Thread: Lumped response to correspondant issues
I just got done looking at the lumped resopnse to the remaining correspondants, and couldnt help but notice two things. First, Doctors were not mentioned, and i didnt see any doctor issues addressed. The second thing i noticed was more why im writing: a command called "/healmind" was referenced to twice. Is this a combat medic abilitiy that was snuck in while i wasnt paying attention? It doesnt seem that this command exists on the live or test server, but it is kind of odd to have seen it in the dev post.
Zarlor, did they send you anything regarding our issues, specifically? And have you heard anything about this /healmind creature?
I don't know what to make of that post by Holocron. It sounded almost like "oops its the end of the week, better post *something* about those Correspondent lists we have completely ignored to date."
Lots of lip service towards "we know we suck at communication, we know we need to do better" and then THIS? Absurd. Ridiculous. I feel totally dissed.
I think he meant /heldamage. Who knows. Seems obvious to me Holo neither knows nor cares anything much about the Med professions anyway.
I guess we don't raise enough of a stink on the main SWG Discussion board like some other professionsseems to.
As for personal responses, they SHOULDN'T be sending me any personal responses, but I'm pretty sure that somehow my work email ended up as the primary email address they send to. Since I am off on Fridays that leaves 3 days before I will see anything that goes to that mailbox, on Monday morning. So IF there is anything from the Devs that was sent to me, you'll see it Monday Morning when I can repost it. Somehow I seriously doubt they sent me anything. They never do.
You can pretty much ask anyone, I'm a pretty level-headed, patient kinda guy. But I was also raised a southerner with a stong sense of values in courtesy, respect and, most importantly IMHO, Honor. I think that we have been MORE than patient in this matter. While I can accept an apology on the Dev initial promose of once a week falling to the wayside, I am starting to feel more than a little put out by the complete lack of consideration I have seen our profession, other professions and the correspondents in general receiving.
I knew going into this that what I was volunteering for here was a JOB. And it IS a job, but one I gladly do if it will help out the folks in my chosen gaming-professional community. They even said they would allow, in effect 6 issues so I could put in a personal pet peeve, which is FAR more than I would have expected, as I was expecting only to pass along, in as unbiased a manner as I could, what the Doc community, not necessarily what I, wanted to express as their concerns. As a volunteer, however, I was hoping for and expecting at least some courtesy in return by having the Devs hold up their end of the bargain by providing a reasoned and viable response.
To date they have been consistently promising this to us, and consistely falling back on that promise. I will not say that the Devs have been lying to us and I will not say that they have completely broken their promise to us, as these are high ideals in my book and part of the foundation of ones honor and to state that those things were true would be one of the greatest offenses I could offer, and I do not wish to offer that offense. However, I would suggest that IF Holos post were our actual response, then I must consider them to have given me offense by simply ignoring out concerns, or at least not addressing them wiht the manner and consideration I would have expected based upon thier presentation of what a Correspondent would be doing.
I don't expect, or even really want, them to talk to me, I DO expect them to talk to US. RIght here on this forum, which I rell must wonder if they ever even look at. My normally stoic patience is beginning to wear quite thin on this matter and I think my posts lately have probably let more and more of the cynic in me out than I would normally prefer be the case.
This is not a notice of resignation (although if the Devs wish to utilize some other cadidate for doing this work, that would be their perogative) by any means. We have a profession based in our own world on nobility, dignity, humanity and a caring concern for fellow human beings (at least in concept). I think that the players attracted to this profession show thos same qualitiesin great abundancewhen you take a good hard look at the tone and types of posts you see on this forum as compared to so many others. The players in this profession are often considerate, intelligent, thoughtful and generous in their posts, reasoned in their responses and willing to respectfully present thier opinions on matters while rarely dropping to the level of personal attacks or outright obnoxious posting behaviour in attempts to get their point across. And I feel that these kinds of folks not only deserve due consideration, but that they are LONG overdue for it. (We didn't get any luvin' in Beta, either.)
I suggest that we not only need, we more than deserve a proper response.
Yeah, I know I'm normally long winded, but that was pretty long even for me. Sorry folks, I guess we all need a little time to rant sometimes.
You've worked so hard for us, and the only time we've ever had a dev post in here was 'please welcome our Doctor Correspondant.' Man. Maybe it's because we're generally polite, patient people and we didn't have two dozen flaming threads on Discussion, so the devs think they can ignore us.
Yeah, we're not as broken as some of the other classes, but we deserve some time, too. I don't know what to say other than that -- I'm rapidly losing faith in this system, and I hate that.
I'm going to pretend that Holo's /healmind slip means that they're looking at a way for us to heal mind damage, and that makes me feel a little better.
It isn't your fault Z, we know you're doing the best you can and I'd like to say your doing a Great Job as Our Correspondent.
But I wouldn't blame you if you did quit.
Thanks for the encourgament, all. I don't intend to quit, mind you. I'm just a bit frustrated at how close teh Devs haw come to straight out insult not just me, but all of you as well. All of US as Medical Professionals, to inlude Medics and Combat Medics. (At least teh Bio=Engineers did get some response.)
Besides, even if I were to be replaced I have no doubt that there are MANY good folks here who could easily step in and would be happy to take over the task of seeing what they can do to try and see that it least is acknowledged that we are heard. There is little more we can do than that. It makes me feel even sadder for those other correspondents who have been soundly trounced on their own forums by folks who simply have no understanding of what the correspondents have been tasked to do. They seem to expect far too much from them, things the correspondents cannot deliver because our communication mode really is just a one way street, us to the Devs, and not really a correspondence at all.
We can all hope that SOE does do something to rectify the situation soon. But almost broken promises will not get them very far. My fear will be that even with somone hired to more dirctly communicate to us, as players, they may still just be a mouthpiece. With little more capability at ensureing we are heard than to drop a memo on a developer's desk who may just brush us off as not adhearing to their visionof the game or as just a bunch of whiners. It is hard not to have that impression when other developers have ensured that their was a response given on the professions they ahve been working on, while we really have gotten nothing beyond snippets of, effectively, patch notes. At this point ANY kind of dialog, or even monolog for that matter, would be an improvement over the seeming brush off we have gotten so far. (Hehe... at this rate I may be removed from the position if the Devs aren't too happy about my views here, but I only speak of that which I feel, notice and believe to be the precieved truth on the matter. To do any less would be dishonorable.)
So again, thank you for the concern. I guess I just needed to rant, as we all do sometimes. ![]()
At least I know, as I have always known, that the kinds of folks interested in the profession are a great bunvh of folks and worth keeping up the good fight for.
So here's to having a fun game we can all enjoy, and to my greatest hopes that it will only get better.
