Thread: Far-Fetched Meat Idea Comments?

Greetings,

As a Master Doctor I find myself using a lot of meat, and coming up short of skill points to be able to supply myself with a decent amount. As many others have pointed out, Armorsmiths are often more willing and able to pay for hides, leaving few scout-types out there to harvest meat for the medical professionals. This leaves me to call into question the basic idea that harvesting should be the only form of gathering meat, bones, and hides: after all, is sampling the only way to earn the rest of the resources?

Two new types of buildings could be created (in personal, medium, and large sizes): Derry Farms and Ranches. These would be like the harvesters everyone knows and loves, but with a bit of a twist: rather than having the resources pulled “from the ground,” Bio-Engineers would supply you with the hapless critters to be “processed.” Here’s how it could work:

1) Buy your deed from a local Architect (who could experiment on them just like any other harvester, so find yourself someone skilled!) and place your spiffy new structure.
2) The buildingis usedsimilar to a factory: deposit money and power, set the name as you like, and then get ready to feed your new farm.
3) Rather than a “Schematic Slot,” you have a “Mode Options,” which allows you to select what you would like processed from the critters: [meat, hides, bones] from a Ranch or [milk, eggs] from a Derry Farm.
4) Into the Input hopper goes your bio-engineered creatures, which would have the same yield of the resources as their wild cousins, multiplied by5 (a Kaddu which normally nets you around 8 units of meat would give40 in a ranch).
5) Sometime later, as the factory works, your output hopper will have yummy stacks of appropriate resources.

Pros and Cons:
+ A steady, reliable sources of direly needed recourses is finally available to the many trades who need themwithout competing against one another for what needs harvesting.
+ Bio-Engineers have a renewable market to sell their wears to, and assuming the quality of the critters related to the yield of resources, experimentation would become important.
+ Products that the general populace needs (armor, medications) that rely on harvested resources are no longer hampered by outrageous prices the makers have to pay for hand-harvesting. Everyone benefits.
- Scouts and Rangers lose their corner on the meat market, which many saw as a unique and important ability of those classes.
Note: Harvesting critters that you kill (provided you have the Hunting lines of skill) should still be faster than the farms can chuck out meat - just like someone who takes the time to sample for hours will earn more in that time than even the fastest of harvesters.

Thats not so far fetched!!!

I though you were gonna say let doctor harvest meat from player corpse or something. Avian meat from combat professioon and Herbivor meat from non-combat profession.

Heck everytime we heal wound shouldn't there be like chunk of meat left over? why waste it? it's good meat!!!

Nice idea, and in the name of balance and fairness to our beloved rangers/Scouts......


The BE takes a sample of meat (harvested) say 100 units per "farm" pet and some DNA and craftsthe "farm" pet. with Master BE you have a chance at say 90% of of the stats of the meat. Have a second craftable stat for 100's (or even k's?) os units of meat available for harvest. Would have to run the cr per unit of "farmed" meat to see if this would be profit prohibiting.


This involves the scout/ranger as you still need meat to start. Gives the BE and Arch something else to make. And the BE gets repeat business on a monthly (or something like that) basis. Adds another maintanance item to the list (money sink out-of-the-game). Involves 3 professions!


And would also shrink the database some. How you ask? Well I currently have 2 meat bags FILLED with 90 of this and 250 of that herbavore meat just waiting for anotherfew unitsto come up to be worth making a run of aCRDMs. And would rob me of 1 lot for each "factory" farm I want to place. Eliminating a house I would think for me, that is full of... you guessed it... misc meats. It is even called "Cold Storage 1 - Meat locker" or something like that.


Win win win I think

Switch to fruits and veggies for organics, which have OQ and PE like meat,and often there is high quality available at least on Ahazi server. Then u only need avian meat and herbivore meat for enhance packs and ACRDM. You should be able to afford 15-20cpu for a ranger or someone with harvest skills to gather these for you. This is a fair price actually for the time required to harvest these. It's an interesting suggestion but would seem to solve a non-problem, and would eliminate the whole point of scouts/rangers. Were you aware of the fruits/veggies or do u really need mega-quantities of avian/herbivore meat that you can't afford to have gathered?

I do, I am using Endorian Beans I think right now, have 95K of wild corn in the 800+ PE OQ. The problem is Herbavore meat, and I would pay 10 - 15 cr per unit NO problem even might go up to 20, but it needs to be in 1680 sized lots to make a run of 1000. All but 1 ranger I have seen on the boardsare noteven willing to do this (for the most part)and he is on another server.


But the problem is we make countless requests on server forum, unanswered. We post in Ranger forum, unanswered. I would LOVE TO include the Rangers, would absolutely love it and scrap this idea. The problem is most all of the rangers I have talked to are totaly and completely uninterested in "working" for someone.


I guess my main point is, Rangers (as a generalization) are not as a class filling this need to Doctors (also a generalization) so what would they loose???? Make the "process" cost 10cr per unit for (at absolute best in my plan) 90% of the quality, more like 70-80%, of the "live" meat. I do not see where Rangers would loose out.
