Im am considering creating a Doctor. If i do which is the best : Ranged Weapons or Melee Weapons? Also, in which ever category is best, which weapon is better for a doctor (e.i. Ranged Weapons - Pistol, Carbine, or Rifle)?

For me, that choice was based on wanting to have some CM. If you don't want any CM abilities, then you can go either way, but if you do want to have a bit of CM, ranged is the way to go.

Currently I would say melee since it's quite comfortable to have CoB to fall back on if you get aggro.

Ultimately my template is supposed to be foremost a healer with Doc and Cm skills and then some crowd control from pistoleer.

I have Rifleman with Doc, suits me, but if you're going to be in close healing group members the better melee defence of one of the melee profs may be better.

Solo: Ranged saves on armour damage if you don't like TKA

Group: TKA lets you tank and saves on armour costs

I have a Doc/TKM and thoroughly enjoy mixing it up with L82 missions and tanking in wookworld...

It all about the skill points and your style of play.

I know a few folks that have made melee toons and have added 4000 doc to them. They can tank most any Jedi I have seen. Some of the melee weapons are rather nice and as mentioned before the TK CoB is very nice (+500 for 45 sec I believe). Also the melee def from the other prof are very good. Some weapons in melee are well over 1k in damage. With the doc healing line they can take a ton of damage.

Doc also goes well with melee because the heals need to be in close range.

Another dable option is4440 medic, 4004 doc. You get various heal types as well as buffs.

If your ranged and are looking just to pick up some healing then I would go with 4000 CM as it is cheap on skill points. Though not as good as a healer as 4000 doc.

As a general rule of thumb:

Doc + Melee

CM + Ranged

Master doc and pistols look like a good combo. The "freeze" shot can root a victim in place so you are free to heal your team at will and knockdown is a help. Pistols also put out a decent amount of damage. Carbine might be a good choice too. TKM allows you to get into the fight while reducing the amount of damage, but it doesn't do enough damage IMO.

The freeze on a pistol is definitely useful for stopping something that is hitting you and then running like a sissy in the other direction. My template is master doc/master pistol/4000 CM, which is very much a support template. I don't like to solo, I don't want to solo. If you want to solo, don't pick pistols. Whenever something hits me at all, I just demand that the tanks remove it from my presence immediately.

It's funny because I was SF one day, just bumming along in my two pieces of lousy converted armor (still haven't gotten around to getting a nice full set of new armor) and our group got ganked by a jedi and his little friends (who are now on my /addignore list for being extremely poor winners). Obviously, without a jedi in our group, we were toasted... I issued heals as quickly as I could, and managed to keep a bunch of group members alive until I ended up crashing to desktop, but until that point, I hadn't taken any damage.

Silly noobs, take out the healer first.

I am TKM / MD...this template is amazing, I have so mmuch high defence, that when lots of things agro, i just have to concentrate on healing the rest of the group while 5 things hit me, you need bacta infusion with this though, lol

I really think those people with signatures that look like part of the post are really annoying, thats why I made this one.

I'm about to experiment a little with Master Fencer, TKM and Doc 4xxx.

New fencer weapons deal out good damage

TKM = inate armour = Can look cool fighting

Doc for the good heals.

I like the Mcarb/Mdoc route. It allows me some crowd cotrol when needed. Ialsoget a little more power than pistol and more speed than rifle. I can tank a bit as well. With a4 man skirmish line in front of me I can easily heal without getting anyaggro. I tend to use lower power needlers when all I am doing is healing for xp. I use laser and e11 mk2 for mixing it up for serious damage and solo stuff.

that's really up to your playstyle. Do you like to be able to add DD and heal from a distance? or at the front of things? =)
