Thread: Advanced Components worth it?
I am a master medic who will make novice doctor tonight (we hope). So far I have not attempted to procure the specialized ingrediants for advancedcomponents, with the well known money issues I've barely been able to afford my chemical, metal, and water harvesters (and one wind catcher). I just acquired a house and factory. I'm on Talus, so besides the money issue, actually getting to Tantooine, Lok, etc is a pain in the butt.
My question is ... is it really worth the hassle/travel expense/cost to acquire anduse advanced components? I realize that a simple answer may be that packs that I cannot make yet require advanced components (and i havent seen the blueprints yet), at which point I will bear down and grind some money missions out. Thoughts?

I find advanced components extremely effective and worth the effort. For my personal stuff I use all the advanced components that I can and at least one or two for the stuff that I sell.
If you don't want to go after all the advanced components at first (and I admit this can bea rather daunting task), I'd suggest picking one or two that you would like to get and go for that. Since you are on Talus, you can easily access Talusian water. So why not try to make some advanced liquid suspensions.
Advanced Components helped a lot with my med exp grind. Just using Advanced Solid Delivery Shells I could get a max base wound heal of 128 with woundpack b'sif I remember correctly, which meant that I could get some good heals (and with the Expert Wound Treatment I was getting a lot of 200+ wound heals). You can then use the lower-quality ones for the other stat packs (hey, 80-90 random stat wounds healed is enough most of the time). Had I been able to get some higher quantities I could have had a great market selling these to hunters that only have enough points to get novice medic.
Also, with Advanced CRDM's (which were exremely expensive as Class 4 petrochem was almost non-exisistent save one person charging 30 cr per unit, and you need 18 for each one, or 540cr per each one just for the petrochem), I could get 32 uses out of one medpack b, which in combination is better than some c's I've seen, without the higher med use.
However, there is a huge downside to this.... it costs a lot, and none of your patients appreciate the fact that you have a lot higher components than a lot of Doctors/Medics. My tips while using these varied from a lot of nothing tips or maybe 20cr tips to as much as a 6kand two5k tips. Some people were amazed by the heals, at least.
ok sounds like it is. Just got an email telling me a good place to harvest Lokian wheat. now getting there ...
Thanks for the imput
IMO, it all depends on what you're trying to manufacture. Allow me to give you a few examples:
StimEs and Ds - the way I use these stimpacks I really have no need of improving their effectivness; hence, using standard components is sufficient.
StimBs (for sale and friends) - here is where advanced components shine. Your budds will be impressed with your work.
EnhanceDs - that is a grey area for me. I haven't been able to produce any amazing enhance packs with advanced components. Could be due to the fact that my materials may not be up to par. My best avain meat is in 800s and gas in the 700s.

Very good points that I would have to agree with, except I do use advanced components in my enhance packs and will on occassion for a D. I don't make many Es but I have a stack of highly modified Es for those OMG He's gonna die type situations.
One odd thing, I've had the effectiveness of my revive packs go *down* as a result of using advanced components before. I need to experiment more to see ifI am really seeing what I think I am seeing, but I made three revive packs (1 without adv comps and 2 with) and it seemed to bear true.
Oh yea they are worth it!!! I use 1000 oq, 780 pe for my regular components and than i can go use 18 oq, 560 pe for my adv components and my adv components will still come out 4x higher
my bio effect controler went from 18 to 42
my chemical release mech went from 9 to over 60
my liquid dispensor went from 18ish to over 40 as well
is it worth it? u tell me ![]()
I keep it balanced. I use Advanced Components in Enhance Packs because those have some nice tangible benefits. For personal stock, I don't find it useful enough to put into Stim-Cs, given my healing ability.
For item sales, I've stuck with traditional components so far. A lot of the other Docs are offering Advanced Stims with the appropriate extra cost and I'm finding the niche of well experimented vanilla stims to be a nice fit for me. However, when I have enough Avian meat in stock, I plan on offering Enhance packs only using Adv components.
If you have enough upfront capital to support it, it isn't very expensive to get most of the advanced components yourself (on the order of 1c to 1.5c per unit). Still, that's a lot more than you would pay for normal resources.
The one advanced pack that really helps are the Adv. BECs. The additional charges are something you can always get benefits from.
