Thread: Doctor Vendors

I wonder if I am the only one out there that would like to have a vendor to sell meds but doesn't have the skill points available to get Business III. Is there a way where a Doctor can set up his own vendor without having the money collected from it pass through another persons bank account?

If not, then somewhere in the medical trees, Doctors and maybe even Combat Medics should be given the ability to create a pharmacy. Since we have to get Master Medic to get Master Doctor, it leaves few points for anything else. If you want to add an elite combat skill to your master Doctor, you can pretty much forget about getting artisan. Artisans obviously don't have this problem.

Am I asking for too much? This could help us all resolve the money issues.

Just sell them to a person who is willing to pay you a set amount for each product. Sure, they resell it, but at least you get paid and you don't have to go through their bank. Just offer it up to thier vendor. When they click okay, you get the money. They turn around and sell it again for maybe 50 more credits but hey, that is better than nothing for them and you don't have to waste your precious skill points on merchant.

I tried to start a distribution buisness for meds only on Bria and was going to buy stims from Docs for say, 1200 credits, then turn around and sell it for 1250. But no...no one wants to do that to save themselves the business end of the deal so they take up merchant. Those same people complain they have to take Business III to get a vendor when I give them an option not to. I don't get it.

Right now I use the bazaar to sell my stims, but I'm still saving up for a factory.

Once I get the factory, I intend on using one of my PA mates who is a mechant to sell crates of stims for me. I'll still probably sell some on the bazaar.

I'm the one on my team who is currently pursuing the artisan skills to set up a vendor, etc. however, with the new "tax" that is forthcoming on vendors, I'm not sure how that will affect my team's plans. As much as doctors work together in med ctrs, I'm amazed that there are no organized doctors' pharmacy/med vendors out there, at least on my server.

So, if I am reading you all correctly, there is no way, short of becoming an artisan, to have your own vendor for medical supplies? The problem I see with using other people's vendors is the hassle.

If I sell something on another person's vendor, don't we both have to keep track of what I sold, and how much he owes me? What if he isn't online at the time I need the money? What if he doesn't realize the money in his account is mine? What if he decides to scam me and take either the meds or the money? It sounds likea big pain in the *ss. It's not that I don't trust people, I just don't want the hassle of it all.

Is there a way a vendor owner could redirect the money that comes from a vendor to another player's bank account? Maybe the game should allow Artisans to sell vendors to non-artisans?

Well, normally you jsut sell your product directly to the vendor. I'm not positive but I thihk it is possible for their Vendor to forward emails to you with the standard info that the vendor normally responds with so you can know who bought the final product. There' really nothing for you to keep track of. You're the supplier, the Merchant with the Vendor is the Middleman (and they can Name a merchant with your name, if that is part of your supply deal) an then the customer. You don't get paid per stim the customer buys, you get paid for the bulk order directly from the merchant. They are taking the risk of product that does not sell.

That's a large part of what the merchant class is all about. I personally think that giving that capability to non-Artisans would be seriously undercutting them. But the idea does have some merit, considering that Doctor's gerneally do not make money from Healing, but from selling. A somewhat forced situation but far less so, IMHO, than the surveying problem.

You're making it sound more difficult than it is. Set up an arrangement with a merchant type. Go to his vendor, click on "offer an item" and put your stimpack on there for a price you think is fair. This puts the item on a list that only the merchant owning the vendor can see, and removes it from your inventory. The merchant, assuming he agrees with your price, visits his vendor and buys the stimpack, at which point you get the money (if he doesn't like the item he can reject it and you can pick it up later from the vendor). Then he can offer the item for sale, probably at a price with a % markup from what you sold it to him at.

By the way, this vendor can exist in the merchant's house or even in your house. If it's in your house, the merchant still has to visit the vendor to manage sales, but it appears to all like it's YOUR vendor. (the only prob with this arrangement currently being there's a bug where the owner of the house gets the merchant experience, not the owner of the vendor).

There is a whole merchant class so that this kind of thing is possible. Because there areperfectly good vendors in the artisan line and few perks for being a master merchant, most artisans have their own vendor, and people don't realize you can use other player's vendors like I've described. But I expect that as the merchant line firms out there should be more arrangements like what I'm describing in place, where a master merchant will have a selection of items from many artisans and medics for sale in a central place.

Doctors and combat medics don't deserve their own special vendor any more than the other crafting classes. It would just demean the merchant class, which is already semi-pointless aside from vendors(let us not even speak of the incoming npc vendor maintenance formula).

Originally, I set up an agreement with a merchant so I could sell medicine, but it was a royal pain, because it was up to him whether or not he'd buy what I offered. I had crates of stim b's sitting on his vendor for days waiting for him to buy and resell.

If you can find a merchant who's in his shop a lot, though, you'll probably do just fine working with him/her. Your best bet, if you don't want your own vendor, is to make an arrangement with a successful store owner who already has a lot of traffic. Extra supplies just mean his vendor will be that much more popular(as long as they're good supplies ). Or supply a large PA.

Zandra - I didn't respond to your earlier thread on starting up a distribution biz because of the current factory problems. Once I get my factories working well again (i.e. I can make more than 100 items a day without constant baby-sitting), I'll be interested in selling crates of stims off of your vendor.
