal damage
-Costs no mind to use
Cons:
Low damage
Carbine Specialist Benefits:
-High damage for "just specialist"
-Medium Armor Piercing weapons
-Blind, Stun, Dizzy(when fullauto is fixed) effects
-Action shot 1(posture change + action dot)
Cons:
-1.5x melee damage
-Some specials may affect mind pool(but very very little)
I have played both Pistol Specialist and Carbine Specialist. Within one day of getting Carbine Specialist I was thinking "**edit** was I doing being Pistol all this time?"
I like the carbine. I'm a novice carbineer and am getting close to master doc - I like the combination. When it comes to being in a party in which you've got to heal folks, I tend to forget about attacking and just heal people. Therefore, how close or far away I am doesn't make any difference. Of course, if the battle is going well, you can always stop healing and get a few powerful pokes in there, as well. ![]()
And for when you're alone, I like being a little further away than I'd be with a pistol.
Ibelieve pistol is best suited for a"fightin' doc" whose primary role to heal group members while making significant contributions to combat. I am (1 box away from) aMaster Doctor and working the Pistoleer tree. I use an FWG5 with 1.5 speed and 41-156 damage and small Mind costs and I deal out my fair share of damage in a fight. I need my combat queuefree for heals, state-cures, /dragincap, rezz and so on andI appreciate how fast the pistol clears out the queue. In a serious fight (one in which ur group has say a 50% chance of getting wiped out) a doctor is fairly hard pressed to get in specials, but the pistol best lets me sneak in what I can.
The pistol is what I want when the fight is just flat out crazy. If you're doing easier stuff or soloing, it may be there is a better weapon for you or that it doesn't matter all that much.
Estevan Maturin MasterDoc(minus1 crafting box)& Pistoleer (Ahazi)
