I'm not sure wether that means hope that they will be looking into he Doc issues or if they'll just be ignoring us.
Things that make you go "hmmmmm...."
Yes, I saw that thread. I was very suprised that they didn't mention Medics/Doctors at the same time. It is the exact same issue after all.

Yes, as both a musician and a doctor, i have experience on both sides. You might say i'm even poorer than the average player because all of my professions are "the poorest in the game."
In my experience, I've gotten far more tips as a musician than as a doctor. The real irony in this is that being an entertainer doesn't actually use any resources, other than the occasional instrument purchase. So I get tipped better for something that only costs me time (during which i roleplay and have fun, so i can't say it's really a loss)... whereas as a doctor i get tipped less for providing a service which is astronomically more expensive to maintain. By this reasoning, the medic side of this issue seems to be far more important than the entertainer side.
I fall into the category of the absolute poorest elite professions in the game-- my character is male, a musician, and a doctor. Female Dancers on the other hand have been known to get astronomical tips. On the first day that dancers started being able to acquire the fleshwrap and other ultra-skimpy outfits, i was present in the cantina when a dancer wearing such clothing was actually tipped a probot. Later, she was tipped a small house...
skotticus,
Im in the same boat as you, I'm a Doctor/Dancer.
When comparing both professions the problems is that I actually take LOSS on the doctor profession.
When I got to cantina, there are so many entertainers, that I rarely get tipped. Sure very rarely, being a female, "might" persudade someone to tip me, but thats not the case when there are about 10 more dancers wearing skimpy fleshwrap. I wear luxurious gown, and refuse to wear something like fleshwrap. The point is, since nothing, resource wise is used as a dancer, even those rare tips I get is profit.
Now in a medical center as a doctor, I get tipped OFTEN. But the only reason that this happens in my experience, is because there is a much better doctor/patient ratio when comparing entertainers/customers ratio. However, the tips from patients are very low and it rarely covers the cost of running/crafting the meds itself. The only time I make a good money is when, a group "hires" me to go as a healer in a group with a fixed pay. But that only happened once in my whole SWG life. Or when some rich people without patience bust in the med center and yell " xxxxc for whoever heals me now!" Though if you are already healing someone, you lose the turn to another med/doctor, which happens quite often when this rare situation arises.
Solution? I have no clue how to help med/doc, there was some fundamental developmet problems when they created the med/doc profession, an oversight, and now it would need a complete changeover in the profession to fix this problem.
my 2c
As another Doctor/Dancer combination I have found that I receive far more money as a doctor than as a dancer. I think over the whole time I spent attaining dancer, I have received - at max -5K overall total - though I have also received some small pieces of jewelry. I'm another "poor" player, as mentioned above, since I never charge for my services and sometimes give medicine away. Before the mission "nerf" I was able to acquire a small amount of funds doing missions south of Coronet for 1.5K a piece - so 3K a trip, taking about 10 - 15 minutes or so. As also mentioned above, when dancing I refuse to wear anything like Flesh wrap - my character's shortest outfit is a short-sleeve shirt & shorts.I was given those early into playing. You're more likely to get tipped as a dancer, I think, if you know "exotic". I have seen cantinas where all the guys will gather around the dancer over in a corner doing exotic and will pretty much ignore all of the others - even those more scantily clad. I can't say so personally, since my character's dancing isn't that high up on the tier, yet.
It's just going to be that way.. your best bet is to make some friends with some strong players and go out and support them in missions. =T
Yes, i tried to imply in my post that female dancers had to go with the skimpy look in order to get those tips. But you girls have the option, at least. I admire your refusal to cater to the lusting masses. Sex sells, and in this case the female dancers wearing fleshwrap and the like and dancing the exotic dances definitely get the best tips.
I had thought i conveyed that, but reading back over my post i acknowledge that i seem to be making a broad generalization that "all female dancers get the most tips in the entertainer profession."
This isn't true. The most scantily clad female dancers get those massive tips. As the excitement over the fleshwrap types of clothing has waned, i'm sure even those dancers who do wear as little as possible have seen a drop in tip amounts.
Another point for the God of Lust, i guess.
It isn't the same issue at all, really.
Medics/Docs/CMs have to spent creds in order to make the consumables they use to ply their trade. Entertainers don't.
Medics/Docs/CMs DO have a role in combat, Entertainers don't.
Medics/Docs/CMs get tipped LESS(in my experience) then Entertainers.
Yet, of course, the Devs decide to focus on getting the Entertainers a way of earning credits. They gave them their own mission terminals. They DON'T have to expend credits on resources to ply THEIR trade. They Have an overhead which is so low as to be almost laughable when compared to our professions...
And yet, again,t he Devs decide to focus on getting THEM payment? What the hell is that about?
Well, from personal experience, i have to say that the entertainer missions really suck right now. Basically you get a waypoint to a hotel or cantina and you're supposed to play for a certain amount of exp before you get your payoff. If it sends you to a hotel, you have to play alone, and that can take up to 20 minutes to get your 600c reward. If it sends you to a cantina, you have the choice of grouping with the entertainer group there (and splitting the reward with them) or playing on your own.
So missions really isn't an excuse for saying that they're covered on that base. Still, the developers do seem to have a skewed idea of what to prioritize here.
Fact still remains that they have that avenue of income...as broken as it may be.
We don't have even that.
