I keep hearing to go for CM instead of Doctor if I'm going to PVP. What makes CM so much better than Doctor?

Well both professions have their usefulness in PvP. But if you are the type of person who wants to do damage instead of being a support class and healing people then CM is the way to go because doctors have no offensive capability other than whatever profession they have picked up along doc. Now if you were a CM and had a combat profession paired up with it then you'd bea force to be reckon with because of your poisons/diseases which most people can't cure on their own.

Docs take more the passive role in PvP. mainly curing Poisons, Diseases and States and dragging/rezing ppl.
In larger Battles it will become a fulltime Job to keep your group alive.
CMs on the other hand take a more offensive role in Combat due totally different Skills and items.
Poisons and Diseases take the offensive role. Due the AoE Bug youre able to apply them 'through' Walls and effectively control a whole group of enemies.
Ranged stims enable you to heal (and area heal) at ranges up to 64m.
on the downside you lack the ability to cure states and DoTs.
Alternatively you could master Doc and CM and get lvl4 rifles to have a pretty strong PvP template for group battles.

Being a doctor in pvp isn't always such a passive role. In todays war of the combat medic's, being a doctor makes you the most survivable character in a battle, and one that allows you to sluff off combat medic attacks and keep on going.

CM is just the FOTM for PvP
Ive seen some fight fair, but most fight with a lot of lameness. like launching poisons/diseases thru walls or outside the range of any other profession there is, and just kite away so they never ever can be hit by anything and just keep launching thier mind poisons and diseases.
there is no use to PvP agains one of these CM's that utilise the lame tactics above. you cannot win unless youre a CM too and can actually reach them at 90+m

I bit the bullet and dropped TKM from my doctor and now have a master CM/Master Doc/novice entertainer.. the pure support/healing class... and it scares me..
I can't get a mission higher than for gubbars any more so I can't make mission based money without being in a group...
But since I developed my doc character first for buffs for me and my guild and second -as- a support role... it gives me full use of both defensive (have hit heals up to 1.3k a shot, including ranged area heals), preparatory (buffs) and offensive (poisons and diseases)... the only thing I worry about is now I am the -target- in PvP... as soon as I get "made" then they will head right towards me...
Hard to get used to... but as a group support person I think I am going to be well designed..
So to answer your question... it isn't, depending on your style...
