TKA is good, or Pistoleer is good, just do whatever you think works best for you.

Pistoleer is a very good match for Doctor because pistols fire so fast that our heals do not get slowed down in the combat queue. You will be very close to the mobs since you need to be within 7 meters of the tank. So, the Pistoleer's defensive skills will be very valuable .... when they start to work (they're currently bugged/turned-off). Pistolwhip is as a very good skill for a doctor. I would allow you to knock a mob down that gets too close to you so you can run away a bit to get range on it again. Also, pistols are much more accurate at short ranges than at long ranges. Which again fits in with the idea that a doctor will be in close to mobs due to healing range issues.

Carbineer can also be a good choice. They will fire almost as fast a pistol at higher skill levels. Plus, they have several neat state-inducing attacks that are useful for crowd control. However, they take more damage from melee attacks than a pistol user will.

Rifle is generally not a good choice for a doctor because of two issues. The first is that rifles are slow, which will slow your heals down. The second is that many of the rifleman's special attacks are geared toward being prone, and you can't heal at all when you're prone. Plus, they take considerably more damage than from melee attacks than either pistols or carbines.

TKA is also a good option. It has many of the same advantages as Pistoleer. I.E. fast attacks and good defensive abilities. I think the same goes for Fencer. I'm not sure how well the 2-handed swordsman or Pikeman would mix with Doctor as those weapons tend to be slower, much like the rifle.

well a 2handed heavy swordsmen rocks the house! I loooooove my char with those skills. But if anyone has a gun I am outa luck.

So you have to ask yourself, will you be doing PvP? Cause then brawling is not a smart way to go, if you mainly hunt animals then brawler is from what i can tell stronger then a shoort.. like boars for instance. I can kill like 6 at once when they aggro me all at the same time. Can't do that with a gun!

I chose pistol because I need to stay close to the "tank" (usually a CH pet) during battle for heals, but far enough away so I don't get aggro. Since the ideal range for pistol is usually 15m, and I usually stand about 8-10M from the MoB, its not too bad.

I could say that I chose 2-handed sword to complement doctor, but really it was the other way around. I liked the close quarter combat and AoE attacks that swordsman gets, as well as the immense damage they deal out. And in trying to find a good match for that profesion I settled on Doctor.

With the stat buffs, I can make myself into a 2k+ HAM tank with 1k+ secondary attributes. This reduces the HAM costs of dealing out the highly damaging 2hHit3 and 2hArea3 specials. With lower HAM costs and higher HAM, I can take on many NPCs at once, even if they are shooting at me. Tusken Raiders for instance are no match for a master swordsman/doctor, I can easily take on 4 at once, even if they split up.

The downside is, due to lag (or some other similar game mechanics issue), it is very difficult to get in range to hit a kiting psitoleer or carbineer. So PVP vs. these guys is very tough. However with the 75% reduction in damage, if the DEVs could fix the range issues of swordsman, a doc/swordsman would be a real PVP force to be reckoned with.

Yeah the ham cost to my mind are a killer if I am in a group i cant do to many special attacks with my rifle. I really didnt want to have to do this but i am going to have unlearn my rifle skills under rifleman and that sucks. I have spent like 700k worth of rifle exp and another 40k of combat exp. I am not going to go into melee combat I am either going to do pistols or carbines. I guess I should go check out there forums to see what I should do unless you guys can give me more detail into there skills and stuff i would need to know.

From the Doctor point of view, TKA is the best.

You get:
Meditate
Force of Will
Unarmed Toughness
Decent Defensive Mods

That's 2 awesome recovery abilities, and the capacity to absorb/avoid far more damage than if you were any other profession.
