I've been playing this game for about 3 months now and I've picked up and dropped a lot of different proffession. Med/Doc is the first place i've actually stopped to work on. All of this damn crafting XP and you have to wonder - do I even need master doc to administer decent Buffs? If it's wound treatment that makes buffs better, I have +55 from my clothes. Do I need the crafting tree?

And what exactly plays a part in giving buffs anyway? What are the stats of a Master Surgeon giving a good buff? Thanks

Master doctor give you an extra +10 to your medical use, making it at +100. The decent buffpacks are usually over +90 med use. Then most of the time people will only stand at your line if you have Master Doctor tag. If not, then you would have to make your price way low so that you don't make any profit. An extra word of advice would be to not use Havla. You are just spending more of your own funds. You get flamed if you raise the price any. People would rather wait in line for an extra 45 minutes than pay an extra 5k and get buffed in five seconds. God forbid we try to make a profit.

Havla is a chef food, a rather expensive food. I forgot what exactly the bonus is, but it allows you to apply all of the buffs in under five seconds. As soon as you click the player is buffed.

Havla reduces delay in between medical skills. This allows a Doctor to buff with a much minimised delay, heal wounds with a much minimised delay, and for the CM - to some degree, reduce poison throwing time by some degree.

Thanks a lot Houdani, your post helped a lot. Although I have one question...

The maximum benefit you can get from your clothes is +25. Anything over +25 is ignored when calculating the bonus to your buff/heals. So from that standpoint, an MDoc will have a 25 point advantage over a non Master, due to the skill mod granted in the Master box.

So does this mean +wound heal doesn't stack? For instance, I'm wearing a +15 pair of pants, +25 shirt and +15 over coat. This doesn't add up to 55? Or does it only add up when you get master doc? And for that matter, how do you reach a total of 125?

Thanks for sticking with the noob questions... I actually have 4-4-3-4 right now so i'll end up getting master doc in about and hour or so .

The cap on what CLOTHES give you, the benefit cap, is 25, then bivoli adds another 25

Theclothes DO stack, but only up to +25 -- anything above 25 is ignored. So, if you took off your shirt and only wore your pants and overcoat, you would have 15+15 = 30, but only the first 25 points matter -- the extra 5 points are ignored. If you put your shirt back on, you would have 15+15+25 = 55, but again ONLY the first 25 points matter -- theextra 30 points are ignored.

As for just the basic wound treatment skill (not including clothes or food), the best a non-MDoc can get is a 75 rating. The skill box for MDoc gives an additional 25 skillmod, for a total of 100 points (at master Doc).

Now, when you add clothes on top ofthe basic skills ... a non-MDoc will have 75+25 = 100, while a MDoc willhave 100+25 = 125.

To administer decent buffs, you absolutely do not need to be a MDoc. You can easily buff up to 2000 without being a MDoc, which ismore than enough of a buff for yourself or friends. However, if you want to be a starport buffer, then most folks would rather stand in a MDoc's line.

The maximum benefit you can get from your clothes is +25. Anything over +25 is ignored when calculating the bonus to your buff/heals. So from that standpoint, an MDoc will have a 25 point advantage over a non Master, due to the skill mod granted in the Master box.

Do I need the crafting tree?

You don't need the crafting tree if you're willing to buy your own buffs. Or you could master the profession, make a bunch of schematics, then drop the crafting line and save a bunch of skill points.

And what exactly plays a part in giving buffs anyway?

Buffs are affected byyour wound treatment skill, clothes, food mods (bivoli tempari), and location.

To get the maximum wound treatment skill, you need to be a MDoc (+100). If you're not a MDoc, the best you can do is +75.

Clothes can net you an additional +25 (for a total of +125 for MDocs, or +100 for non-MDocs).

You can also eat some Bivoli Tempari whichcan temporarilygive you up to +25 MORE points on top of the clothes.

Finally, the location you are in will modify how good you can heal/buff. The pecking order here is Camps, Med Centers, then Hospitals, and finally a good droid. Without going into the details, you will want to buy a droid with a level 6 med module installed. This will give you a 110 med rating (which equals a 10% boost to your heals/buff). Actually, faction bases are supposed to give the best location bonus (125) but they have never worked. I'm also not sure what location rating the player hospitals have, but I'm pretty sure it's 100, so the droid is still better.

What are the stats of a Master Surgeon giving a good buff?

As a MDoc, I can buff for over 2500 points (with clothes, bivoli, droid mods). As a non MDoc, the value of that buff would likely drop to around 2100, which is still very good.

Here's a link to a buff calculator, where you can plug in numbers for your buffs + mods to see what the final value of your buff will be.

Good luck to you,

H.
