Thread: More grouping trouble
Well I took the advice someone gave me and hung out on Dantooine rather than Lok and have been pretty successful at getting groups. Problem is now is problem 2 I had with grouping as a doc is much worse.
And what is problem #2?
Every group I get into stinks.
This is pretty much how they always go:
P1 tells you, "Want to group up and do some hunting?"
"sure"
We wait 15 minutes for his other friend to show up and go LD. We wait 10 minutes more (at least I have enough stims crafted to last days now) then head off without friend.
We start killing, he knows some tough mobs he can single pull. (Cool this guy knows what he's doing). He pulls, I assist. Mob is half dead, I have healed P1 once. P1 again drops to half (I heal early till I get to know the area), I hit heal, P1 starts running around, runs out of heal range, P1 dies. I run back to star port.
This how it always goes more or less, what am i doing wrong?
If you are a combat medic and have ranged healing, I'm not sure. If you're not a combat medic but going more along the lines of Doctor. Well we're not really designed for such a combat situation, thats why there is the Combat Medic, which I suggest you go with if you're interested in helping hunting parties.
I think for medics and doctors our range is like 6 meters. For combat medics I think its twice that, and it might also depend upon your skills. But I'm a doctor and not a combat medic so I'm not sure the specifics for that profession.
It's all about teaching your group. They need to know that you are ther to heal them. If they can stand still, perfect. If they think they should run because their HAMs are getting low, tell them to stop looking at their HAMs. Watching those is YOUR job, not theirs. My groups never watch their HAMs, they only look for word from me on when to back out because their mind is getting too low.
If they HAVE to run (or, effectively, move) in order to perform certain tactics, such as to see if their stun or position change special actually stopped a beastie and to get out of melee range or to get it closer to pets to get it to agro on the pets, fine. Just make sure they know they need to STOP every now and then when they are on the run. Even just for a moment. That way if you are on follow and peaced out and spamming that heal key, then as soon as they stop (assuming your run rates are the same) you shuld be able to close the gape enough that a heal will get off.
The just have to learn how to avoid moving around too much or spreading out too far for you to get to them to heal them as they need it.
1) Most people use creatures to tank the kind of creatures you find on the advanced planets. Thats why half the player base has some CH skill. Make sure your group has 1 high level CH or 3+ low level CH's.
2) If they have a stupid name, don't group with them. Nine times out of ten stupid names = stupid players. Or really annoying ones. Sometimes you might be in a decent group, with one or two really bad or annoying players in it. I normally just stop healing them. The rest of the group never seems to mind this...
3) If he's standing there in his jockey shorts holding a tusken rifle, don't group with him.
4) Dantooine is an advanced planet for advanced players. Advanced player know to run towards and around the medic, not away from him. So if someone runs away from you, this is a good sign you don't want to group with him. Unless he is deliberately luring the monster away from you so that you can rez him afterward. A smuggler feigning death with a nightsister whacking him 2 feet away from you is not a pretty sight. How to ditch and avoid in the future crappy people/groups is a whole different topic, hehe.
5) Shoot and kill every baby creature you see. Thats actually a joke, but I'm really tempted sometimes. Once you've grouped with CH's a few times, you'll know what I mean ![]()
Definately explain what you can and can't do. Make sure they know your stim range, and know that running away will get them dead twice as quick, unless you are a CM, but that really is almost a seperate discussion in itself.
That said, it is a crapshoot most times. Just keep trying new groups, sooner or later you're bound to find a good one.
Once you do that there is some breaking in period. After they realize that you can heal half a HAM bar with no problems, they won't be yelling for heals all the time, for example.
It can and does take a while sometimes, it took me forever to finddecent groups that I liked. It just takes time and patience.

Excellent advice everyone.
Tell them your abilities. If they dont listen, let them die then rez them. Use drag alot! ![]()
